PERTH focus For this issue’s city focus we take a look at PERTH.


UCH of the Perth’s High Street is a traffic free precinct with a wide variety of shops. Many of the streets around the centre are comprised of elegant Georgian terraced houses. Perth has probably always been a centre for farming and less dependent on the traditional Scottish industries of fishing, textiles and engineering. The city offers many shops, galleries and theatre in the town centre. Scenery, castles, history, walks and attractions are common in an around Perth, and historic Scone Palace and Perth Racecourse are nearby.

PERTH: • In March 2012, as part of Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee celebrations, Perth was one of three cities to be awarded city status. • The city of Perth is also known as St John’s Town or the Fair City and located on the Banks of the River Tay. • The population of Perth is approximately 43,450. • The presence of Scone Abbey, home of the Stone of Destiny where the King of Scots was crowned, enhanced the early importance of the town. • Perth is centrally located to all the main cities in Scotland, only 64 miles to Glasgow, 43 miles to Edinburgh, 71 miles to Aberdeen.
