In Residence Issue 3 • January Opening 2014
What each resident should know about Spring Opening
Welcome Back! A special welcome to all new students in housing Greetings and Happy New Year from the Department of Housing and Residential Life. 2014 should be a great year and we look forward to a wonderful spring semester with all of you.
HOUSING SIGN-UP FOR 2014-2015
Due to the continued high demand for on-campus housing by current residents, and the freshmen only housing of Hecht, Stanford, and some of Eaton Residential Colleges, housing sign-up for the 20142015 academic year will again be proceeded by a 2-week in “opt-in” period beginning in late January. The purpose for the opt-in process is to gauge resident student interest in continuing to live on campus and to determine if a lottery is necessary should the overall interest exceed the number of available spaces in Mahoney, Pearson, and part of Eaton Residential Colleges or apartment style in the
University Village. Should a lottery be necessary, the results will be announced in mid-February and the residents selected in the lottery will then be eligible to participate in housing sign-up following Spring Break. More details will be communicated in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you have general questions, you can contact the Department of Housing and Residential Life office at (305) 2844505 or via e-mail to email@example.com. Room Changes Room change request forms are available at all area reception desks. Limited spaces remain available in University Village for those that qualify (60+ completed credits-- junior standing). Completed forms should be returned to the Department of Housing and Residential Life office, Eaton Residential College-North Wing, Room 153. Requests will be processed in the order in which they are received. Seniority in on-campus housing will be honored in the assignment of single rooms and for resolving multiple requests for same spaces. Students who are granted room changes must follow normal check-in procedures and must be completely moved into their new rooms and out of their old rooms by the dates and times indicated on their room change approval forms. Students changing rooms within the same residential college/area must turn in their old keys and get new keys at their college/area reception desk. Students making room changes involving Eaton, Hecht, or Stanford Colleges need to have their ‘Cane cards reprogrammed in the Onity system at the reception desk. Students changing to other residential colleges/areas must get new keys to new rooms at the appropriate residential college/area reception desk.
January Calendar of Events
They should return the old keys to their current reception desk after they have completed their move. Students who change their minds after their room request has been approved, may request to remain in their original spaces, if the space has not already been reassigned. Those who are reinstated to their original assignments will be assessed a $100.00 administrative fee. Do not exchange keys with other students to avoid a $100 improper room change fine.
