SUMMER 2019

JUNE • JULY • AUGUST ALL PROGRAMS ARE FREE FOR ANYONE AFFECTED BY CANCER

Summer Time Fun! This summer brings special opportunities to survive and thrive! Whether joining our newer walking clubs in Homewood and Frankfort or learning cooking skills for outdoor barbecues, we have special programs to help you enjoy the warm sunny weather and thrive. We are especially excited to provide special kids programming including our two-week summer camp and new kids yoga. These are special opportunities for our youngest friends to gain extra support while a parent or family member manages through a cancer experience or navigates through bereavement. These kid programs give children a chance to be outdoors, learn new coping skills and know that they are not the only ones traveling this journey. If you know a young person who can benefit from these programs let them know about us so we can help them thrive through the challenges of cancer. Enjoy the sunshine!

The Cancer Support Center Events

Spring Gala a Roaring Success! A fabulous time was had by all at the Annual Spring Gala on April 12, 2019 at Ravisloe Country Club! In celebration of the Roaring Twenties theme, attendees were decked out in their finest 1920’s attire and enjoyed vintage cars, therapy dogs dressed in black tie, and a crooner at the end of the night. Highlights of the evening, in addition to all the amazing flapper dresses and 20’s regalia, were honoring Jack and Laura Lanigan for their longtime friendship, support and belief in The Center - we are so very grateful and honor the Lanigans with the 2019 Founders Award. Another highlight was an articulate and passionate survivor story given by Colleen Kaim, who eloquently shared her experiences at The Center. Our thanks are extended to the Lanigans, Colleen and all who came to celebrate The Center. A special thanks to our wonderful Gala Committee, especially Bobbi Kamradt, Gala chair, Jen Dore and Deb Okleshen. These talented women dedicated countless hours to make the event special. There was no detail spared and a great evening was had by all! Lastly, thank you so much to everyone who supported the Roaring 20’s Gala! Whether you attended the event that night, donated a silent auction item, sponsored or purchased an ad, we say thank you. Your belief in our work allows us to continue to be there for anyone impacted by cancer we could not do it without you!
