Oscar Gonzalez Minero ACT Young Canberra Citizen of the Year 2019

Named as the ACT Young Canberra Citizen of the Year for 2019 alongside his brother Josh, Oscar Gonzalez Minero says the recognition provided a good opportunity to “stop and reflect how far we’ve come”. At the end of 2016, the entrepreneurial brothers founded PKUP, a driving service that allows customers to be taken home in their own car, ensuring they and their cars return home safely. Oscar says they would like to expand their business to another state by the end of this year. Oscar, who grew up in Canberra and studied engineering and finance at the ANU, has also taken up the challenge of overcoming his fear of public speaking by signing up with Toastmasters. “It’s a good feeling to be able to tackle a problem front on. Once you do, it feels so great.” - Allison Turnbull 130

JACKET “It’s warm … I previously didn’t have a jacket like this and was so cold. You can wear this jacket without all the layers so you don’t feel so restricted.”

FAMILY “I love my family, everything with them, which is why I think the business has done well for us because we are so close.”
