Dear Members I recall wondering as a child what life would be like in the year 2020. I don’t think any of my predictions came true but I still believe we live in a lucky country and our children have much to be optimistic about. Our resolve is being tested by the terrible drought and bushfires surrounding us, but I hope we as a community can come through relatively unscathed. Through good times and difficult times, your local Club is a place to seek comfort and refuge and I am sure that is a role the Canberra Southern Cross Club will continue to play for many decades to come. As we launch into 2020 we’ve rolled out some all time favourite promotions over the first few months of the new year: • In February, the 5:1 StarRewards redemption offer will run for the whole month, giving you great value to redeem your points for food and beverages at the special promotional rate. • In March, Kids Month is back, highlighted by some great activities for families and the bonus of a Kids Eat Free offer every day of the month at Woden, Tuggeranong and Jamison. See pages 6 and 7 for all the details. • In April, Everyone’s a Winner is back. Every time you visit during April just swipe your membership card at the Rewards Centre at Woden, Tuggeranong or Jamison to
• May is our Month of Mum, where we help families spoil Mum with special meal offers through the month and our Month of Mum prize packs at each venue. The other highlights for the early part of 2020 are our new Southern Cross Health Women’s Gym at Stellar and of course our annual Chefs' Signature Dinner. The Women’s Gym, which opened in December on the top floor of Stellar has already been popular with existing SCHC members. Page 11 has more details on the membership options available. Our annual Chefs' Signature Dinner is locked in for Friday 13 March and always sells out quickly. If you haven’t been to one before, I urge you to consider coming along – it’s a night where we celebrate our talented Chefs, eat good food, drink good wine and enjoy some great music. Find out more on Page 5 of this edition of Members Magazine. I hope 2020 brings good cheer and happiness to you and your family. Regards

Chef Jojy with inset L-R Chef Jawad, Chef DJ and Chef Brad
Chefs' Signature Dinner 2020 Now in its sixth year, our annual Chefs' Signature Dinner is the culinary highlight on our calendar. This year's event sees the introduction of some new faces to our line up, with Head Chef DJ and Head Chef Jawad leading the teams from Jamison and Yacht Club respectively. Executive Chef Jojy has designed the main course featuring duck from the Young region in NSW, complemented with potatoes from Crookwell and locally grown vegetables from the Canberra region. "My grandfather was a spice farmer in Kerala, so I'm passionate about the people behind the produce and I always prefer to use local growers," he said. As always, the focus is on fresh produce and Head Chef Brad from Tuggeranong has used his mum's cooking as an inspiration. "I'm making a delicious Balinese style prawn dish featuring fresh prawns from Queensland wrapped in banana leaf," said Brad.
Chef Jawad from the Yacht Club has created a dessert featuring dark and white chocolate and fresh berries. "This dish is a modern play on an old classic. Fresh berries are so important as they set the tone for the whole dish," said Chef Jawad. This year's dinner features entertainment by internationally acclaimed Boys in the Band, backed by their sensational live band The Players as they explore a mega mix of hits from the last 50 years. The Chefs' Signature Dinner is always a sellout, so make sure you book early! Chefs' Signature Dinner is on Friday 13 March. Tickets are $130 per person or $1260 for a table of 10.
