auai’s REALTOR leadership met with Governor Neil Abercrombie, Senator Ron Kouchi, Representative Derek Kawakami, and Representative James Tokioka, and others at the State Capitol last January to put forth specific agenda items laying the groundwork for the 2013 Legislative Session that would benefit the home buyer and seller. Presenters were Kauai Board of Realtors President Donna Rice, RB, Karen Ono, Association Executive, President-elect (2014) F. Lee Morey, RB, and Vice President Chad Deal, RB. They were all most graciously and generously received, and the politicians were strongly interested in the

proposals and gave much of their time to fully understand them all. The three agenda items, presented prior to the year’s legislative session begins, included modification of the Sellers Disclosure Law, permanent prohibition on the use of Private Transfer Fees, and opposition to any General Excise tax (GET) increase. A package was distributed to each legislator that contained a list of the issues supported and/or opposed by the Hawaii Association of REALTORS and the Kauai Board of REALTORS. The Hawaii Realtor’s sought to get a running start with the legislators to enhance chances of the passage of the changes. All three agenda items directly impact home buyers and sellers.
