Where is the Youth Center Located? The Cambridge Youth Center is located at 211 South Street, in rooms 317 & 318 of the Nikolay Middle School. We are fortunate to be housed right in the middle school so students do not have to walk through town to attend.

The Youth Center is a drop-in program so youth can come late or leave early, depending on their individual schedules. However, youth are not allowed to come and go as they please. Once they sign out and leave, they may not be allowed back in. For example, parent permission is required in a situation where a student may need to leave for an appointment, then they may return.

Why Does Cambridge Need a Youth Center? Prevention! Middle school years are when youth develop habits, values, and friends that influence them for the rest of their lives. According to the Dane County Youth Assessment of 2012 of Cambridge students: •

12% of 7th & 8th graders have tried alcohol; by 9th grade 22% have drank alcohol.

5% of 7th & 8th graders have tried marijuana; by 9th grade 17% have tried marijuana.

5% of 7th & 8th graders have vandalized property while 6% of 9th graders have.

However, 31% of 7th & 8th graders also visit the Youth Center at least one day per week

Cambridge has a need, as shown by attendance. •

Attendance at the Youth Center averages over 30 youth daily.

Over 60% of the middle school population has attended the Youth Center at least once in a year.

Food for thought: Where would these kids be if the Youth Center was not open?
