Titanic April 15, 1912 A Century Later
Nearly a century has sailed since the luxury steamship Titanic met its catastrophic end in the North Atlantic, plunging two mile to the ocean floor after sideswiping an iceberg during its maiden voyage. Rather than the intended Port of New York, a deep-sea grave became the pride of the White Star Line’s final destination in the early hours of April 15, 1912. More than 1,500 people lost their lives in the disaster. Her resting place was discovered in 1985 off the coast of Newfoundland. For more information please visit www.history.com

Joe Sanchez Joe is the fifth of seven children born to Adolfo and Virginia Sanchez and raised in Alice, Texas. Joe quit school when he was about fifteen years old and moved to Grapevine, Texas to live with his sister and brother -in-law. There he worked as a welder in a factory. His beginnings in music stemmed from his mother who was a wonderful singer. Joe would listen to his mother’s beautiful voice every single morning as she went about her daily routine of housekeeping. She would sing along with all of the contemporary melodies played by radio personalities like Miguel Rios and Mando Pena. Other musical influences would include his uncle, Ramon Cardona, who was a singer and guitarist. His cousin, “Yoyo” was also a singer and guitarist. Joe has fond memories of singing to the Beatles tunes as a young child. Joe recalls that around the age of fourteen his old brother had bought a guitar because he was taking music lessons from a college buddy. Joe would listen to his brother practice from a distance. He was not allowed in the practice room because his brother did not want Joe distracting their study. After the practice session was over his brother would leave with his buddy. Joe would take these opportunities to sneak in and pull out his brother’s guitar and practice what he had previously heard from the practice session. One day his brother came home earlier than expected and caught him red-handed. Well, it turns out that his brother was so impressed with Joe’s playing capabilities that he gave Joe his new guitar. Beaming with joy, Joe accepted the guitar and started playing guitar on a regular basis. The person who influenced Joe’s musical direction was his uncle, Domingo Sanchez. Remembering his first audition for Chano Cadena, who at the time was looking for some talent to work for him. Ruben and I got the job and now had to get ready for their first gig with a band. My Uncle Mingo bought me a used bajo sexto and my brother-in-law, Pablo, loaned me a leisure suit. The following weekend they played to a packed house, mano a mano con “El Palomo y El Gorrion”, in the greater Houston area. Joe remembers, laughing, that it was so hard for him to keep on time with the music because all he could hear was the sound of his knees knocking. What an experience! Joe has played with Chano Cadena and Los Superiores de Eddie Ruiz before starting his own band, Los Nobles de Rancho Alegre. Joe also likes to write songs. Ruben and Joe have played for about 30 years together. The last 20 of those years, Joe’s son, Joey, has accompanied him. Due to an injury Joe stopped playing in his group and turned his attention to recording and producing and promoting area bands like Los Nuevos Campeones, Conjunto Iluxion , and Conjunto Irresistible on his GVR label and recording studio. With the help of Texas Rehabilitative Services, Joe was able to return to college and first obtain an Associates Degree in General Arts. Joe went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics with a Teaching Certificate.

Cremation Urns Joe I. Garcia - Owner “Blesses
are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4
Feliz Pascua Happy Easter Easter is the celebration of Jesus Christ rising from the dead (His Resurrection) after His crucifixion which took place on what we now term Good Friday. According to the scriptures, Christ’s tomb was empty three days after His death. His followers saw Him and spoke to Him after this. As the Sabbath (Holiest day of the week) was now approaching, and burials were not permitted, Christ’s body was laid in a new tomb by Joseph of Arimathea. It is thought that this was a tomb that Joseph had prepared for his own death, but having pleaded with Pilate for the release of Christ’s body, he urgently needed a suitable place for the body to be kept until burial after the Sabbath. Assisted by a
Roman called Nicodemus, Joseph bought fine linen in which he wrapped Christ’s body as it was brought down from the cross. At the entrance of the tomb was placed a large boulder.
Nearly three days later, on the Sunday, Mary Magdelene and Mary, Mother of Jesus’s disciple, James, entered the tomb to anoint Christ’s body and prepare it for burial. However, upon entering, they were shocked to find the tomb empty. Christ’s body had gone. The two Mary’s saw an Angel who announced that Christ had resurrected, and assumed life after death. Naturally, they were very scared, but strangely comforted, especially when they spoke with several of Christ’s disciples, who said Christ had appeared to them, and assured them that He had risen. From that time on, followers of Christ were assured the hope of life after death, an everlasting life in the Kingdom of Heaven. The real meaning of Easter had begun.
Jesus “Jesse” Perez San Diego- Jesse Perez was born a natural musician. By the age of eight, Jesse was already playing the harmonica. It was around this time that Jesse also started singing. His love for signing helped him land a job with Los 7 Nacionales de Julian Garcia. In 1963, when Jesse was only 14 years old he sang his first song “Que Suerte la Mia” at a club named El Torito in Corpus Christi.
La Voz de San Diego
Jesse continued to sing during his childhood and adolescent years. This would open the door to Jesse writing his own songs. In 1974, Jesse would come to meet Hum-
berto Lozano Lopez and establish a lengthy friendship. Mr. Lopez gave Jesse the nickname of “El Solitario” because Jesse always sang solo. In 1975, Jesse would compose his first song entitled “La Tragedia de George B. Parr.” Jesse has composed over 200 songs. Jesse was also privileged to be a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch Natural Light Beer and Budweiser Beer. Jesse has been blessed with the talent of playing different musical instruments such as, the accordion, base guitar, bajo sexto, drums, key boards, and harmonica. Contributed By Ruben Cadena Jr.

Water Safety Tips for Children Keeping Children Safe In, On, and Around Water Spring has arrived and with this comes the blissful hot days. Families are preparing the home pools for enjoyment or seeking relief at public pools. · Along with this comes the worries of water safety. Parents need to be mindful of the children and take the proper precautions for a fun and safe time. Below are some tips for children to practice while in, on, and around water. Parents are encouraged to super- · vise all water activities. ·
Maintain constant supervision. Watch children around any water environment, no matter what skills your child has acquired and no matter how shallow the water. For younger children, practice “Reach Supervision” by staying within an arm’s length reach.
Don’t rely on substitutes. The use of flotation devices and inflatable toys cannot replace parental
supervision. Such devices could suddenly shift position, lose air, or slip out from underneath, leaving the child in a dangerous situation. Enroll children in a water safety course or Learn-to -swim classes. Your decision to provide your child with an early aquatic experience is a gift that will have infinite rewards. These courses encourage safe practices. Parents should take a CPR Course. Knowing these skills can be important around the water and you will expand your capabilities in providing care for you child.

HOROSCOPE 2012 April 2012
Your Personal Horoscope Guide to Health, Wealth & Love
Aries (March 21-April 20): A shift of focus has occurred. You're seeking the meaning of life, becoming somewhat of a philosopher. You want to understand the world better from inner levels. All your life you've been focused on the outer. You seek knowledge of things greater than self-foreign cultures, new music, different beliefs, the big picture. Keep inquiring. Go to London. Taurus (April 21-May 21): You think about what you share with others, especially resources. It's time for you to evaluate important legal matters. That's why they're on your mind. What sorts of things? Like inheritances, grants, loans, family money. You must re-evaluate how you feel about death, too. Both issues are difficult. You're strength maintains your courage. Gemini (May 23-June 20): Although the Libran pause is over for Aries, it's taking a second turn with you. Somehow you feel disconnected from everything. From things higher and lower, from Soul and personality, from the earth and from people. Don't fret. This is a natural occurrence this time of year for you. Hold everything in balance and in check. Everything's equal. Awareness is coming. Distribution (of grace) is happening.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Communication with family members, even neighbors, will be short, quick and easy. You'll enjoy bits of information from here, there, everywhere and then go on your way. Anything around learning is also that way. You learn fast, take in lots of information, then find more. Be aware that communication and computers fall by the wayside during Mercury retro. It's not personal. Everything's tired. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): It's good to plan your holiday parties. Good to have people over. Good to organize group activities and pause a bit with friends. Love and affection flow for you feel completely secure within yourself. Your intimate relationships take on a friendly air. This is needed because friendship brings about love and dissolves discord. Do this intentionally. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 20): New beginnings are almost upon the horizon. I said "almost" due to the Mercury retro. Feeling them, you arrange your appearance to make good impressions. This rearranges your self-awareness and personality, too. You may have a sort of crisis of identity. Don't worry. When we become someone new, the old goes into shock. Take Rescue Remedy.
Cancer (June 21-July 20): Maintain constant surveillance with important files and information. The mercury retro could create chaos and disorder. Don't try to learn anything new during the retro, especially at work. You won't understand anything and will actually not retain information. The best endeavor now is physical exercise. I hear that groan. Take small walks.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 20): So much is happening where no one can see it. This is good at this time because you can do much more than expected, see inner realities no one else can, and recognize what's needed to make important personal changes. Your Soul takes care of all issues that arise, especially distant and sad memories from the past. This will pass.
Leo (July 21-Aug. 22): Things will expand creatively and artistically. Something in that area needs updating anyway. It's likely that, whether you like it or not, you'll be invited to parties, to celebrate festive occasions, to be with others who enjoy you. During this month you'll think about your childhood. And come to greater understanding and forgiveness.
Aquarius (Jan. 21-Feb. 18): Friends are most important now along with being involved in groups. Something intelligent comes forth and your feelings and interests are seen. Ideas, usually unusual from you, do challenge others. At this time they are accepted easily. Follow your own mind and don't conform to anyone.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Home is where you feel most safe. A winter garden brings forth your ability to nurture and you become the reflection of Ceres who holds a sheaf of wheat in her arms. You may do work on your family origins. Revive and recreate traditions that connect you with your family. They will warm you well into the future.
Pisces (Feb. 18-March 20): Work continues to be rather overwhelming. But if you ask your angels for help by making them lists of work needing to be done, they'll get to it quickly and efficiently. Praise comes your way. And Life sweeps into your living room. Re-examine your professional goals. Your
