BUILDING APPEAL NEWSLETTER 5

We STILL need your help!! BE A PART OF THE SCHOOL’S FUTURE! Dear parents/carers, colleagues, students (present and past) and friends of the school.

£26,159 and growing fast! The past month has seen an increase of nearly £5,000 thanks largely to both a good take up of the purchase and dedicate a brick scheme and the hard work of the PTA in mounting activities to raise funds to support the cause. Building news We are hopeful building will be completed during the second half of the summer term and that we can celebrate and dedicate the centre on the evening of the PTA’s summer fayre: Friday, 1st July. Please put this date in your diaries. We would like it to be a very well supported occasion. Once built, we want to equip the facility with the latest in ICT and study resources as well as a comfortable social area. This is what all the fundraising is for and this month we are rolling out yet more initiatives which we hope everyone will want to support fully. Order and dedicate a brick – LAST WEEK: closing date 18th February (half term) These will be internally mounted and serve as a legacy of the involvement of many people associated with the near fifty year history of the school. An application form can be downloaded and printed off from the front page of the school website (click on ‘campaign newsletter 4’) but must be completed and returned by the Friday before the half term break. Sponsored School Walk: Saturday, 2nd April, 2011 We hope that many members of the school community will want to participate in a family sponsored walk on Cannock Chase at the beginning of April. The attached letter gives more details about registering for this event which must be done as soon as possible. Please complete and return the proforma to Mrs Franklin via the school office by half term (18th February) if possible. In return you will be given a sponsor form to complete over the next six weeks or so. There will be prizes to the people raising the most sponsorship money and we all hope to have a really sociable day out, raising much needed funds for the school. If anyone is willing and able to act as a marshall on the day, we would love to hear from “Your education is your life; guard it well.” (Proverbs 4:13)

you. Please contact Mrs Franklin at the school or email her via office.admin@blessedwilliamhoward.staffs.sch.uk PTA Family Quiz Night - 18th March, 2011 (7.30pm) These events are always enjoyable occasions, regardless of your level of general knowledge. Refreshments are available along with prizes for the best adult and under 18 teams. Tickets for the event are modestly priced at £2.00 each with a maximum team size of six contestants. Please endeavour to come along with friends and family. Click Photogrpahy - free family photo shoot for a donation to the appeal Phil Gallimore, who does a great deal of photography for the school, is offering a free 30 minute photo shoot (normally retailing at £30) to anyone who makes a separate donation to the appeal of at least £10. This would be ideal for families and friends. Contact the school to take advantage of this offer now! Mufti Days The next monthly non-uniform days this year is on Friday 11th February. Students are asked to contribute a minimum of £1 but every little extra all helps the cause. Approximately £3,000 has been raised so far from these days. Thank you. Grand Draw – PRIZES NEEDED URGENTLY The PTA is going to promote a grand draw during next half term. To this end we are appealing for offers of prizes with a view to attracting a high degree of interest from local companies and individuals. If you are able to donate a prize, or persuade a company or store to donate a prize, please get in touch with Mrs Barker via office.admin@blessedwilliamhoward.staffs.sch.uk Online shopping is bringing in commission Thank you to all those of you who have done your shopping online via the link on the school’s website or directly through www.buy.at/bwh This is bringing in about £20 a month at present. If everyone remembers to shop via this link, this commission will increase considerably. Other activity You may have seen the coverage in local newspapers recently covering the start of the building work. Our next story is scheduled to be released at half term when Mrs Meddings (winner of our initial sponsor competition) will assist in the laying of some of the first bricks. If any other parents would like to lend some support to this story please telephone the school for details. I would still like to hear from many generations of past students and if anyone can help with spreading news of the campaign and encouraging support to grow (via parishes, the workplace, or social network internet sites like Facebook) this would be a bonus. Members of the current sixth form are planning a host of activities following exams; more information will follow soon! Finally, thank you for all your support to date. Please do everything you can to support all of the above initiatives and encourage your friends to do likewise. “Your education is your life; guard it well.” (Proverbs 4:13)

Yours faithfully, Nigel Dudley, Deputy Headteacher

SIXTH FORM BUILDING APPEAL SPONSORED WALK: SATURDAY 2nd APRIL 2011

As part of the fund raising for the new 6th form centre we have arranged a sponsored walk which you, your family and friends are invited to attend. The walk will take between two and a half and three hours on a ten kilometre/seven mile marshalled Forestry Commission course between the hours of 10.00am and 3.00pm. You will need suitable clothing and shoes/boots for the event and may care to bring refreshments. Please register for this event by completing the proforma overleaf and returning it with a nominal registration fee of just £2.00 per walker (to cover administration costs) to me (via the school office) by Friday, 18th March, 2011. Upon receipt of the registration form, you will be given/sent a sponsorship form which must be shown prior to starting the course in order to be validated. Everyone who registers will be required ultimately to return this form with all monies collected. There will be prizes for those who generate the most sponsorship money. Family members wishing to take part in the walk are welcome to register using the same form. Please complete the details overleaf as appropriate and remember to include the correct total registration fee. We all look forward to welcoming as many families and friends associated with the school as possible to what we hope will be a most enjoyable and profitable community activity.
