Why Wear a Belt When You Can...Sag? It’s always a treat when one is privy to seeing undergarments. Generally, it means that something good might be on the way. Possibly you’re in a gentleman’s club; there’s just something nice about seeing undergarments…unless it’s every day in public because people cannot seem to pull their pants. At first, it was kind of off-putting to witness different colored drawers every day – I mean, there has not been a single day when I was on campus that somebody’s drawers were not out because of the phenomenon of sagging. But, like many things, constant exposure will desensitize the initial shock value, and I now look at sagging for a new purpose. At least now I see new types of drawers I can possibly purchase for myself. Seriously though, the issue of sagging is now a cultural one. As I write this, the shorts I have on are not at my waist. But I am in the comfort of my own home; I could be nude and I’m not offending anybody (as long as I keep the blinds shut). It becomes an entirely different issue when I have my shorts at my knees and my drawers out for all to see. But it has become an aspect of contemporary American culture, not just black culture. It seems like everybody is sagging nowadays, primarily because it is what everybody else does. For me to be a part of my generation, I need to know how to dress like the people my age, not the “old folks” who use belts and have their pants at their waists. We e n d u p w i t h a c u l t u r a l conundrum – look like the people of our time but at the same time offend many other people. While I may be desensitized to underwear sightings, it does not mean I think they are in any way, shape, or form a presentable look. From a practical standpoint, if it’s cold out, it becomes a lot easier to catch a breeze (and not in a good way). There’s only so much comfort that comes from having your pants at your knees, because now you have to walk with your legs a lot more spread out, hampering one’s mobility and (trust me from experience) it is not very comfortable.

And nobody wants to look at drawers everyday. There’s literally nothing fit to be seen about underwear becoming outerwear. But again, it is a sign of the times. This generation has its own unique style, with sagging having become an influential part of the style. People plan out what color underwear they’ll wear so it’ll match their outfits, for example. In a certain way, sagging could be done in a respectable manner, r ef o r min g o u r o p in io n s o n w h at is presentable. However, what does not change is that men have their underwear hanging out, and that right now, that’s not a respectable look. So we’re still stuck – dress “respectably” and pull our pants up, or dress like the people in our generation and keep our pants lower than our waists. To be honest, if people sagged in order to change the status quo, and not because they thought it was the status quo, I would be all for it. But, more often than not, we sag because it is what we see everyday, and we make the correlation that it is what we should be doing. Maybe there’s a compromise; if we can’t have the pants at our waists, can we at least have them above the lower thigh? John Torrey- Morehouse College Courtesy of: blackcollegewire.com

Women Please Stop Complaining About Men. Women need to stop complaining -they are the reason for the lack of "high caliber" men on college campuses. The standard is set by the female. A male dresses nice to attract females. A man keeps himself up to attract females. But he will not do more than is needed to attract females, which is where the problem lies. Wo m e n h a v e a l l o w e d s u c h haphazard, lazy, trifling and downright embarrassing attempts at approaching them fly for so long that men do not feel the need to improve their approaches because they don't

see the reason to expend a lot of energy when the minimal effort is successful. If I can take a test by barely glancing over my notes and still pass, that's what I'm going to do. But if I know I must reread the chapter, go over my notes multiple times and make note cards, just to pass, then I will. Women used to be the latter, now they are the former. If all women came together and decided that they were not going to allow any more of the nonsense men are known to produce, then men would step up to the challenge and raise their games. Why? Because men want women, and getting them is their life's goal. But if one woman will not allow nonsense, but twenty others will, well, that is not the fault of the man. Now, I'm not saying that men do not have a part in this, because they do. But women need to realize that they have much more of a role than they think in how guys act when it comes to them. Women stay in broken down relationships with men who do not deserve them and stay in them for so long that when they finally do get out these relationships, they have a negative image that all men are like that. No, just the men you date are like that. Immaturity exists among men and women. Time after time, a woman will detail the many downfalls of the man she's with. She continuously reels off his faults, his issues and his inability to be who she needs him to be, yet she is still with him. I understand that women are natural nurturers but after a while you have to say enough is enough. Some women complain from beginning to end when there should have never been a beginning to begin with. Just find someone of your maturity level and move on. If your school does not have someone like that, then look somewhere else; look deeper into the male population on campus or look at yourself and realize that maybe you have a false sense of your own maturity level. The Plastics... Truth Behind the Flyer, and the Model Life -exclusive interview with CR, Sahai Arnold, and The Plastics only at www.campus-rockstar.com-

Coming to the Campus Rockstar Billboard this week Obama Won but Republicans also Represent America The American people are facing yet another stimulus package. To a lot of us, it means higher taxes. To some of us, it means absolutely nothing at all. Whatever it means to us individually, the fact still remains that the main headline on every news network is this new stimulus package from President Obama. In his first words to the country, Obama brought about a message of bipartisan politics, meaning that, in America, differences of opinion should not hinder us from doing the right thing. But, as voting for this new stimulus package draws n e a r, R e p u b l i c a n s a n d s o m e conservative Democrats seem to be pulling the same things that we have seen for the past eight years. The President himself has even scheduled a trip to Capitol Hill to muster support for the package. But Republicans seem as embattled as ever against this package passing. They still seem to be quoting the ageold adage that tax cuts stimulate the economy and low interest rates get people to buy more. Normally, I would agree, but how much is too much? The interest rates that the Fed can effectively cut are reportedly closing in on zero. Also, as people rapidly lose their jobs, such as the 40,000 reported on the Jan. 26, they have no money to spend or receive that would allow for them to see the benefits of those tax cuts. It would seem that the only answer to spending our way out of this mess is to increase government spending on public works and infrastructure to create jobs. This is the basis of President Obama's plan. It is estimated that the government would spend anywhere from $100,000 to $275,000 per job that would be created. That is a huge sum of money when you look at the fact that the

package proposes to create three Be Careful Who You million jobs over the next two years. Vote For! When you take a quick look at it, Obama's stimulus package seems to be It seemed as though it was the best thing we have seen in eight going to be the same old story, egoyears. So, before you vote- if you vote- really ask yourself why the person on the e-ballot is running. Personally I am tired of hearing- “We are for the students”- I mean who else would you be for, since only the students can vote for you? What I really want to know is why hasn’t any candidate in the previous years completed their promise or even promises in their platform? It is like continuously telling a child they will get a puppy, and buying them a stuffed animal, yes it is still a dog, but it is fakestuffed-and emotionless. I would love to come back and see a SGA that plans things for their students. Such as family events forums on networking, business and money building-something that really matters to the students. How about artists students really want to hear at homecoming, and sit ins or rally’s when things don't go as planned such as financial aid, housing or even the legacy of Morgan State continuing to look like an HBCU. Where is this candidate that actually wants to improve their campus and not a Word Document? I don’t know, but I hope before you vote, that you have the answer.

Spring Break Edition Broken Economy Doesn’t kill Spring Break Spirits

Although the economy is at its worst since 1929, according to some analysts, students are still making ambitious plans for the highly-anticipated spring break. A survey administered to Te n n e s s e e State University students found that of 100 students, 76 percent are taking trips during Spring Break, March 7-15. Though the economy has determined how far and by what means students will travel, spring break is nevertheless in full effect. "With this economy it's still going to be fun," said Josh Scales, a senior mass communication and real estate major from Henderson, Tenn. Scales also indicated that there was no way he will not be enjoying the week-long break. As usual, many deals are available for spring breakers, at sites such as StudentCity.com. Places like New Mexico and Miami are doing their part when it comes to accommodating students' possible financial struggles. "I always get a special deal when I fly with Southwest and find package deals for a trip," said Marteicus Reed, a sophomore finance major from Memphis. Even with discounts and lowered rates available, there is still a percentage of students that have to be realistic when it comes to break plans. Some students, like Valerie Felder, had made plans that changed due to the

economy. Felder said she planned to go on a cruise with her friends, but had to change her plans when her father received a pay cut from his job in Texas. I can't rely on him for financial support anymore," said Felder, a senior mass communication major from Houston. "He was my backbone and since it's no longer there I have to make sure I can survive on my own. That means cruises are out the picture." Despite the recession, spring break hot spots are still r e t a i n i n g t h e i r a pp e a l among students. According to the Quintana Roo Tourism Office, about 30,000 people visited Cancun in 2008. They are expecting the same amount of visitors in 2009. The main spring break locations are Las Vegas, Orlando and South Florida, according to Travelocity. "I hear so much about Florida and have never been to the beach, so I have to hit the hot spot for the break," said Stuart McClean, a senior psychology major from Dallas. In Florida, the Panama City Beach Convention and Visitor Bureau made adjustments to ensure no financial losses. Last year, the bureau cut in half its advertisements, and still managed to attract about 200,000 visitors. Panama City is the number one city for spring break tourists in Florida. Jason Chute, the director of operations for StudentCity.com, said that specialty trips such as spring break will never die in popularity. "Typically the student business is more resilient to the economy because it's like a lifetime trip," Chute said. "A lot of times kids will go no matter what."
