Cankarjev dom is the heart of creative congresses and events in Slovenia. Creativity is the essence of our work and for almost 40 years we have been a legendary institution and a synonym for cultural and humanistic activities and the meetings industry in Slovenia. Every year, more than 2500 events reflect the creativity and innovation of Slovenian society, culture, and science, and mirror the time. The experience of organising events in Cankarjev dom is different. We are the only congress centre and organiser in Slovenia offering a comprehensive congress service. This includes everything from a professional congress organisation to a seamless technical implementation. Our mission is to provide space and the conditions for meeting the most influential experts from all over the world. Professional meetings are the basis for education and transfer of knowledge, for the creation of new scientific and professional ideas, which, ultimately, also affect the success of the economy. We have a lot to show Cankarjev dom, the largest culture and congress centre in Slovenia, hosts as many as 2500 cultural, scientific and corporate events per year and is annually visited by half a million people (for comparison: Slovenia has a population of two million, while its capital Ljubljana, where Cankarjev dom is located, has fewer than 300,000).

We are distinctive ... … through our name Cankarjev Dom, Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana is named after Slovenia’s finest novelist, playwright and poet, Ivan Cankar (1876–1918), a Central European literary giant whose output reflects the prevailing trends of his time.

… through our building Cankarjev dom is the work of the architect Edvard Ravnikar (1907–93) who represents the central figure of Slovenian modern architecture and urbanism.

The building is dynamic and follows the organisation of the interior space. The unique façade casing made of white marble slabs gives the building a calm and homogeneous look. The fact that Cankarjev dom is worth a visit in its own right is confirmed by the fact that part of the city walls of the Roman Emona and older residential blocks is included in the aesthetic image of the surroundings of this mighty venue.

For professional congress organisers, the only internationally comparable and standardised method is the accreditation system of the international association IAPCO. The PCO â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Professional Congress Organisers association is committed to orderly, transparent and reliable management of congressional projects based on the certification and accreditation of its members. Currently, 171 members from 14 countries meet the strict certification criteria. In Slovenia, the only member of the IAPCO is the CD Congress Centre Ljubljana, having been a member since 1980.

Membership of the ICCA - International Congress and Convention Association assures the clients that events will be organised according to the international standards. The CD Congress centre Ljubljana has been a part of the network of more than 1,100 members worldwide since 1981.

Cankarjev dom belongs to the very top of the congress centres of New Europe. On the certification for the Meetings Star it received a high score of 4.81.

Club CD boasts some of the most beautiful views in Ljubljana: from Rožnik (Ljubljana’s central hill) to Triglav (the highest Slovenian mountain in the Julian Alps) on one side, and all the way to Ljubljana Castle on the other.

Altitude The difference in altitude from the cellar below the Gallus Hall to the CD Club is equal to the height of Ljubljana’s famous Skyscraper - 70.35 metres.

Ljubljana Film Festival – LIFFe

Grand Reception Hall

LIFFe – the most important regional film festival - is organised by Cankarjev dom. Since 1990, the festival has been presenting the best and the latest in European and international film production. In its three decades, the festival has grown from the initial 13 to almost 300 screenings in 2017, while the number attending has also been steadily increasing, from 4,000 in 1990 to an impressive 42,000 recent visitors.

The Grand Reception Hall is considered to be one of the most stunning and elegant halls in Slovenia.

The Schuke Organ in the Gallus Hall - the largest in this part of Europe With its four manuals, pedals and 73 registers and almost 8000 pipes the Cankarjev dom organs is a true revelation and challenge to organists, composers, orchestras and conductors.

Ljubljana Jazz Festival The Ljubljana Jazz Festival - the largest and oldest regional jazz festival - also takes place under the auspices of Cankarjev dom. For almost 60 years, Slovenia’s capital has played host to the Ljubljana Jazz Festival. In addition to the established names, the Ljubljana Jazz Festival also presents rising artists from all over the world, as well as music projects, while always placing a special emphasis on Slovenian musical creativity.

Everything under one roof Science and culture To organisers of scientific meetings we provide help at all stages of event preparation – from bidding to marketing, and all the way to execution of the conference or congress. For example, we host everything from a series of lectures on “Robots are changing the world”, given by internationally renowned experts, to talks by the stars of human sciences, such as Naomi Klein and Noam Chomsky. Cankarjev dom is located in the city centre, by Ljubljanaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s central Trg Republike square, and the great advantage of the location is that all the city sights and, above all, the key hotels are accessible on foot. There are many restaurants nearby, from self-service to top quality for the most demanding guests.

A great advantage is the variety of spaces for various congress needs. With recently completed renovations, all rooms are adapted to modern technological requirements, more useful, more comfortable, and more beautiful.

I’m happy to share the love of culture. Ljubljana’s cultural offer is so rich that no capital city would be ashamed of this. It’s best that you start your research on culture in our own building, while all the other central cultural institutions of Slovenia are also concentrated in the immediate vicinity.

I think that in their lives people can’t just disregard things like a healthy environment. Our five-star experiences are based on a safe and pleasant environment. This includes the mild climate, a high level of service, and a good attitude towards nature. You can connect with nature on the CD roof where, right in the city centre, we look after our own bee family.

I love it in Ljubljana that at the weekend I can put on my hiking shoes and either go to the nearby hills or take a trip to the sea and explore the picturesque towns and other places. You can really feel the breadth of life in Ljubljana. I’m trying to live this and I’m also trying to give our congress guests some of this same magic.

Walk through the impressive backstage area Urban Beekeeping A guided tour of the global specialty of Cankarjev dom: the urban beehive on the roof of the CD, which is an example of an environmentally friendly business philosophy.

In addition to the three independently moving parts of 324-square-metre base stage, the Gallus Hall in the subsection also houses a rotating stage with a diameter of 17 metres and an acoustic orchestra pit. This extraordinary space can also be transformed into an exceptional venue for events.
