‘YAYASAN SUNBEAMS HOME’ VISIT TO FTMS

Beauty Q&A

Crabtree & Evelyn NEW WISTERIA Wisteria is the newest addition to Crabtree & Evelyn’s acclaimed Floral Fragrance Collection – comprising of Lily, Lavender, Rosewater, and Iris.

Q : Most of us focus on caring for our face forgetting that our body is equally as important. What does one have to do as their daily body care regime? A : The body is also very important! The Crabtree & Evelyn Wisteria offers total body care with its range. First, the Wisteria Shower Gel performs mild cleansing, leaving skin refreshed. Next the Body Lotion moisturises the skin giving it a nice and longer lasting scent. As icing on the cake, the Wisteria range is formulated without parabens, colour, phthalates, mineral oil, and propylene glycol.

Q : How does your new product line restore adult skin giving it softness? A : The Wisteria range has wisteria, peony elderflower and magnolia extracts which mainly condition the skin, and by adding the Shea Butter, they work hand in hand to moisturise the skin. The Wisteria is a must try because it is a unique fragrance that has not been developed by any other body care or perfume label.

Q:

I visit the beauty section in stores monthly to restock my beauty products. I always come across body lotions, creams and moisturisers. What are the differences?

A : The differences can be seen through the textures, however they are all meant to moisture, hydrate and condition the skin. Body lotions are great

to use as a lightweight lotion throughout the day, or when you’re in an air conditioned room and need a quick body-moisture fix. The Body creams are generally thicker and richer, it replaces lost moisture and thoroughly moistures dry skin, keeping it soft, smooth and supple.

Q : When is the best time in the day to apply the body care products and how many times daily is ideal? A : Applying body care is usually done after a shower when the body is clean. However, it can be applied throughout the day when the body needs it, especially in an air conditioned room. For dry hands, Wisteria Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy contains ceremides which helps to retain moisture in the skin, shea butter to moisten and soften the hands and Saccharide Isomerate which is a moisture regulator. Good to use anytime, anywhere.

Q : If I have sensitive skin, what should I look out for when choosing a product that will best suit my skin type? A : The Wisteria range is recommended for all skin types. However, if you have dry skin, the Wisteria Body Cream helps replace lost moisture as it

contains a blend of Wisteria and English flower extracts (peony, elderflower and magnolia) which soothe, condition, and soften the skin. It also contains Olive Oil - emollient oil, rich in essential fatty acids, which superb is for moisturizing dry skin.

Q : Where can I purchase Crabtree Evelyn products? A : FLAGSHIP STORE: Suria KLCC, Pavilion Sogo, Mid Valley Megamall Bangsar Village II, 1 Utama Shopping Centre Sunway Pyramid, Gurney Plaza,Penang, The Spring, Kuching and Suria Sabah, Kota Kinabalu

COVER STORY

Greyson Chance

I

f the youth are indeed the hope of an entire nation, then the nation of music has one more reason to be inspired. With the likes of Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and the Jonas brothers having already paved the way; it was only a matter of time before the next big young sensation exploded onto the scene. Enter the world of Greyson Michael Chance.  For those who do not know who Greyson is, this could only mean that you’ve either been living on the moon or under a rock for the last couple of years. The Texas born child musical prodigy turned YouTube sensation turned hot selling recording artist, burst onto the scene at the tender age of 12 when his piano rendition of Lady Gaga’s ”Paparazzi” went viral and caught everyone’s attention; namely one Ellen DeGeneres. Today, the 14 year old whose hit single “Waiting Outside the Lines" and début album “Hold On ‘Til the Night” were released in 2010 and 2011 respectively, already has his second album in the works. Signed to Ellen DeGeneres’ eleveneleven Records and comanaged by both Madonna and Lady Gaga’s managers, Greyson shows no signs of wanting to stop and smell the roses as he prepares for his second tour of Asia. His first South East Asian tour last year which covered Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia, also saw the boy wonder invited to perform at Malaysia’s own version of the Grammy’s, AIM (Anugerah Industri Muzik); making him the first foreign artists invited to do so since 1999.

CAMPUSPLUS \\ MAY 2012

Still very ‘hush hush’ about his upcoming album, the boy of the hour was his usual chirpy, relaxed and down to earth self as he met with the press at his hotel just a day before his performance at KL Live. Here is an excerpt from the roundtable interview:

Q: Do you feel like you’ve maybe grown up very suddenly because of everything that’s happened in the last couple of years? A: Definitely not…I don’t think so. I think I’ve grown up naturally and I think people don’t realise that I’m still a kid and I still joke around with my team and have fun with my band; like I’m still a normal, normal kid. Q: This your second trip to Malaysia so what’s the main thing that’s brought you back here? A: Well the main thing is, I’m sure as you guys know, I’m starting off my “Hold on ‘Til the Night” Asian Tour in Malaysia and I’m super excited. I’m kicking it off tomorrow at KL Live and I can’t wait to perform it. I’m really excited to show my fans this show because it’s much different from my last show that I performed here. Q: Is there any artist that you would like to collaborate with on this album? A: There’s a couple that I’ve already collaborated with but of course I’m not going to give the details about it, but I can give one hint I posted on my Twitter. I’ve been collaborating a lot with Ariana Grande whom I’m really good friends with. And she’s the best voice I’ve ever heard from anybody, and we’ve had a lot of fun writing a lot of good stuff together. Q: Is there anyone you would like to collaborate with in future? A: Probably Taylor Swift. I’m a huge fan of Taylor Swift and everything that she does and that would be a dream collaboration. Q: Have you had the chance to meet her? A: I’ve never met her actually. Isn’t that crazy? I’ve met everybody else on the planet except for Taylor Swift. Q: Just to get an idea of your inspiration for music, what do you listen to when you are not performing and are at home? A: I listen to everything to be honest with you. I’m in a big Nas phase right now actually, except the dressing. *laughs* I listen to a lot of old rap music like B.I.G. and Tupac and Nas; kind of older stuff. But you know, also I listen to a lot of singer-songwriter, I listen to electronic music, I listen to pop music a lot. You know, I really listen to all different types of music because I feel as an artist I should be educated with each different type of music; but mainly I would say singer-songwriter. Q: Do you have any rituals before you go on stage, like a prayer or anything? A: Ya, I do this really weird breathing exercise which I’m not going to show you *chuckles* I drink a lot of tea and I do a lot of vocal warm-ups.

FACE IN THE FRAME

Fay Hokulani his month Fay Hokulani is our Face in the frame as it is about being fit, healthy and looking good. T Fay Hokulani is a model, host, artist, designer, radio personality and most importantly a fitness enthusiast. She is the excellent person in keeping fit and she has a body to die for. CP FH

How would you describe your childhood? I didn’t kick it with a lot of friends, but I was always content with whatever I had. The best part about my childhood was the time I received my first inline-skates. I was about 7 years old and even though it wasn’t brand new, I was THRILLED when my close aunt decided to give me her old pair. I learned how to skate all on my own, practicing everyday outside the house until I felt confident to skate around the block. At that age, for the first time, I felt a great sense of accomplishment and independence.

CP

Did you ever picture yourself to be where you are now? What was your childhood dream job? For the longest time, I wanted to be a gymnast and I guess that explains why I’m so flexible now! FH But instead, I tried out a few different extra curriculum activities in school to find out what I really liked. I signed up for touch rugby, Red Cross, military band and cheerleading. I was never fully committed to any of them because I wanted to try so many things at once. I was unrealistically ambitious as a kid! Honestly never thought I’d be in this field I am in now!

How do you juggle your time and your career being a model, host, radio personality & fitness enthusiast? In staying fit, as with every aspect of life, smart planning is a very important step once you’ve set FH your goals. When you make it an effort to plan and prepare your meals ahead of time, you are less likely to make bad last minute food choices. I’d say the same about my work and workout schedule. With a proper workout plan, you utilize all the time you spend at the gym because you are always on track with what you need to do rather than idle or procrastinate.

CP

CP

What is the importance to you on practicing and living a healthier lifestyle? What you talk about, you bring about; and for me, it’s health and fitness. I started my blog because FH I wanted to share my fitness journey - the struggles, the slip-ups and the rewards. Being healthy and staying fit is a choice I make all day and every day because it makes me feel empowered and strong. That’s the kind of positive energy I’d like for myself and humbly influence on others. Is there anyone who motivates you to work out or anyone who inspires you? Just before I started getting into fitness, I was given this book called ‘Body For Life’. I found a lot FH of the stories from the individuals who signed up for the ‘BFL’ nutrition and exercise programme to be very inspiring, which was what got me started. Now, I find motivation mostly through new music and fitness magazines. I share a lot of my favourite workout tracks, routines and exercise tips on my blog to motivate others and in a way, it helps me too!

What are the obstacles you face while maintaining that great shape? How do you overcome food temptations? Mainly eating out. Oh, the pleasures of eating out! It makes healthy eating so much harder with FH all the food choices out there at various restaurants and hawkers. I maintain my diet by preparing my own meals so I can control what I put in my food and its proportions.

CP

To overcome food cravings or temptations, make sure you’re drinking enough water and eat every 2-3 hours so you’re never on an empty stomach. If you’re still finding it hard to keep it together, drink a protein shake or have a bit of peanut butter on whole grain toast! How important is discipline to you and what is the one thing you would look forward in a person’s attitude? Disciple comes hand-in-hand with willpower and determination. It’s important in not just FH achieving your goals but also maintaining them. However, nothing great is achieved without ENTHUSIASM! Sometimes you got to cut lose and not put too much pressure on yourself so you’ll always enjoy what you do.

CP

Do you have any tips on how to squeeze in a before study work out? As much as I’d like to exercise at least 4 days a week, there are times when I’d have to prioritize FH other things on my calendar such as work and for you all will be your studies. So if I can’t train mean, I eat extra clean and simply get back on track with my exercises the next day.

CP

Another way to do it is to cut my work out time into half with High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This is done most effectively with a workout timer. Basically it starts off with a few minutes of warm-up before gradually increasing speed and varying of intensities within one workout. You can do it with free weights (dumbbells), on the stationary bike, stair master, and elliptical machine or even along corridor. So instead of working out for an hour, I take between 15 to 20 minutes. You’ll definitely feel more refreshed after pumping all that energy! A healthy body is a healthy mind. CP FH

What message would you like to share with our young readers out there? Banish all that negative-talk from your inner dialogue like telling yourself ”I can never do that” or “Maybe tomorrow is a better day to try…” BIG NO! You’re all you’ve got so don’t you compromise yourself. Remember, being positive is understanding that you’re in control of your destiny.

CP

You also have a website dedicated to “those who want to lose weight and look good but do not know where to begin” please do tell us about it? FH I started my withlovefay.com so that I can share with others what I’ve learnt and what I’ve been through when I decided I wanted to change my lifestyle. It is about getting in shape, feeling more confident about your body and looking good in the clothes you wear. This website is not just about health and fitness, it is also about fashion and beauty because I believe that in order to look good, you have to feel good and all that begins with taking care of your body. 4Minute Comeback With “Dream Racer” & “Volume Up”

Girls’ Generation Release Album “Twinkle”

With their performance on Inkigayo, 4Minute has completed their first weekend of comeback performances for their new album. Along with their title track, “Volume Up,” they have also been performing “Dream Racer.” Recently, after their first comeback performance on M!Countdown, Nam Ji Hyun apologized for a weak live performance due to her throat not being in a good condition.

It looks like the rumours were true! The Girls’ Generation will have subunits. We had reported before that it was unsure whether the rumours were true or not. The rumours had started because a music publishing company posted on their website, “Our songwriter’s song has been selected for one of the songs in Girls’ Generation’s subunit group’s (Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Jessica) new album, so we are busy arranging the piece.” The subunit will in fact consist of Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun. The subunit is being called Taetiseo and they will release their mini album “TWINKLE” on May 2. The mini album will contain songs that will feature the charming vocal skills of the Girls’ Generation members. It will also be made up of different music genres. Source: http://www.soompi.com

Album Reviews Rebecca Ferguson Heaven

Heaven is the debut studio album by British singersongwriter, Rebecca Ferguson. The album’s title Heaven came about because Ferguson said she was in “Heaven” while recording the album. Ferguson puts her own stamp on the album by co-writing every track, including the lead single “Nothing’s Real But Love”.

Aliff Aziz

Aliff Aziz’s latest single “Jangan Ganggu Pacar Ku” is a hit because there is a story behind the song. According to the composer, the song tells the story that takes place among young lovers on Facebook. The album consists of eight songs like “Cinta Ya Cinta, Hanya Lagu, Sudah Nasibku, Cinta Dusta, Setiap Detik, Nada Cinta and “Dilema Cinta.”

SPORTS PLUS KL DRAGONS FIGHT

The Dragons has made it all the way to the semi-finals before getting eliminated by the powerhouse, Philippine Patriots. Fury the Dragon mascot was introduced on 10th October 2010 and became an instant hit. The name Fury was chosen as it represents adorable side to the fans, yet a fierce alter-ego to intimidate the opponents. Another fan favourite is the Dragonettes, the team’s dancers led by choreographer, Jane Victor. For the past seasons up till now, the Dragonettes have been the main opening act at the Dragons Den. These fiery girls do not only dance and perform to keep the fans continuously entertained throughout the breaks and timeouts. They play a far more important role than that. The Dragonettes are the main spark of energy, leading the fans in the Dragons Den to support the team, creating a thundering atmosphere throughout the stadium. At every home game, fans stand a chance to win up to RM10, 000 worth of prizes from Celcom, B-Card, and the Dragons. WELLNESS

START THE EXERCISE HABIT LET'S FACE IT It’s not all that difficult to start a fitness routine. After all, most of us have done it more than once. The trouble, of course, comes with sticking with it. All too often, our initial enthusiasm and energy wanes, we get distracted by other things going on in our lives, or we don't think we're seeing results quickly enough and throw in the towel. Yet many people do manage to hang in there, and would no sooner skip their regular workout than their morning shower. Even people who consistently stick to an effective health and fitness routine can sometimes fall out of the habit from time to time. Getting back on track can be challenging unless ways are found to rebuild a strong desire to start exercising again. Here are 5 ways to give yourself the mental kick in the pants that you need to stop procrastinating, get up off the couch, and get back into the habit.

Use it as an excuse for some “me” time. If you lead a chaotic life where it seems like every moment of your time is consumed by work, family, school, or household obligations use a consistent exercise routine as an excuse to spend some much needed quality time to yourself. Block off a part of your day where you are utterly unavailable, and tell everyone in your circle of influence to leave you alone during that time. Spend at least 30 minutes working up a good sweat every day, and during that time give absolutely no consideration to anyone or anything other than your own needs and desires.

Put away your “fat” clothes. It’s a lot easier to put off exercising whenever we can hide our fat rolls underneath clothes that make us feel like we’re not as out of shape as we really are. Take all of the clothes that allow you to hide your extra pounds and put them in a box. Tape the box up and put it in your garage or your attic, and force yourself to wear clothes that don’t hide the lumps.

Make yourself an irresistible offer. The idea of giving yourself a reward for losing weight is nothing new. However, most people choose lame rewards like a nice dinner, or a night on the town. If you want to crank up your motivation to get in shape, don’t offer yourself something that only lasts for a few hours. Promise yourself an entire weekend of frivolity, a shopping spree, or maybe even a new “toy” like a flat-screen TV or a new dining room set. Make your reward something that you are actually willing to work for.

Turn it into a social experience. Misery loves company, as they say, so why not get rid of your own misery with a partner who is on the same boat? If you have a friend, a neighbour, a co-worker, or a family member who also needs to lose weight, grab a partner and make a solemn pact to force each other to stick to it. If you’re single, use this as an excuse to find a mate.

Take a good look in the mirror. When all else fails, get naked and stand in front of a full-length mirror. Take a good look from the front, turn to the side, and even turn around and look back over your shoulder at your behind. If you need to lose even 10 pounds, the mirror will be more than happy to show them to you. At least once or twice a week stand in front of the mirror until you start to like how your body looks from every angle.
