I know it sounds unbelievable but I’m still maintaining a system that I wrote 16 or 17 years ago.” Up until recently, all our recommendations were by word of mouth. That requires a lot of faith on behalf of the customer and it’s something we don’t take lightly. Promotion to the English Premier League catapulted Burnley Football Club into the big time. And proud club sponsor David Fishwick says his beloved club’s ascension to the English Premier League also helped boost his own new ventures and business developments. David, whose name sits atop the stand where the teams emerge at Turf Moor, has resolutely fought oﬀ turbulent economic tailwinds buﬀeting the UK's business landscape. And the self-made 38-year-old has also managed to keep his burgeoning national van, minibus and mini-coach sales - and in-house vehicle conversion business - on track for another year of growth. “I've been involved with the club for about five years,” he explained. “I've also sponsored the 5,000-strong stand, and to be honest having the Fishwick Stand has been an amazing public relations coup for us. “I didn't believe in the huge power of football for marketing but it's truly been incredible. “We chose that stand because the home and away supporters sit in it and it’s neatly in the TV arc, so it's really helping to get the brand out there.” Right now, raising the bar for brand and marketing is firmly on the radar for Mr Fishwick, who is planning to take his already successful business up a notch and consider further expansion. To this end, he has recently embarked on a namechange for his company to David Fishwick Minibus, dropping the previous sole alliance to LDV in the business name. This, he says, newly reflects its recent stellar growth to supply all types of minibuses and vans to his typical client companies such as travel businesses, local authorities, schools and hospitals. Although chiefly well-known for years as the leading supplier of LDV vehicles, the new economic reality means that David Fishwick is also a principal dealer for most brands,

including Mercedes, Fiat, Iveco, Optare and VW, either as factory-built minibuses, or increasingly as conversions - customising vehicles to specific, tailormade requirements. Today, to meet demand for the growing market for conversions, his South Wales factory has capacity to build more than 1,000 vehicles a year - making the company the largest supplier of wheelchair accessible vehicles and mini coaches in the country. “Although the recession has been tough and made for a diﬃcult year, the business does have a recession-proof element to it because schools and local authorities, for example, still need to get their buses,” explained Mr Fishwick. So what propels the man behind this success? Like most entrepreneurs, Mr Fishwick admits he is driven by a compulsion to 'do the deal' rather than be hide-bound by process and systems. It's a long way from his departure from school at 16 without any qualification, but a lorry , or rather, van load of ambition! “I came from a poor but hardworking background but that never prevented me from always having a huge sense of ambition. “I've always liked having a goal and then achieving it.’ Having made his first million in his 20s from the business and then deciding to expand that horizon to becoming a multi-millionaire in his 30s – replete
today with his own helicopter and Ferrari's - Mr Fishwick is keen to stress it's not just about the money. “What the money does oﬀer is choice - to learn to fly, say, or to travel, to invest and try out new things for a business - but the greater challenge is to develop and keep on creating new opportunities.” One pressing task on his 'to do' list is raising his profile further, revealing that he's already been approached by Secret Millionaire - Channel 4's show

Much time is spent here by Myerscough Football Academy students, who benefit from the top facilities of a Premier League football club as well as coaching from UEFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ qualified coaches. The Centre also has access to the on-site golf course at Towneley Hall which is used for the delivery of Golf Studies courses. Towneley Hall also provides an impressive venue to deliver a range of full and part time courses in Access and Horticulture. The 14th Century country house is ideally located within 180 hectares of park and woodland, yet only 1.5 miles from the town centre. Additionally, Crow Wood Equestrian Centre oﬀers excellent facilities for those students wishing to undertake full-time, part-time and short courses in Equine Studies. An indoor school, two outdoor schools and all-weather gallops and trails complement an impressive livery at this popular £1 million venue. Slightly further afield, the College’s Blackburn Centre also oﬀers a range of Animal Care and Animal Management courses – utilising a range of facilities on-site at Witton Park.

Here’s an insight into how I got to where I am today, running my own sports memorabilia company. My epic journey started in 1996 whilst playing rugby league for my local club Waterhead ARLFC. A driving force in the town Transdev Burnley & Pendle are the provider of bus services within the Borough’s of Burnley and Pendle, which include services such as the Mainline, Starship and The Witch Way. Transdev Burnley & Pendle even provided the buses for the open top welcome parade through the town when The Clarets won promotion to the Premier League Buses on the Mainline link Padiham, Burnley, Nelson and Colne and during the day services generally run at least every 7 minutes! To the West and North of Padiham, Mainline services also extend out to Accrington, Clitheroe, Hapton, Altham and Shuttleworth Mead and to the East and North of Colne, Mainline services extend out to Barnoldswick, Earby, Keighley, Cowling and Trawden. Recently, Mainline has invested more than £3.1 million in 19 new state of the art buses, which all which feature spacious interiors and comfortable, wider seating with leather headrests, are fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies. There is also improved lighting and CCTV for added safety and comfort. Each bus is branded with the Mainline logo and the striking claret colour throughout to
make the vehicles easy to identify. Getting around Burnley is easier with Starship, local buses serving Burnley and Nelson which run throughout the day, 7 days a week. During the day, Starship services generally run at least every 30 minutes, with frequencies increased to every 10 minutes on some routes, so this really is a great way to travel. Getting to the match should now be even easier with bus services operated by Transdev Burnley & Pendle. We know that many Burnley FC fans choose to travel to home matches by bus, avoiding busy match day traﬃc and the hassle of finding a parking space. Plus it leaves you free to enjoy a drink either before or after the game. We hope that even more people will choose to leave their car at home, especially with 1 day tickets priced at just £3.50 for unlimited travel in Burnley, or from as little as £2 per adult for season ticket holders who purchase a ticket t’turf.
