The Augustana Vikings hockey team was forced to play an overtime period against Portage but the extra minutes didn’t solve the 3-3 deadlock in Lac La Biche on Nov. 15. The Voyageurs led 1-0 after 20 minutes and added to the total early in the middle frame. Konrad Litke netted his third of the season less than a minute later to cut the Portage lead in half at 2-1. Darryl Gagnon, who assisted on the first Vikings tally, netted his first of the year three minutes later to knot the game at 2-2. Matt Foster scored midway through the third to put the Vikings up before Portage garnered the equalizer. Goalie Joel Danyluk stopped 27 of 30 shots, while Augustana fired 31 at the Portage net. The return match in Camrose was cancelled due to the bad weather conditions on Nov. 16.
Augustana closes out the first half with a series against Red Deer. The home game is on Nov. 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the EnCana Arena. The game will feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss for the Kinette Club of Camrose Silent Santa program. Spectators are encouraged to bring stuffed animals to throw onto the ice immediately after the Vikings score their first goal. Items that shouldn’t be thrown onto the ice can be left at the entrance table for pickup. The Augustana Student’s Association will be holding a benefit road hockey game that begins at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the Edgeworth Centre parking lot. Entry is free to the public and there will be hot chocolate available for a donation. All proceeds will go to KidSport Camrose. The match will have two 25-minute periods.
