Renovate an 18 level luxury boutique hotel in a metropolitan area with a new concept and brand. Project Duration: 9 weeks Project Size: 29,000 SF Lobby Rendering

WHGI UTE E POI N T ST SUITES The guest rooms of White Point welcome patrons through rich tones of golds, navy, and deep browns, particularly through wood finishes, as well as an abundance of textures in materials and architecture. Rooms are divided to fit the needs of all visitors in rooms such as the and are well compensated for a luxurious experience. Deep colors of blues, wood tones, and golds envelope the guest rooms. A custom made wall covering designed to mimic the bark of the Live Southern Oak is present in all rooms. Details inspired by the architecture of Charleston are present in the crown molding and wall panels.

Solution: Design a functional space plan that provided areas for sales, merchandise, private space, and the kitchen. Selected materials and finishes that were within the limitations of a small business owner.

Design a restaurant in a specific country that features a concept inspired by cultural details from the country and seating for 300 guests. Project Duration: 4 weeks Project Size: 6,800 SF

Solution: Create a space inspired by the culture of Sweden. Develop a functional space plan that provides a variety of seating options for guests from the main dining room to the bar and lounge area.

Note: The Swedish people value the traditions passed down from their ancestors and regard family as an especially important part of their lifestyles. The hearth, which has always been a symbol of unity in the home, provides a focal point that brings warmth to the space and provides a place for families and friends to create new memories together.

The floorplan for this space creates many different seating options for guests to choose from. An open dining area with tables and chairs allows for a more social experience, while booths separated by semi-transparent resin partitions allow for a more intimate experience.

Work on an interdisciplinary team of architecture, building construction science, interior design, and graphic design students to develop a retail incubator space in downtown Starkville, MS. Project Duration: 2 weeks Project Size: 1,500 SF

This space can be broken up into sections with the use of moveable fixtures, allowing for a customizable space for each vendor. Wall partitions at the front of each space feature each vendor’s brand to designate their space.

Venture, Starkville’s newest retail incubator, is the spark that new business owners need to develop their investment and get their business off the ground. Vendors can come together with like-minded peers in an environment that is exciting for the producer and the consumer. Located in the heart of downtown Starkville, entrepreneurs can maximize their marketing opportunities by connecting with the community in a stimulating new environment. Spacious stalls that make the most of the ample wall space throughout the building create the ideal location for vendors to showcase their product. By utilizing the space that Venture provides, business owners can embark upon the path to expanding their investment to its full potential. Overall, the variety of retail spaces in Venture creates an adventure for both customers and producers.

Objective: Design a research based higher education space utilizing Steelcase products to create environments that cater to a variety of learning styles. Duration: 3 weeks Project Size: 10,685 SF

A large central hub and student café creates two different types of learning spaces: shared private and shared public. The shared public spaces are two project rooms separated by glass partitions to create a private atmosphere balanced with a touch of public space. The rock climbing wall in the back of the café space offers students and teachers alike a chance to take a break from learning and get active.

A large component of this project was researching the different factors that effect learning in an institutional space. Studies show that students learn more efficiently when there are a variety of postures available. In this space, there are four main postures from public and private group settings to public and private individual settings.

Work with a team to renovate a higher education space that provides individual and group spaces for two different departments. Gain experience working with the framework set forth by a real client. Duration: 2 weeks Project Size: 20,000 SF

Solution: Create a space for the Interior Design and Art departments inspired by the architecture of surrounding buildings on campus that balances individual studios and collaboration spaces for both departments.

Each school in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design is branded by a specific color. These colors are used throughout each space to distinguish which department is being represented. In the student lounge, the college logo is the focal point to promote interdepartmental collaboration.

It was important to ensure that both departments had ample studio space for their individual needs. Each department had specific needs for educational spaces. While the interior design department preferred one large studio space, the art department needed individual studios for different classes.

This renovation needed to include office space for the teachers from each department as well as shared classroom spaces for larger, lecture style classes. Durable flooring options were selected to withstand damage that could be incurred from hands on projects.

Objective: Design a women’s clinic that uses fact-based research to promote well being and satisfaction. Develop a floor plan that meets code regulations and increases clinic efficiency. Duration: 4 weeks Project Size: 4,500 SF

Create a healthcare space that is inspired by the abundance of life found in a tide pool. Create a floorplan that incorporates a variety of different spaces while maintaining functionality and efficiency to increase patient care.

Note: Studies have shown that a cool color pallete has a calming effect. Combined with high quality fabric selections, healthcare design can begin to adopt a more inviting hospitality mindset. The tide pool inspired ceiling detail in the waiting area brings depth and life to the space .

Work on a two person team to design an in-patient suite that provides areas for patient care and family. Use the latest research on innovations in healthcare design and factors that promote healing and patient satisfaction. Duration: 2 weeks Project Size: 360 SF

Solution: Create a healing environment by incorporating daylighting and an open floorplan with ample space for guests to promote the importance of family in the healing process.

In Patient Suite Features Toilet room located on the headwall to keep patients from having to cross the room, with a continuous handrail from the bed to the toilet. Hand washing stations strategically located inside patients rooms between the door and patient, clearly visible as a reminder to wash hands. Built - in storage with enough room to store luggage and other personal items. Walls at a ten degree slant so that the patient bed angles towards the window. Picture window with operable side lights on either side to provide the option of fresh air in the suite. White board to show name of nurse on duty, hang pictures of loved ones, and write encouraging notes to the patient. Flexible sleeper furniture in family zone gives visitors comfortable options for sleeping.

Note: A neutral color pallete in finish and fabric selections come together to create a retreat from the normally sterile environment in hospitals so that the patient’s stay becomes enjoyable rather than taxing.
