YOUR CHILD IS OUR #1 PRIORITY The key to a great staff is quality training. All staff take part in our extensive orientation and on-going training throughout the summer. We train our staff in critical skills such us lifeguarding, first aid, program safety and teaching skills. Most importantly, we know kids and share that knowledge with our staff. We know how to help kids develop into stronger, more independent people. We train our staff to work with campers who are sporty, who are creative, who are motivated, who need a confidence boost, and who have other individual needs. We strive to ensure that our counselors get to know each camper as an individual, help them set and achieve personal goals and be successful at camp and in life!

Our community is based on the YMCA pillars of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsiblity. We use these words in our groups, at meals in the Dining Hall, and throughout the day.

OUR PROMISE Your child will be our #1 priority. Everything we do, every decision we make, has your child’s safety and wellbeing in mind.

We believe that all children should have a Hazen experience, regardless of ability to pay. Camp Hazen YMCA has instituted a voluntary 4-tier pricing program for our Summer Programs. For more information call our office, or go to our website.

STAFF - We carefully select our staff from colleges and universities around the United States, as well as from around the world. The staff are enthusiastic, welltrained, mature, and intelligent. They are excellent role models for children, chosen for their ability to create a warm, caring, and diverse community for kids. Overall we maintain a 1:6 staff to camper ratio. The administration of Camp Hazen is comprised of full-time YMCA professionals who are dedicated to the philosophy of Camp Hazen and who share a deep commitment to the development of youth.

THE GROUPS Campers are grouped with children in a similar grade. Each group has their own counselor who leads them through the day’s activities, and ensures that each camper is getting the most out of their camp experience. Younger campers have 7-9 in a group, older groups are slightly larger. In addition, we have program staff that help lead activities; our overall camper to staff ratio is 1 to 6.

THE ACTIVITIES Every day is different, with countless activities in each of our four program areas: Creative Arts, Land Sports, Water Sports and Outdoor Pursuits. As campers get older, the program grows with them, offering more activities and more choice.
