Calgary Harvest Calgary Harvest is an organization dedicated to turning a fallen fruit problem into a local food solution by harvesting local fruit that would otherwise go unused. It is sponsored by the Permaculture Calgary Guild. Calgary Harvest started in 2009 with a single tree being harvested. 2010 was the first full harvest with over 100 trees harvested. Currently over 1500 trees are registered, though we are able to harvest only a fraction of that each year. The fruit is divided amongst the harvesters (all volunteers), home owners, Calgary Harvest and community groups, such as local food banks and shelters. There are numerous types of fruit grown locally in Calgary, including but not limited to, apples, pears, plums, cherries, berries and even a few apricots.
