Tank farm is a reclaimed area located at the waterfront of Auckland city and is approximately 3.5 m above mean sea level. Since the 1930’s the area has been used for bulk petrochemical storage, soil in the region is so contaminated from petrochemicals it can be visibly seen on some vacant lots. With changes in the bulk liquid industry, and the progressive expiration of industrial leases in the reclamation means that the area is becoming a precinct in search of a new purpose. The Auckland CBD is a highly urbanised district with large areas of impervious surfaces. During storms there are large discharges of stormwater into the harbour. The proposed design utilizes the tankfarm as an opportunity to clean up the contaminated soil and create facilities to treat storm water from the freeman’s bay catchment.

Inspired by the cinematography of Asian martial arts movies, this courtyard garden is contemplative in nature. The minimalistic aesthetic works in conjunction with the vegetation in creating a rather meditative ambience. Rapidograph on tracing paper + archiCAD
