Doctor Who: Next Doctor Announced

Doctor Who - Next Doctor Officially Announced!

Doctor Who, a show beloved by many, has lost popularity over time, especially at the arrival of the first female iteration of The Doctor as played by Jodie Whittaker. While Whittaker is a phenomenal actress and played the role very well, she unfortunately came to the show at a time of lackluster writing and a terrible attempt by directors to stray from their roots. This most notably occurred in Whittaker’s first season where writers focused too heavily on her companions and refused to allow The Doctor to encounter any of the well-loved enemies seen previously on the show.

Though the writers may have thought this a more interesting approach, many fans found it detrimental to the arrival of Whittaker, as without any classic Doctor Who-ness viewers had a difficult time truly seeing her as their beloved Time Lord. Luckily, after much outcry from long time fans, the writers listened to reason and began to reincorporate old characters and enemies into the show as Whittaker grew into her role, allowing her a much better chance to become loved by viewers. More recently it was announced that famed writer Russel T. Davies would be returning to write for the show, much to the delight of many as he was at the helm for the David Tennant era of the show, arguably one of the most popular Doctors across the series.

While fans have been debating if the return of Davies would also mean a return of fan favorite Tennant, the newest Doctor has officially been announced. The 14th Doctor will officially be played by Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa, best known for his role in Sex Education. Gatwa was reportedly honored to be chosen to play The Doctor, and many are excited to see what the BAFTA winner will bring to the role! 8
