Family, projects, and celebration! Family Update Greetings from Memphis, TN! Once again, so much to report since our last update, but I will start with what is most fresh on my mind. First off, Ginny is pregnant with our second baby boy!!! She is due October 29. We are excited, but Ginny would agree, this pregnancy has been difficult compared our son AJ. Currently, Ginny is on strict bed rest (only up to use the rest room and shower) and most likely will remain on bed rest until the baby is born. Ginny spent a week in the hospital June 4-10 after a surgical procedure to keep her from going into labor. So, life is a little different at the Gross house right now. Our local church and Habitat for Hope (HFH) families are taking great care of us and have a schedule of people to help out with AJ and Ginny so I may continue to work. Please pray for us to make the best of this circumstance and glory in God’s plans. Know that I am already learning much about what it feels like to be “Mr.
Mom” and definitely appreciating Ginny more for all she does for our family. AJ is doing awesome, and he is becoming more and more fun every day! He is 1 ½ and is very much looking forward to having a full-time playmate (little brother).
Barn Raising Project Update Quick review: HFH is in the planning stages for building a Christian community refuge and respite care facility for families enduring pediatric illness right here in Millington, TN! For more information, visit www.habitatforhope.org. Our ministry team continues to refine this vision and most recently we have come a long way in putting together materials necessary to begin to raise funds for construction. Another staff member and I spent a lot of time between December and March meeting, planning, and writing our operational strategies both for fund raising and how our facility will actually operate upon substantial completion. (If you
would like to see a sample of any of these documents, call or write and I will be happy to show them to you) Alongside this planning, we have been working very hard this spring/early summer on the existing HFH property to get it in the best shape it has ever been. With the hope of breaking ground on the first cottage by the end of 2011, we feel strongly the property we already have needs to be in top shape. We want the families we serve to be blessed by the beauty, and potential donors to see we are being good stewards with what God has already given.
April During the month of April, the Gross family moved into “Hope House” as hosts while our leaders Mark and Mylissa and family took a brief sabbatical. Although we do this periodically throughout the year, this time was different as Mark and Mylissa completely unplugged from all things HFH. While they were gone, we were responsible to keep
the HFH boat afloat. As a bonus, we gave the Hope House kitchen a facelift while they were gone and surprised them with a transformation from dark and drab to bright and happy. It was a lot of fun to see their reaction when they returned home.
Five Years July marks the five year anniversary of HFH in Memphis. (Ginny and I have been a part for 3.5 of those years)! As part of the above mentioned drafting of an operational strategy, our staff came up with a section entitled “Spiritual State of the Ministry.” In this section we highlighted successes in the five years of HFH. I wanted to highlight a few, but don’t have room for them all. Since its beginning in Memphis July 2006, HFH staff and volunteers have: • Served families from 6 foreign countries and 27 US states • Lodged over 100 families continued other side
