ARTISAN VILLAGE WINTER 2014 TEAM: Katherine Herborn TUTOR: Corey Griffin

We imagined a half block family housing unite with a central alleyway courtyard to bring out often dark unfriendly circulation corridors to the exterior, thereby spurring community interaction and sense of place.

OPEN to the public the street level alleyway is lined with artisan live/work shops activating the space. Vertical circulation is via a central open staircase/elevators off of which community spaces are placed to further the opportunity for informal community interaction.

TACOMA ART SPAN FALL 2013 TEAM: Jennifer Rimorin TUTOR: Place Studio

We Reimagined the Tacoma Art District by creating a community centerpiece spanning Pacific Avenue and tying the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) with the Thea Foss Waterfront. Creating a bridge/building platform that offers an authentic art-centric economic development and curatorial programming opportunities for generations to enjoy.

TEATRO MILAGRO WINTER 2013 TUTOR: Juan Heredia

This project was a design for a new building for the miracle theater group to house and enhance there multi faceted program including a black box theater, Zocalo –gallery space as well as extensive supporting spaces. While trying to create something to speak to the Latino culture here in Portland.

SHIFTED within the near square constraints of the site the black box theater protrudes on one side creating triangular supporting spaces around the main theater. The shift is projected into the street intersecting the opposing grid of the city creating pedestrian connections and expanding the visual influence of the association

ENTRANCE to the theater space is on a series of stepped platforms moving up and into the black box through a tall narrow cut in the corner of the theater box. Gradually getting darker one symbolically passes through the “curtain of the theater.

OREGON BALLET THEATER SPRING 2013 TUTOR: Clive Knights

Tectonic expression was explored it the design of a studio addition for Oregon Ballet Theater. The space was imagined as a poetic art form of its own, expressing its function through form.

TRION COMMUNITY MILL FALL 2012 TUTOR Travis Bell

The design intent was to; create a complete water system for the site that creates a narrative of experiences, functioning with the site as a whole. The structure harnesses the power of the wind to irrigate the farm while creating a spatial experience of flow and movement.

WOODCRAFT Woodworking is something I have long enjoyed. There is a certain satisfaction that comes from seeing a project from the idea through completion. Allowing the process of making to inform the design in a way often not obtainable in contemporary architecture.

“Without craftsmanship inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the breeze.
