Where youth belong and grow strong At Camp Tanadoona we understand and value this important time when youth are gaining a sense of who they are and who they want to be. That is why we give youth the opportunity to flourish with hands-on outdoor experiences that awaken their senses, curiosity and desire to learn. Building friendships, succeeding at new adventures, feeling the encouragement of a community that cares about each other - these are the experiences that make Camp Tanadoona a place where youth build their caring and confidence to become future leaders.
Suburban Location, Northwoods Feel:
Just minutes from the Twin Cities, Tanadoona is nestled between Chanhassen and Excelsior, MN. In 1924, when Camp Tanadoona was originally established, it had been the rural retreat home of former Minnesota Governor, John Lind. Now, even as this area has changed from rural to suburban, our camp retains its rustic charm.
Staff Who Put Kids First:
We employ only the most dedicated adults to be part of our team. Working to encourage each child’s unique strengths, our staff bring a caring and enthusiasm that boosts the self-confidence of our campers. All our staff members undergo a background check and intensive training before camp begins, as well as ongoing support during the camp season.

Applying for Camperships - Financial Assistance
Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council provides financial assistance to families to help them attend camp. We ask families to apply early and contribute as much as possible to their child’s camp fees. Applications for camperships are available online or by calling (612) 285-6244.
Donating to the Campership Fund
Camp Fire's campership fund helpf more youth benefit from Camp Fire's powerful outdoor camp experiences. Camp families can donate to this fund using the registration form. Donations are tax deductible. Thank you for helping more youth have the chance for positive outdoor experiences.
Campers may request one friend to share a cabin with at camp. This cabin mate should be the same age* and gender. Each day, campers move between groups for different activities. This helps everyone get to know each other. If registering for multiple sessions with different buddies, please indicate the week for each buddy.
Buddy Requests for Day Camp
Campers may request one friend to be paired with at camp. This buddy should be the same age* and registered for the same session (i.e. Week A-Day Camp Plus: Explorers). Buddies spend most of the day together. We ask that you only request one buddy; having more than one can disrupt the group dynamics and lead to children feeling left out. If registering for multiple sessions with different buddies, please indicate the week for each buddy.
* Special arrangements can be made. Please contact the camp director at (952) 474-
8085 for further information.
Camp Store Policies
All campers will have the opportunity to purchase snacks and souvenirs from the camp store. Items available include Tanadoona gear, stuffed animals, freezy pops, drinks and other snacks. Campers will be able to visit the camp store each day. Parents/guardians may deposit any amount in their child’s camp store account during registration or camper check-in. If necessary, parents should submit any special instructions for the account to Camp Fire in writing prior to or during check-in. What families Say About Tanadoona... “This was the best activity of the summer for my daughter. She absolutely loved it and wants to be a camp counselor herself when she is older!" “My son loved your camp. From the first day he wanted to make sure we'd sign him up for next year. The entire staff was so helpful and kind, we felt like we were with family." "Wonderful... everything you dream a summer camp to be!"
"My boys have been to 2 other camps in our area. Tanadoona blew away the others. In the car driving home from camp they could not stop talking about what a great time they had! I can't wait to send them again!!!" “Your energetic, caring and fun camp counselors really make a difference! My kids learned independence and enjoyed being a kid without parents for a week and a night!” “My son gets so much out of his experiences and I know he is safe and happy here. He can't wait to come back again! I also greatly appreciate the experience he gains from having counselors from other countries."
