ROUND THE CAMPFIRE CAMP-TASTIC NEWS FROM CAMP QUALITY FALL EDITION • OCTOBER 2019
CAMP CHAT IT'S FALL YA'LL! We had such an amazing summer with such an endless amount of CQ magic going on throughout all our camps, that we can't even believe it! For every camper who caught their first fish, snagged their first solo on stage and conquered the ropes course for the first time with their new camp friends, we give the most heartfelt thank you! We're wowed by the generosity and dedication of our volunteers and friends in the community. Your support is allowing children to experience joy, parents to have a week of respite. It's giving siblings time to have undivided attention and volunteers the opportunity to observe the resilience and grit of children who have been affected by cancer.

UNDER THE STARS AXE CANCER 2019
THANK YOU, FROM THE BOTTOM OF OURS HEARTS! Our second annual Axe Cancer event was a day of inspiration, entertainment, fun and most importantly, a hugely successful fundraiser. Across 7 Canadian cities we raised $57,255.55, generous donations that will provide more uplifting camp experiences to kids affected by cancer. None of this would be possible without our guests, sponsors, donors and volunteers!
To everyone who joined us, in person and from afar, thank you for supporting our mission. We're especially grateful to our major sponsors for their support of our event and their dedication to helping children affected by cancer and their families. There is still time to donate, visit www.campquality.org or call 416-406-2267 x 104.
EXTRA, EXTRA A TRIP OF A LIFETIME
MEET TYLER In August, Breaking Borders participants took off on a 3-day canoe trip through Algonquin Park! The group included Tyler, or "TJ", a New Heights volunteer extraordinaire. TJ began attending Camp Quality Northern Ontario at age nine and continued all the way through to Camp Quality New Heights, before becoming a volunteer. Breaking Borders gave Tyler the opportunity to connect with other young adult survivors and take off on the adventure of a lifetime! For the first time, he slept in a tent, sterned and even portaged a canoe! At our campsites, Tyler ensure that everyone was kept warm by finding the dry wood for a campfire after a storm. After night one, Tyler told the group during Roses and Thorns that the trip exceeded his expectations!

CAMP NOTES From Executive Director, Jarvis Strong Greetings Campers, Families and CQ Volunteers, Memorable is definitely a good word to describe my first summer as the new Camp Quality Canada, Executive Director. It was such a pleasure visiting the camps and meeting many of you. We may only be one of many camps in Canada for children dealing with serious illnesses, but I think you would be hardpressed to find a happier group of campers and a more fiercely proud and caring group of volunteers. I learned a lot about Camp Quality this summer and how important our camp programs are to all of your lives. One of the things that struck me most was the powerful sense of belonging that all of you had in your community camps.
If I had to pick other words to sum up my camp visit experiences, laughter and friendship would be at the top of the list. It's true what they say - laughter is the best medicine. I look forward to many more summers, eventually meeting all of you and many more smiles. On behalf of the CQC Board of Directors, Thank You for Being a Part of the Camp Quality Community.
TWO STARS & A WISH At Camp Quality, we are responsible for tender hearts & brave souls; newfound courage & belly laughs; fireside giggles & lasting memories. Most importantly, we are responsible for helping a child affected by cancer start to believe in the impossible. We really, truly can’t offer life-changing summer camp experiences for kids affected by cancer without amazing volunteers. Starting this fall we are introducing CQ Volun-Cheer Leader program. It’s an opportunity for our returning volunteers, to reach out to their friends, family, coworkers and communities about the power of volunteering and how to get involved with CQ! What does this mean? It means you’ll receive access to lots of volunteer recruitment goodies, videos, photos, slide decks, and more! We’ll also send you print material to share!

make magic Ways to Give This Fall
Camp Quality provides a space where kids who have faced cancer can try new things, meet new friends with shared experiences, and make memories without the stigma of illness that follows them at home. It's a place to rebuild the strength and independence that are often lost during treatment, and to heal emotionally through laughter and joy.
