Dear Friends, Lives were changed at Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake in 2013. You helped do that! You enabled counselors to share their faith and you enabled campers to experience God’s love! They had fun, learned new skills and grew in confidence with some of the most skilled Christian youth development specialists I know. I am very grateful to all who contributed their time, gifts and skills toward making 2013 a success. Campership donations enabled many campers to attend who otherwise would not have been able to afford camp. Every summer counselors (our future leaders) quietly tell me “This was the best summer of my life!” Campers developed knowledge and skills that lead to increased self-sufficiency and independence. As a long-time camp director, mother and grandmother, I know that these are skills necessary to succeed in life. At Camp Westminster there are boundless opportunities for campers and staff to develop leadership skills and hone communication skills. There are opportunities for growth and quality skill building. Our need for community is very strong no matter what method we use to connect. During the summer, we know that face-to-face community is like no other. Counselors seize teachable moments. Campers have access to real people to test their ideas about life and to talk through challenges they may face. They build connections and relationships that will carry them through the years. And Camp Westminster is now building a year-round community with the new opportunities to use Van Dusen, the Holland House and many new methods including social media. In 2013 Camp Westminster received the Green Leaf Seal from the Presbyterian Church (USA)’s Environmental Ministries Office and the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association (PCCCA).In addition to programs such as Radical Community: Westminster to the World and the Free to Be Camps, new this year was the Faith Communities Coalition camp for foster children and their current family members and the partnership with Kids Against Hunger. The muchanticipated and needed renovations and additions to Van Dusen Lodge and the construction of the Wilderness Expedition Pavilion were started at the end of the summer. Thanks are also due the many volunteers who served at the camp in various capacities including gardening, painting, trail maintenance, carpentry, music camp directing, firewood cutting and more. Without the assistance of these willing servants it would be impossible to maintain and develop Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake. From a heartfelt thank you letter from a camper comes this thought “Though we have never met, you have no doubt influenced my life greatly ...I plan to follow in your footsteps in the years to come by helping the camp as best I can.” In His Service,

Suzanne Suzanne Getz Bates Executive Director

“I would first like to sincerely thank you for your donation to Camp Westminster. I enjoyed my experiences here greatly and without your help I’m sure this would not have been possible. Thank you so much, and I pray that you will continue to support my favorite camp in America. God bless you!”
