Series Information

Last year, Cameron opened their 2011-12 campaign to an 84-61 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle in Goodville, Okla. Milton Garner and Devon Crabtree both led the Aggies with 18 points, with Vinicius Telo not far behind with 15. This will be the fifth straight year Cameron has faced Oklahoma Panhandle under Head Coach Wade Alexander and he is a perfect 4-0 against the OK Aggies. In program history the series started in the 1968-69 with a (who won) and Cameron leads the overall series 20-9.

Last time out for Cameron

Cameron fell to NCAA Division I opponent North Texas 78-49 in an exhibition game at The Super Pit in Denton, Texas. The Aggies kept the game tight for ten minutes but the Mean Green opened up an offensive attack that lasted through the 12 minute mark in the second half with Cameron trailing as far back as 40 points. Junior Assad Robinson provided a spark off of the Aggie bench hitting a pair of 3s late in the game cutting back the Mean Green lead to less than 30 points. Robinson led all scorers with 20 points and led the Aggies with steals with 3 and tied with Craig Foster for assists with 2. Also, Rudy Harrell grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

OK Aggies at a Glance

Oklahoma Panhandle enters Tuesday’s game with Cameron with a 2-2 record going 1-2 in the Alaska-Fairbanks Tournament. OPSU beat Cal State Monterey Bay on Nov. 17 with a score of 92-77. In their two losses the OK Aggies averaged only 54 points to Colorado Christian and UA-Fairbanks. The OK Aggies other win came on their home court against Barclay College racking up a 143-63 win. Through four games this season the OK Aggies are averaging 85.75 points while holding their opponents to 71.75 points. Last season OPSU went 3-23 and are led by Jerry Olson, who was a former assistant under Mick Durham at Montana State.

The Aggies will take Thanksgiving as an opportunity to play additional games playing McMurry and Bacone on Nov. 23-24 in the Kingsville Classic before playing at Texas A&M Kingsville on Nov. 28 to open the LSC season.

Aggies picked fifth in LSC Preseason Poll

The Cameron University men’s basketball team was picked fifth in the 2012 Lone Star Conference Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll. The league’s preseason polls reflect the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region. Last season the Aggies finished in fifth in the LSC with an 10-8 conference record and an overall record of 15-11. Tarleton edged Midwestern State for the No. 1 spot by seven points, as both teams earned 12 first-place votes each, for totals of 269 and 262, respectively. The Texans and Mustangs shared last year’s championship with identical 15-3 league records. West Texas A&M was third with 246 points and four top votes, Incarnate Word fourth (166), and Cameron fifth (139). Texas A&M-Kingsville was sixth (130), Abilene Christian seventh (112), Angelo State eighth (95 and one first-place vote), Texas A&M-Commerce ninth (91) and Eastern New Mexico tenth (85).

the helm of the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball coach.

In the 2011-12 season Alexander guided the Aggie men to their second winning season in a row and won their first post-season game since 1993 in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The program also had the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball player of the year, Milton Garner who also was named to the 2012 Reece’s Division II All-Star Game. Prior to coaching at CU, Alexander was the assistant men’s basketball coach at East Central University.

In just his first season, Alexander ended an 11-year postseason drought and took the Aggie men to the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament. CU had not been to the postseason since the 1997-1998 season. Alexander was awarded Lone Star Conference and Cameron University Coach of the Year honors for his successful efforts. Alexander served as the assistant men’s basketball coach under head coach Terry Shannon at East Central University from 2005-2008. While at ECU he helped lead the Tigers to a third-place finish in the LSC after the 2005-2006 season, and was instrumental in the development of seven LSC All-Conference players. He also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator under head coach Terry Shannon and was responsible for all of the administrative duties. Prior to ECU, Alexander was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (Kingsville, TX), another fellow Lone Star Conference school. While on the Javelina coaching staff under head coach Pete Peterson, Alexander helped to guide the squad to a third-place finish in the LSC after the 2004-2005 season. He also was instrumental in TAMUK’s #10 regional ranking that year. Alexander started his coaching career at Bacone College (Muskogee, OK) as the assistant men’s basketball coach and head men’s and women’s golf coach. With the Warriors and under head coach Alan Foster, Alexander helped lead the team to a second-place finish in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) after the 2003-2004 season. Like at ECU and TAMUK, Alexander was the recruiting coordinator at Bacone College. In Alexander’s eight years of coaching experience he as had a total of 16 all-conference players and 14 players go on to the professional ranks. He has also coached 14 student-athletes to an all-conference honor. Alexander received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science degree from East Central in May of 2001. He then stayed at ECU to achieve his Master’s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis on Sports Administration in December of 2002. The Marlow, Okla., native is married to the former Dana Williams of Comanche, Okla., and the couple has a daughter named Addison.

Nate Gamet

Assistant Coach Fifth Season Northwest Missouri State

Nate Gamet is entering his fifth season as the assistant coach of Cameron’s men’s basketball team. He was hired by Head Coach Wade Alexander in early August of 2008. In his time at Cameron, Gamet has helped coach five all-conference players. Former Aggie standout Kallan Glasgow shined under Gamet receiving the NABC Honor Court award. The team also had a grade point average of over 3.0 in 2009-10.

Gamet helped lead the Aggie men to their first postseason appearance in more than a decade during the 2008-2009 season, his first under eventual Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year Wade Alexander.

On top of his on-court coaching duties at Cameron, Gamet assists with film breakdown, scouting reports and recruiting. During his time at CU, he has had two players named First Team All-Conference, one named Second Team All-Conference, and five receive Honorable Men tion conference honors. Additionally, two players earned Freshman of the Year conference honors, one earned National Freshman of the Year honors, and three players earned All-Conference Academic honors.

Gamet came to CU from Northwest Missouri State University where he spent the last five years as an assistant coach. During his tenure with the Bearcats, Gamet helped lead the team to three Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championships and one regional championship. He also received his graduate degree in Athletic Administration from NMSU. Throughout his career at NMSU, Gamet coached two All-Americans, two MIAA Players of the Year, one Freshman of the Year, five All-Conference players and two AllRegion players. He also helped lead the Bearcat squad to a conference and two tournament championships, as well as a regional championship. Originally from Princeton, Missouri, Gamet lives in Lawton with his wife Katrina and baby girl Alexis. His hobbies include family, friends, golf, and other outdoor activities. He attained his undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State.
