Step By Step.

!

To be conscious of whats beneath your feet, In a bright light house a child fears whats beneath. As he walks down the stairs, behind his mother’s care, It’s as if all of the darkened spirits disappear into thin air. When she looks for decorations, or father checks the heater, The child won’t fear the cellar, he’s secure for a quick breather.

!

But left to himself alone in the dark, He feels the touch, the fear leaves a mark. Little does the darkness let him see, The invisible essence of a beastly creation, Resides only within the boys imagination. As his rational creeps in with age, The boy has learned that he is the mage.

!

Now to move into this basement lair, And face a false demon without a care. Conquering his own minds belief, Sleeping in the darkness now brings relief. To be conscious of whats beneath your feet. The boy who was once scared, is who you’ll meet.

Doorways

Here she comes, I thought to myself. Watching as the glass door swings open and a form doing a half turn through the gap in the house pulls the steel door shut behind her. As she exits, the glass door closes and she is outside. She walks to the car just as anyone would. We catch eyes and both smile and laugh as we can’t speak just yet. I have seen this before and I know what will happen. This lovely being about to get into my car. How lucky am I? As she opens the door, everything slows down. The moments before a car crash seem to take an eternity, everything slows down. Though this was beautiful and getting hit would make me feel alive. She sits down in the passenger seat, again closing another steel door behind her, with glass halfway up. We begin with words, that ignite a spark and soon we are burning with conversation and a fire is raging. Before we even leave the driveway we are gone. We always have so much to say, we always bring so much for each other. Before we even leave the driveway, a tear breaks. With little to say about this, the tears continue to flow and could fill a bucket. The car becomes quieter, as if the tears had been poured onto our fire. After an eternity in a second, she tells me. “I’m pregnant!” As the words leave her lips, and her mouth closes for safety, everything falls away, and only we remain, in silence. A new door opens.

Dognity

!

Tune out the dog barking, forgive his disruption Leave him outside for now, but love him forever. He is more than you can know, for he is his own, And he brought with him a lesson, in humanity.

!

While you clean up his messes, he stands tall as the animal, He trots around with his head held high, not looking back. Although humans are more organized, clean, This dog still has his dignity.

!

The same place everyday, the same people, and things He does not move toward more, or less. He simply is a dog. A being, who is being. He is being himself, and doing it with charm and grace.

!

All the things people do with their two hands, Dogs never do with their four legs. They just keep on walking forward, With ease they keep walking forward.

!! Solitude !

If left to oneself and ones own devices, He will try to fly but only grip his vices. For a single brain alone in the dark, Will loop disdain and try to make a mark.

!

To exercise being alone is the soul’s might, and solitude is bliss; oneself in the light. Leaving behind guests, letting go of identity, The current of creation is silent in serenity.

!

While isolation forthright is hard to see, Don’t raise up walls, they’ll fill with anxiety. In the quiet space of the lonely head, Come thoughts.

! Light as air, and heavy as lead. !

Callipso Crisis

April 13 - I have been amongst a number of dierent species of New World monkeys throughout my expeditions into the Amazon Rainforest of South America. Among these, the most common have been Marmosets, Capuchins, Owl Monkeys, Sakis, and Howler monkeys, as well as a few breed of Gorilla, although they are harder to observe. I arrived here in early March and have come to the peak of the mating season, as well as the fruiting season.

!9

!

April 28 - After recording the breeds I have come across I have come to notice a strange phenomenon with isolated members of each class of monkey. Typically these monkeys form into nuclear family type groups, not unlike contemporary humans. Every breed I can find have single monkeys who live and hunt alone, never interacting with other monkeys, and always with a home away from the habitat of the fellow monkeys. For weeks I would watch these monkeys alone, and they would always stay out of the way of other animals, especially other primates. One Capuchin in particular has provided the most clear example of this solitude. I named him Callipso and decided to focus my time and concentration on this little being, alone in a tree.

!

May 3 - In the past few days I have watched Callipso gather a collection of nuts, fruits and leaves. He would gather these things all day, and just bring some back and find resting places on trees, and go o again for more. By my measurements he would gather more food than the little monkey could consume, and from that little piles would start to build up beneath his tree from the fallen food. This capuchin had the most diligent gathering abilities I had seen out of any monkey within the forest, and seemed afraid of the animals around him.

!

Before sundown I had scoured the area and found it to be mostly surrounded by water, mostly large running streams, I myself had to use rocks to get across. I noticed a group oh howler monkeys jumping along vines in the direction of Callipso and before long it seems he notices because he starts screaming and devouring food, while lunging at the monkeys coming through. The whole ordeal lasted about fifteen minutes, until finally the monkeys were gone.

!

May 14 - The temperature and humidity have risen, and the rainfall has increased. It has become harder to access Callipso’s private island. Approaching the running streams that surround the island I notice loose food and leaves washing away downstream.

!

May 24- It is drier today so I decide to visit the Capuchin. He is quietly bouncing around the trees and seems disoriented. A few minutes into this visit he starts screaming much like a few days before when invaders were present. I hide myself behind a bush so that I can observe the fit without getting noticed. Next thing I know I get smacked in the head, and piles of old nuts and bitter berries land around me. Picking a pile of my head I notice the food has gone bad, and after another hour of the monkey screaming, he exhausts himself and falls asleep among the highest branches.

!

June 10 - While observing a pack of gorillas something happened. The gorillas live in herds, and many of them hunted and gathered while others would stay back to watch the young. One day after they had all returned and had distributed food, there is a scream and out of nowhere comes a little capuchin monkey jetting through the forest canopy and falling straight in the middle of the gorillas and lunges after their food. He is quickly apprehended by the tail, and the gorillas start roaring. By god my heart stopped and in a second I uncover myself and scream at the top of my lungs, “Callipso! The gorillas stop and turn, and the little monkey is dropped, and after realizing what I had done, I quickly escape and hide in a tree house, trying to recover from a near heart attack at the hands of my own primitive instinct.

!

June 15 - After a few days of solitude myself, I visit the monkey again and hear more screams, not agonizing, but

!11

playful ones. There were two other capuchins today and Callipso had collected more fresh food, and they were all jumping around trees and screaming in delight. I was glad to see the monkey was alive, and after his near death experience among a family of gorillas I guess its true, monkey see, monkey do.

!

June 21 - I have visited the capuchin monkeys everyday this week and have seen them collecting food, and sharing it for the day, and have also noticed them drying berries and using rocks to break them open.

!

July 1 - I am feeling ill today, I am still not used to the weather and heat in this forest, and am heading back home to a colder climate and to visit my family, my time in the forest has been fascinating and I will miss little Callipso. On a final note, I had visited him again before my departure and have even noticed a fourth Capuchin join the party in the trees, and with enough food for the monkeys, and enough monkeys to eat the food it seems Callipso found his place among the Capuchins. Much like I will, but somewhere colder, and without any mosquitos.

Oh Dreamer. Ode to Sleep.

!

Here is to no sleep, when you can’t sleep anyways. The truth is, I think... Maybe I think to much. Or maybe not enough, and... I am a thought away from sleep. It’s one of those nights In which time is just beyond the door. The confinement of a room can feel, Absolute, yet we still dream of more.

!

Here is to dreaming, while you are awake. And staying awake while you are dreaming! Listen to the phrase, “Dream is Destiny.” If you can control your dreams, Certainly you can control your destiny.

!

Here is to waking mid dream! And descending back into the dream slip-stream. Can’t quite find the words for that world, I can say I was there, but I might be lying. But maybe, just maybe you can feel What I have felt, in a dream.

!

Here is to the morning after a good sleep. We wonder about our heads. As the memories of the secondary death Slip away, perhaps to real for reality Just waiting until we lay our heads down once more, And we remember.

Something New. While the crowd bustles, Russel storms through the halls in his tin foil hat. Catching all eyes, they all cover their faces and needing an outlet they turn to their phones and text. After the intitial reaction of OMG, they transcribe their laughter into text with numerous lol’s. They remained silent though, because Russel can hear you. They keep quiet, and never ask whats beneath that tin foil hat. Perhaps he is like a vanilla muďŹƒn top emerging from a baking pan, only to pull it out and reveal a chocolate foundation, and icing in the middle... How Wonderful! Or maybe like the titanic, or perhaps the ice burg that night. Small and visible on top, deep and dark down below. These people who laugh at Russel only observe what they can see, without digging or looking any deeper. Perhaps they are afraid of drowning. While it seems to be a pleasure to the eye, it is mind candy to Russel to walk around his home, amongst so many aliens.

Ultrasound

! !

The screen was black and white when we saw you, In a dark room with beauty inside the beautiful. And we saw the four chambers of love, your love. And arms flailing, and legs kicking, and so small. We hear the rapid heartbeat, and ours races, as if to catch up. Our excitement grows, and grows as you do. And the sign of the sex can bring more to guess, with the voice of reason guessing the season. With the thoughts of the future, the hopes to come. And the fears and the boundaries to overcome. We are here to be a part every step in the way, And to see you oh, beautiful soul Go forth and play. The screen was black and white when we saw you, And the world was watching, and waiting for you.

The City On The Hill I once knew a man, with a crooked smile, He lived in a van, had a wicked style. He played me the blues, told me of the dead, When I tried to use, he got inside my head.

!

And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, And up comes the devil to impart his will. And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, But up comes the devil to do what he will.

!

He spoke to me soft, but quickly said “Hey.” You’ll get what you want, but you’ll do it my way. Learn from the master, to awe and strike fear. He said, “Listen son, and play this guitar here!”

!

And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, And up comes the devil to impart his will. And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, But up comes the devil to do what he will.

!

He gave me his hands, and a pick and a six. Told me of the land, said he had no tricks. Then he laughed for a bit, and flew as a finch. I was a little lit, but I’ve been playing since!

!

And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, And up comes the devil to impart his will. And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, But up comes the devil to do what he will. And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, The devils in the city on the hill. And I was sittin’ back on top of the hill, Just uh sittin’ back on top of the hill...

Imagination, Your Imagination!

!

Imagine if you will, being able to reach into your pocket to pull out your imagination. You could actually keep it anywhere, just imagine. You can pull out this power, this power of imagination! Now it’s not just any old imagination, it is your imagination. You always have it, and its always going to be there in your pocket, or wherever you decided to keep it. Here your imagination can bring you anything and everything, or nothing. All you desire, and all you wish to avoid reside within your imagination. Imagine solving issues, or perhaps traveling. Imagine people, or perhaps something you need or something you have been working toward. Just imagine it first, and the rest will follow. Pull it out anytime you need it, or even just check your imagination to make sure it is still there. But, remember others have an imagination too! Not yours, but theirs. This is where things can get tricky. As you may have imagined by now, there are plenty of other folks who are using their imagination in their life, for whatever they need or comes their way. We are all imagining things all the time. Each person has a unique life, so we must all us our own imaginations to help ourselves and the people around us. The thing is though, with all these imaginations, you might see something, or be shown an idea that looks a lot like something you’ve imagined. You may like something you see, and think that it is yours, and you make take up someone else’s imagination before your own. This is all nice and cheery, and it is always great to share. You may start collecting to much from the imaginations of others, and this may make you forget… One day you may find, your pockets full of things you don’t need, and really don’t even recognize anymore. And sure the more you have, the more there is to show. But in reality there is no more room for you to grow. And when

!19

trouble shows its face, all that stuff can’t help solve the case. So let it go, and imagine. With so much stuff to hold onto, there is no space left to hold that imagination in your pocket, and it gets buried and forgotten. So give up what you don’t need, clear out the space, and just Imagine. Just Imagine.

Pizza Lover

!

10 O’clock, I run to the door and pull the ripcord of the open sign to save me. My parachute is closing, closing the store. I count the money in the drawer with apprehension and a feeling in my hands that I am fooling with the devil. I feel, like always that today is the day I screwed up the drawer. Maybe I lost money, or shortchanged a customer, or maybe someone had taken something… Alas! All is correct. Then by this time I have gathered the garbage from a long day. I must walk you out grey bin, for you have lost your animation, or perhaps you were never alive at all. All this used up, and finished, now to be forgotten until picked at by birds and raccoons, and maybe even that black cat always sneaking around. Then comes you, oh final scare. You were left for someone’s hunger, yet they were not there. Now what? You call me to you, and I touch you. What a waste. I can’t take you home, I can’t eat you or even make you. Perhaps I would try to cook this, yet the ovens are already turning off, they are letting off their steam from a long day. Yet I can feel you, so cold and so firm. I want to stick you back in the fridge, and preserve you, but I cannot for that would not be appropriate in the eyes of your owner, who is so remote, who will forget you. I can see you, off white, almost the color of my skin, we nearly match. Perfectly round as if drawn with the compass of a mathematician. Yet you are edible, or can be, or at least should be. What a shame for you to go. Had I dressed you, and made you presentable perhaps someone else would have their eye on you, not only myself. Had I given you warmth and a place to stay until someone came to purchase your greasy goodness. Had I waited for you, pizza to be, in all your doughy innocence to rise with time, you could have been fulfilling. Yet it is time to close this store. It is time to say goodbye.

You Just Let Those Birds Sing

!

You have made your roots in your home town, Connected to the world, you already settle down. You speak not a word nor make a sound, But you let the wind push you around.

!

If a bird landed on my shoulder, I would probably jump and scream, But you my friend, sti as a boulder You just listen, as those birds sing.

!

One big body to hold you down, A dozen arms o of the ground. One hundred fingers up in the air, A hand of Earth, peaceful in prayer.

!

I see you reaching for the heavens And you are closer than I, I am only five foot eleven You rise from dirt to break the sky

!

You hold yourself up, and face the sun With your emerald face, you are never done. Your function and form, takes my breath away, Until you return it, allowing me to stay.

!

I am beginning to think you brought me here For a reality unknown unless on high. But I can feel it in the air my dear, And I can see it in my eye.

!

If a bird Landed on my shoulder, I would jump and scream. But you, not you. You just let those birds sing.

Earthien Sonnet

!

Oh, now but a pale blue dot are you, In the bleak blackness of cosmic abyss You have a fiery heart keeping you true, Until the air breaks and the skies do kiss. You hang in the dark by just a thin thread, As the patient spider seeks your sphere. You dip and turn always one step ahead, As he waits for sweet summer to near. But you are my home on a winter night, And my mother even when she has passed. You are my eyes and even so, my might, You are everything you will outlast. For if I reside in you, you are in me; That you are, together, all we can be.

Digital Days

“Time of death for the body reads 12:15 p.m.” “Keep him plugged in just a little longer, we are still getting some delta waves.” The doctor holds his patience. “Perhaps the connection isn’t complete, we may lose another one.” I lose my patience. “No, wait. this is different, there hasn’t been a lapse in brain activity.” After five more minutes of watching the computer screen a window flashes up that reads, upload complete. “Lets flip the final firewall and let him through to the mindframe.” The doctor stands eminently with his hands behind his back. I walk over to the external mindframe and open up the interface and boot up the program for his virtual senses. Within a minute we hear the patients voice over the intercom. “Hello? Where am I...?” “In our servers.” The doctor explains “Your What! Servers? Servers!” “Yes our serv..” “Your servers?! A computer server?” The patient continuously interrupts the doctor as he is presenting the situation to his patient. “Last thing I remember was a bridge, and swerve...” “Yes! Oh you were in a bad accident, a 125 foot bridge.” The doctor looks at me with angst. The doctor whispers, “We saved you.” “Wait, am I dead...?” The patient asks shyly. The doctor laughs, “Well no of course not, your body is, but you, yourself, no you are just fine!” “Well I don’t feel fine!” The patient sounds more and more hysteric, which builds my anxiety. The doctor senses the uneasiness and trys to sympathize. “What do you feel?” The patient is silent for a few minutes, then. “Well I don’t really feel anything... Where my body is.”

!27

The doctor exclaims, “No body! Then you mustn’t feel not fine, right? No physical ailment can bring you pain with no body!” “What...” Why am I here, where am I? Im not some computer file.” The patient begins to demand answers. Here I am as the doctors assistant with those answers. “Remember your license? On the back it says you are an organ donor.” Quickly the patient retorts. “What about my organs? Did you take them? I need those to live! You did say I wasn’t dead!” The doctor hastens, “No no! your body has ceased to function, you won’t need those organs anymore. Your brain however, was still intact and active after the crash.” The patient screams, “What crash! That wasn’t real!” “Please relax, you are still here, and still real. We managed to keep your brain artificially alive until... “Until what? The patient again interrupting. The doctor continues, “Until we needed to operate, a brain can only last so long without the body to supply oxygen. We were able to use a new technology that I have been working on. It essentially downloads your brain structure. By retaining the entire form of your brain, we can maintain the original consciousness, virtually.” “So my brain is gone too?” “Well no, it’s digital, no longer physical, in a sense we retained your spirit, and uploaded it to this new body. This computer mindframe.” The patient pauses, laughs and then whispers. “This is a dream, there is no technology to do this, why would you want to do this? This can not be real.” The doctor sighs and asks the patient, “What do you see.?” “What?” “Do you see anything?” the doctor asks patiently. “Well no, I can only hear you.”

“Ah-hah!” The doctor seems to remember something and reaches under the screen and flips a switch that turns on a set of cameras. “How about now?” The patient is quiet, and we begin to see the cameras moving side to side. “Try up and down now” The doctor smiles. After a few moments of still cameras the patient speaks again, “Who are you two?” “Well I am doctor Supra, and this is my assistant Salvador.” I look toward the cameras and begin to wave. “Hello James.” “Hello...” The patient replies and then reigns silent. “Do you have any questions?” The doctor waits for a reply. “Not now, not right now, I don’t believe this.” James whispers inaudibly to himself, and I turn and look at the doctor. “Well we need to run some test and make a few calls, we will be back in about twenty minutes.” The doctor turns without looking for anymore questions and begins walking out the door. I stand in the room alone, with James in the computer I look toward the cameras. “I know this is a lot to take in, but we will leave you alone for a bit to absorb. See it is a newborn body, with your original mind. There is extreme potential in this machine, and now you are the sole operator. The first of your kind, in the world.” I know he hears, but there is no reply. So, I walk slowly as I leave the room and close the steel door shut behind me.

The Forgotten Race

!

There is a race, that lives beneath the Earth. Unseen by the human eye, leaving us unaware. Yet they have their own spirit, and the internet. But it is an organic web, with no computers. Only a true connection between one another. Perhaps we should meet these wonders. There are the ones who nourish, who are good. There are those who consume, who are okay. There are those, who poison, those who destroy. There are those who make you feel funny. There are those who can make you feel, connected. And those who are colorful. Those who are dark. There are many that are simply fun guys. Yet they are all connected. They communicate in the dark, And stick but a finger into our world, To see who is biting today.

!31

Pseudo-peace

!

This guy I know, He started to kill the pain. What pain I thought, As the devil whispered in his ear.

!

He sleeps until high noon, With an animal on his chest.

!

He started speaking softly, Of seduction, and suering. Hard words, and feelings, strong feelings. Fleeting feelings that drop, Feelings that drop you fast.

!

If you have ever felt a waterfall, Or the swiftness of its current With the force of gravity, There it is. Before you know, Before you know it You are falling, free falling!

!

No control, but a peace. A temporal peace.

!

Then you crash into the lake below. Then you crash into rocks below. And break a leg in the fall, And a gulp of water, leaves you choking.

Street Folly

“You ready to leave? He’s probably there by now.” Molly looks at Francis and he runs into his room and grabs a bag, and a smoke. “How do you know this guy?” Francis asks again. “Went to high school with em’ he’s a cool guy. We’ve helped each other out in the past, theres mutual trust goin on.” Molly wants to reassure Francis. “Alright, Ive just never done this.” Molly laughs, “I do it all the time! It’s easy work, free scores, and a rush!” So they begin to walk to the car together, Molly gets onto her phone and looks for a name and makes a call. Francis can hear her faintly saying to someone they are on their way. “Is this place far?” Francis has alot of questions. His hands begin to shake as his mind wanders and his stress increases. “Francis, just let me take care of this, you can even stay in the car.” Molly remains cool and confident as they drive closer. “What are we going to do afterwords, do you want to go out to eat.?” Francis is trying to calm himself down. Molly just remains focused. “We are hear.” Molly smiles and looks at Francis. “Where is he...? Well, maybe we should just go back, I don’t see him.” “No he’s here.” Molly exclaims. “See that car? Pull up a house before him and I will get out and walk.” So, Francis pulls up, parks, and unlocks the doors. “Be right back!” Molly eagerly jumps from the car, then as she walks slows down to a casual pace. Francis watches her as she reaches the car and turns to face the drivers window. The glass begins to slide down. Before it totally opens Francis sees a car coming down the street. He lights up his cigarette and rolls down his window. “Hurry up, we need to get out of

!33

here!” Francis yells to Molly but she just turns and smiles and then turns back to the window. The car coming down the street passes and Francis takes a drag of his smoke. At that time a hand from the car Molly was by emerges. Molly lowers her head into the window and begins talking to the driver. She pulls the bag Francis had earlier and places it into the lone hand sticking out the window. Francis looks down and rubs his eyes at the sight. A scream from Molly, then screeching tires cause Francis to jump in his chair and look back up. The car Molly was standing by is speeding off now and Molly is not where she was. Francis puts his car into drive and begins to follow the other car. When suddenly they make a U-turn in the street and Francis sees her. There she is in the street, not moving, with her close and skin torn up her stomach and legs where she was dragged by the car. The car drives past Francis on the other side and a passenger in the back has a gun to the glass of the window. The driver waves and leaves Francis and Molly behind. He screams, “Molly! Molly...” He gets out of the car and runs into the middle of the street. He screams again, “Molly!” He tries to hold her hand, but she doesn’t move. He sits with her for a moment before realizing she is bleeding on the street. Francis decides to put her in his car. He sits in silence for another moment, then he drives off.

A New Room

!

Take a look at the white washed door With a golden knob for hands. Open and closed for many more, Step through to explore new lands.

!

Books and a dog all on a shelf, Toiletries, and boxes below. So much to tell about a self, Expression is the way to go.

!

A map of the world shows you home, Observe the planet from your room. Enough to make one strive to roam, And enough to make one bloom.

!

A glowing rock brings me to see, Stripes and patchwork in a bed. Silver apple and a teevee, A gnome with a tiny head.

!

As the red is blue, blue is gray, and the border holds them true. Observed from me, for you today, A white washed door to go through.

!35

Nora the Redeemer

!

Show me the greenery of the day once again. Bare the flowers you bring your color to, That Ra carried through the underworld then Rose again in deliverance among you.

!

Show me that the skies are only endless. And that these clouds, they are only temporary. As you follow Apollo and help the world dress With his fiery horses oh bright fairy!

!

Show me your effect, but please hide yourself. My own mortal sight won’t perceive your plight, As you burn my skin, and hurt my eyes invisible elf, And give me your life, in the form of light!

!

Show me what you have seen for an eternity. With Jesus the son, the light as his spirit We can only wait as you rise with certainty And reveal the day to those who can’t hear it.

!

Show me your face and its gleaming rays. As Helios brings the sun above golden towers To hold all humans in a light touch and genuine praise, As you warm their bodies in glittering showers.

!

The savior of the night! what is your call this morning? You have a thousand names yet all are so true. Redeeming each day with your warm forewarning, Perhaps a word of light; Nora is what I’ll call you!

!

Please show me now, oh Nora the Redeemer. Your home the sun, and your mirror the moon. When you wander off at night I wonder, a dreamer. But I am not scared--for you will, come again soon.
