Dundas Libr ar y is an open and inviting contempor ar y idler’s institute located in downtown Toronto. The building - its for m, urban response and facade - has been developed from an under standing of the char acter istics of the site and region. The inter ior layout establishes an unique visual identity that together with its spatial response , infor ms a greater sense of place - a place of inspir ation, lear ning, and encounter s. The building ser ves as both a physical and symbolic connector of people , ar t and knowledge .

02 AUXILIUM Univer sity of Water loo Super visor: Ter r i Boake Year: 2018 CISC Competition FINALIST There is a place in Canada where one road, one br idge , connects the countr y. When that br idge fails, it sever s the nation in two, and 103 million dollar s in goods are diver ted each day. This is exactly what happened on Januar y 10, 2016, when the Nipigon River Br idge , just nor th of Thunder Bay Ontar io, failed due to a combination of design flaws. Auxilium is an alter native to this br idge , providing a contingency shipping route in emer gency situations, and attr acting tour ism to Nor ther n Ontar io, which has been in an economic downtur n for decades. The 300m cable-stayed br idge has a maximum span of 150m, and is suppor ted by two V-shaped HSS pier s. The cur ved shape allows for a seamless integr ation into the ongoing Tr ansCanada highway twinning project. The elevated pedestr ian br idge allows one to look out from the last connective piece of infr astr ucture in Ontar io.

03 ELEVATE Univer sity of Water loo Super visor: Rick Andreghetti Year: 2017

This project is a four person student residence located on a hill just north of the School of Architecture in Cambridge. My parti stacks four rectangular prisms perpendicularly, so that it creates a mass that can be accessed through both the street above and the parking lot below. In addition, with the four accomodations sandwiched in between the public amenities on the top floor and the public bike repair shop on the bottom floor, a contradicting hierarchy of public vs private spaces arises.

04 the URBS House In collabor ation with Ryan Fanseda, Chr is Qiu and Riling Chen

Univer sity of Water loo Super visor: Donald McKay Year: 2018 Featured in “questioning the _“ UWSA Student Project review 2018 We were given a plot of land and the intention to design a home for two unrelated people, in hopes of bringing them together and into the community. The underlying idea for this pre-frabricated building lies in the structure. The term “urbs” is used to define the structure as a symbolic representation of order in what otherwise would be a harsh and modern life in a chaotic polis. By making the structure universally modular, the parts can then be mass produced in a factory and assembled in any way on any site.

SITE MAP AINSLIE ST, LOT 06 SCALE 1:1000

The massing parti of the Urbs House is largely based on a singular volume with a ‘cut-out’ for light penetration, with this subtraction of mass central to the programatic spacial sequences.

05 WESTMOUNT Univer sity of Water loo Super visor: Rick Andreghetti Year: 2017

Mies Van der Rohe’s Westmount Square is not only a statement to modernist office buildings, but is also a dominant threshold in a city constantly in flux.

32

33

This diagrammatic notation of Westmount is a more literaly approach to its architecture. The intent was to use transparency to understand the threshold condition.Though contrasting the visibility on the ground plane with the exact location of the viewer, one can begin to grasp Mies’ intention of blurring interior with the exterior.
