In the

Summertime

F

Nautical Family and Nautical Table

Summer is always a fun time of year. Going to the beach and relaxing on the sand is a great way to enjoy time with friends and family. However, there is more than just the ocean and sun to be enjoyed! Culinary delights such as fresh seafood, funnel cake and saltwater taffy are some of the treats that can be found along the boardwalk at the shore. â?

Family with Popcorn Popcorn Machine

A Buttery Treat!

Popcorn machines have been delighting families with the warm buttery kernels since the late 1800s. However, popcorn isn't just for eating. Over the years, popcorn has been used in a variety of ways including decorative garland to go on the Christmas tree! ❁

FUN FACTS

How high can popcorn kernels pop? Up to 3 feet in the air. If you made a trail of popcorn from New York City to Los Angeles, you would need more than 352,028,160 popped kernels.

Of the 6 types of maize/corn— pod, sweet, flour, dent, flint, and popcorn—only popcorn pops!

George Washington

2

We have been working with the Mount Vernon Ladies Association for years developing George and Martha Washington in various costumes. They have had an exclusive on these figurines until this year, when it was decided they would share this figure of George. We are thrilled and thought you would be, too. ❁

Mount Vernon, you might want to plan a trip!

Colonial Spring Man and Woman

As we all know, Williamsburg is a wonderful place to visit at Christmas. In Williamsburg, you can step back into history to celebrate this holiday as our ancestors celebrated it 200 years ago. It’s a memorable experience, but let us not forget that Williamsburg is alive and well all year round.

Spring is a great time to visit the beautiful colonial gardens filled with flowers, vegetables, and culinary and medicinal herbs. This Spring, Byers’ Choice’s Williamsburg figures are working in their garden. The straw hat, baskets of flowers, bird bottle and rake all speak to spring and summer. They will make great accent pieces for your home or a lovely gift for a gardening friend. ❁ 215-822-6700

Christmas in Poland In Poland, Christmas is often described as the Festival of the Star. On Christmas Eve, the children are sent out to spot the night’s first star before a candle is lit and the holiday meal is served. After the feast, the children await a visit from the Star Man who travels from door to door with a group of caroling Star Boys. The Star Man asks the children questions to confirm their religious knowledge before passing out small gifts to all the good children. â? Polish Star Man & Caribou

Boy and Girl with Bicycles

Bicycle

Basics

Old English Santa & Old English Mrs. Claus Decorated Tree with Lights

In the 1870’s, the first metal-framed bicycles were introduced. These high-wheeled bikes were eventually called Penny-farthings because of their different wheel sizes. Front wheels could be as wide in diameter as the rider’s legs would allow. In the day, a bike could have cost as much as six months wages. ❁

Walking

Carolers

Walking Caroling Woman and Man

After many years, we feel that we have developed the best way to handcraft large Carolers®. Our first attempt was made in the early 1980’s, but we never hit on something that we felt worked well. Now we think we have it! Our 19-inch “Walking Caroling Man and Woman,” plus the “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” Santa, capture the Byers’ Choice handcrafted spirit of Christmas. We hope to introduce a new Santa each year

with a Christmas song theme and would like

your help. Please send us the name of your favorite Christmas song, and we will do our

best to create a Santa for the winning melody. One person who submits the winning song title will be selected to receive one of the first prototypes. We look forward to hearing from

you, as we value your participation!
