Caitlin Bertinshaw Passionate Designer | World explorer | Questioner | Meditator | Baker
ME IN A NUTSHELL Hi there, I’m Caitlin (other aliases include Caiti/CB). In a nutshell, I’m a passionate designer, world explorer, life questioner, devoted meditator and addicted baker. I was fortunate enough to discover my calling in life soon after finishing school. Upon hearing the quote “art is a smile of the heart, design is a smile of the mind” I felt like I truly knew what I wanted to do combine art and words to create infinite meanings and messages.

LOVINGLY PUT TOGETHER PAGES
Magazine design The CEO Magazine was the first magazine I had the privilege to work on. Lovingly putting together the pages of this unique magazine has taught me endless things about the relationship between design and editorial, the importance of consistency within style and at the same time the endless creative possibilities available when working with a great and inspired style.

LOVINGLY PUT TOGETHER PAGES
Cover design Designing covers is one of my favourite things about magazine publishing. That old adage of ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ certainly need not apply! When I design a new cover each month, I love thinking about the experience of the person scanning the shelves at the newsagent and being drawn in by the cover. That’s a job well done!

COMPANY BRANDING AND COLLATERAL
Company design My role at The CEO Magazine not only includes the design of the monthly title but also the design of all company collateral from stationary to website design just to name a few. Once a year also sees the return of The CEO Magazine’s Executive of the Year Awards. This involves the design of everything from websites, EDMs, advertising, sponsorship kits, programs guides, table plans. The list goes on, but boy is it fun!

THE LABOUR OF LOVE
Wedding Invitation This was a project particularly close to my heart. The beautiful bride involved in this wedding was my eldest sister so creating this suite of wedding collateral for her took me on a very special journey. Wedding design is a particular passion of mine, to be able to help create a couples perfect wedding is such a rewarding experience.

BRAIN TEASER CARDS
CAN YOU CONNECT THESE SIXTEEN POINTS USING SIX STRAIGHT LINES WITHOUT RAISING YOU PEN OFF THE PAPER?
Brain Teasers As designers we come in many shapes and forms, it is our creative process that defines us. Being a perennial prankster myself, it’s appropriate to use brain teasers to summarise my creative process. The about work summarise the 5 key components i adopt when interpreting a brief, evaluation, research, analysis, concept and execution.

Personal I was attracted to photography from a young age. It’s something that always spoke to me. The epitome of communication, an incredible photo can speak directly to the soul. As we all know, a picture speaks a thousand words. It was this concept playing in the back of my mind that led me to explore the notion of communication design. The top right image won first prize at the Mosman Art Prize.

Professional I was lucky enough to work on the 2012 Stella Fella Campaign, an amazing campaign designed to raise awareness about violence against women and human trafficking. My time with this organisation enabled me to work on a range of things including web design, print brochures and art directing the shoot used across the campaign collateral. It was an amazing experience and such a worthwhile cause.

STEP 01 THE TEASER
Vol 1: Graduate Exhibition 2011 I was elected by my fellow graduates as project manager for the development and execution of the July 2011 Billy Blue graduate exhibition. My team and I wanted to push the concept of a graduate exhibition above and beyond what had been done before. We threw our hearts and souls into creating an interactive experience that highlighted the individual talents of our entire year. In this role I gained invaluable experience in project management, digital print and web design.
