L’Oréal Malaysia Introduces Women In Science for the Sixth Year Women have come a long way to where they are now and what they do. Although most of them are not given the recognition they deserve, some have theirs highlighted and appreciated. L’Oréal Malaysia has set up a program called ‘For Women In Science’, which was first launched in 2006 and has been running successfully every year. L’Oréal Malaysia allocates a total of RM60,000 for this program, which will provide financial assistance of RM20,000 each to three young female researchers to pursue their scientific projects in Malaysia. Now in its sixth edition, The Women in Science Fellowship is L’Oréal’s number one corporate commitment to provide encouragement, support and recognition to women in the field of science. To date, this program has already awarded fifteen National Fellows. According to Tay Ai Leen, Corporate Communications Director of L’Oréal Malaysia, “Even though women excel at all levels of upper education, they are still poorly represented at the highest levels of scientific research.” She goes on to say that they remain committed to the philosophy that ‘The World Needs Science and Science Needs Women’. This program operates on a national level and L’Oréal Malaysia invites Malaysian women under 35 year, who are PhD holders and currently pursuing research study in the field of Material Sciences to send in their applications. Registration for application of fellowship will be open from 24th March till 31st July. For more information, log on to www.loreal.com.my. This is your time to shine, so embrace this opportunity!

Age is not an indicator of when to start using skincare products,

say the experts from Vichy Laboratoires. Here, they tackle some of your burning questions on how to start and maintain the right kind of skincare regime.

Q How soon should I start using skincare products? A When it comes to the question of when a person should start using

skincare products, several people would answer in their teens or in other words, when they hit puberty. However, nowadays, women are starting to teach their children the importance of caring for their skin. Did you know the sunscreen that your mother used to put on your face before heading out under the Sun? Well, the application of the sunscreen marks the day you started using skincare products. Therefore, VICHY Laboratoires believes that it is never too early nor too late to start using skincare products to care for your skin. Age is not an indicator of when you should start using skincare products because each person regardless of age may face similar or different skin concerns. Hence, it is important that one should not just start caring for their skin when their skin is faced with imperfections but instead one should be paying attention to their skin from the very start. Like the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.

Q What kind of skincare range should I start off with? There are so many types out there; whitening, anti-acne, hydrating care? A There are various skincare ranges out in the market ranging from anti-imperfection and oil control, whitening, anti-aging to the basic skincare.

Firstly, one important factor in choosing the right skincare products for you is that the products are tested on sensitive skin. Often enough, people do not know that their skin may be sensitive towards certain ingredients in certain skincare products. Hence, it is important to search for skincare brands that are tested on sensitive skin, such as VICHY Laboratoires. All products from VICHY Laboratoires are tested on sensitive skin and are formulated with the well-known pure VICHY Thermal Spa Water which soothes and fortifies the skin. Secondly, it is essential to use the right products that are suitable for your skin type and targets your skin concerns. For example, if your skin has imperfections such as breakouts, acne and shine, it is advisable to use an anti-imperfection and oil control range such as VICHY Normaderm, to reduce any imperfections and control sebum production. For those who have no skin concerns, they can use the basic hydration ranges, VICHY Purete Thermale and Aqualia Thermal ranges which helps to remove impurities and dirt while continuously keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized, leaving the skin feeling rejuvenated and supple all day long.

Q Can I just use a cleanser every day? Do I still need to use a toner and moisturizer? Why? A It is not advisable to just use a facial cleanser everyday without the use of a toner and moisturizer. The main reason behind this is that each product has different

functions. A facial cleanser is used to cleanse and remove all impurities and excess dirt on your skin while a toner is used to remove residual dirt, oils or cleanser residues. Additionally, a toner also serves the purpose of closing pores to prevent any absorption of bacteria. The application of a toner is especially important to those who often wear make-up because it serves as an additional cleanser that removes any remaining dirt or make-up residue. After cleansing and toning your face, it is important to regain skin’s moisture by keeping it hydrated with the use of a good moisturizer. This is vital because if skin becomes too dry and lacks moisture, it may cause excess sebum production to occur. Hence, it is crucial to follow a 3-step skincare regime; cleanse, tone and moisturize.

Q I seem to be acne-prone but fear that I might chose a skincare range that will make the condition worse. How do I shop wisely? A If you are often prone to acne, breakouts and other imperfections such as shine, it is advisable to use skincare

products from an oil control and anti-imperfection range. VICHY Laboratoires strongly recommends you to use Normaderm, the oil control skincare range, which specifically targets imperfections and shine, resulting in flawless and shine-free skin complexion. For acne-prone skin, it is important to invest in a good facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer that contains Salicylic Acid, to help reduce breakouts and acne. Salicylic Acid is an essential ingredient in anti-acne products because it encourages the removal of dead skin cells by loosening the cells accumulated in the sebum duct that obstructs and generates imperfections through clogged pores, resulting in smoother and softer skin. Besides that, it also boasts anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness of breakouts. Try Normaderm Anti-Imperfection Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream, a cream cleanser that thoroughly eliminates impurities, dead cells and excessive sebum production, resulting in smooth, refresh and radiant skin complexion. As for a toner, try Normaderm Purifying Astringent Toner which removes impurities, visibly tightens pores and reduces imperfections with the help of Salicylic Acid, for a more even skin surface. Finally, use the NEW Normaderm TriActiv Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care, a complete anti-imperfection moisturizer that incorporates, for the 1st time, dermatological peeling ingredients (Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid and LHA) in an ultra-comfortable, moisturizing and mattifying texture to achieve healthy, flawless and luminous skin. VICHY Laboratoires strongly believes that in order to reconstruct healthy skin, targeting imperfections is simply just not sufficient enough. Instead, healthy skin needs to be shine-free and well hydrated as well to regain skin’s original luminosity and radiance. Hence, the NEW NORMADERM Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care is simply unique and different from other moisturizers because it offers triple performance in one gesture: anti-imperfections, mattifying and 24-hour hydration.
