Aggies hope to bounce back at home Series Information

The Aggies are 7-17 against the Zias overall. Last season each team won their respected home games against each other. When ENMU came to Lawton, the Aggies used a big second half to overcome a four point halftime lead by the Zias, and won 59-47. When CU went to Portales, the Zias jumped off to another halftime lead. But, like the previous game, Cameron outscored ENMU in the second half. This time though, CU tied the game and sent it into overtime. Eastern New Mexico controlled the extra frame and won the game 72-64, despite Alexis Williams putting up her career high 29 points in the game.

Aggies get out-shot against WT

Cameron kept the turnovers down but could not keep up with the lights out shooting of the Lady buffs. CU lost 45-70, in Canyon. West Texas A&M shot 66.7% from the field and 33.3% from behind the arc and had two players with over 10 points at halftime. The Aggies shot a cold 16.1% from the field and were 2-13 from behind the arc in the first half. Cameron converted 80% of their free throws and were winning the turnover battle with four, compared to WT’s five. CU did shoot better in the second half, with 36% from the field and 35.7% from three. This totaled with the first half shooting gave them 25% from the field, 25.9% from behind the arc, and 76.9% from behind the charity stripe. Cameron did a good job keeping the turnovers down in the first half with only four, but gave up 15 in the second half to end the game with 19, which resulted in 24 WT points off turnovers.

Up Next for Cameron

The Aggies will head to Florida next week as they compete in the Palm Beach Atlantic Pre-Christmas Tournament. Cameron will take on Lynn University on the 17th and Palm Beach Atlantic on the 19th. Both games will be at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

Tom Webb

Head Coach | Fifth Season |Southwest MN State

The 2012-13 season will be head coach Tom Webb’s fifth as the leader of the Aggie women’s basketball team. Webb has lead CU to a nine-win improvement since taking over in April of 2008 and led the Aggies to their first Lone Star Conference Tournament birth in five seasons in 2012. In each of the four previous seasons Webb has built the CU women’s basketball program as steps to success. The 2011-12 season was historic for Aggies which won 11 Lone Star Conference games (a program record), saw a winning streak of 10 games, and had the LSC Player of the Year-Sabelle Diata and LSC Newcomer of the Year-Julie Paunovic. In his four seasons as head coach, Webb has signed four student-athletes who were named all-state in Oklahoma and Texas. Webb was previously the associate head women’s basketball coach at Eastern Washington University starting in the 2004-2005 season. He started out as the assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach. Eastern Washington University is an NCAA Division I institution, competing in the Big Sky Conference. At EWU Webb also served as the recruiting coordinator and oversaw the post players. Four of his post players attained All-Conference honors and one went on to play professional basketball in Europe. Webb’s emphasis is on defense and rebounding, although he was in charge of communicating the offensive and defensive philosophies throughout each practice at EWU. Webb also oversaw all facets of game preparation, developed scouting reports, and prepared game plans for each match-up. Additionally, Webb was in charge of pre- and post- game film breakdown. Coach Webb is also a gifted coach off the court and in the classroom. While at EWU, his team finished with the third-highest GPA (3.46) in the nation among Division I women’s basketball programs. Prior to EWU, Webb was the head women’s basketball coach for the Northwest College (Powell, WY) Trappers. At Northwest he led the team to a 94-32 overall record and posted a school record for wins in back-toback seasons. His record of 94-32 (75%) is the highest winning percentage in school history. Webb also was named the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference (WCCAC) Coach of the Year, and won two WCCAC Championships. His team’s 86 points per game average is still the highest season average in school history. The Trappers also won the 2003 National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) academic championship with a team GPA of 3.56, the highest in the entire nation. As Northwest College’s head coach, Webb coached four All-Americans and twelve Academic All-Americans. He has also coached eight All-Region players and five All-Tournament players. Throughout his career Webb has learned from two Hall of Fame coaching legends in Don Meyer (Northern State) and Ken Rochlitz (Northwest College). Webb attained his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State and completed his master’s degree in teaching and learning from Northern State. Coach Webb currently lives in Lawton with his wife Gina Webb and their son Jackson.
