Pifer’s State champion Varsity Soccer team.

As you know, this academic year the CAK board and administration have shifted emphasis away from fund-raising “sales” and toward a more systematic Annual Fund. The feedback from parents and donors has been very positive. Below is a note from one CAK parent expressing their appreciation of the new approach to financial development.

“Green” Vendor Newest Company to Join CAK’s Percentage Mall Another great company has joined the ranks of those giving pay-backs to our school. Melaleuca offers chemical-free, biodegradable home products that are safe and effective, all at affordable prices. The company is now giving 5% back to CAK on all orders placed. Simply register for a purchasing account (similar to Sam’s Club) to participate. Call Susie Whitener (566-4477), Tina Sokolowski (8054389), or Cindy Johnson (693-8838) to “Go Green.” Looking for other businesses who give back to CAK? Purchases from Target, Kroger, and Land’s End benefit the school. Log on to and click “Supporting CAK, Other Ways to Give” for details.

Donate to CAK Online Visit and click “Donate Online” on the main page (or under the “Supporting CAK” tab) for credit card donations. Or contact Frank Merry at or (865) 690-4721, ext. 177 to make a gift with cash or check.

Quite an Artistic Bunch! Five CAK high school students were chosen to display their original artwork in East Tennessee’s student art exhibit (a juried show) at Knoxville Museum of Art. See their work in person at KMA through January 11, 2009.

Choosing a school for your children is one of the most important decisions a parent must make. For the parents of more than six million children, the choice is private education. Parents choose religious and independent schools for a variety of reasons: quality academics, a safe and orderly environment, moral and ethical values, caring teachers, supportive communities, and much more. At Christian Academy of Knoxville, a dually-accredited Pre-K through 12th institution, we want to make your education decisions easy. Contact us now for information on Fall 2009-2010 enrollment. Call Wanda Mullins at (865) 690-4721, ext. 190 or email wmullins@ to schedule a campus tour or request an admissions packet.

Students’ success will be enhanced by knowledge of the following: what to expect from each test session, how to avoid incorrect responses or misinterpretations, how to identify easiest questions, and how to maximize test time for as many correct answers as possible.

Mike Zaczyk Signs with University of Tennessee Swimming As recruiting season wraps up, the University of Tennessee swimming and diving program grabbed eight of the nation’s top recruits, including Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Mike Zaczyk. “We are all pretty excited about the future of Tennessee swimming and diving, particularly for these newest Volunteers,” says head coach John Trembley. CAK Senior Mike Zaczyk is a member of Knoxville’s Pilot Aquatic Club and trains with UT volunteer-assistant and former Vol swimmer Jim Rumbaugh. Though he has only been training for two and half years, he has developed into a strong middle distance freestyle swimmer. Zaczyk is expected to have a strong performance representing CAK in the Tennessee state high school meet in February. Zaczyk officially signed with UT on December 9.
