Citizens were ignored

This is how I'll vote p "Buh bye Sarah McAulay…Get Lost Brian Jenest….Go Jump In A Lake Vi Lyles…and Pat McCrory, you’ve gotten the last vote you’ll ever get from this voter." —via online comments on www.corneliustoday.com Brian Jenest, the Davidson representative on the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization, changed his vote from supporting the long-range transportation plan to voting against it. Because the City of Charlotte and Vi Lyles have a weighted 46 percent of the vote, it passed.

"There were many chances for them to stop the project or at least delay it so they could review the terms again but those that had the power to do so, did not. A lot of different forces at play here, but what it comes down to is that the voice of the citizens were ignored and this monstrosity continues forward." —via SoundOff Cornelius on Facebook

Sometimes doughnuts are that important p "America may run on Dunkin' Donuts, but DD sure put a stop to traffic on West Catawba. Not a good first impression for our new neighbor." —via anonymous SoundOff link on www.corneliustoday.com

Don't block handicap p

I'm angry and want to be heard! p “Look at me. Roar! I'm angry and I think people care! I have my own opinion and everyone else is wrong! The jerk that cut me off? Yeah, take that buddy, I'm complaining in the local paper! Wait, do you read the local paper? Why won't the mayor do what I say!? Why won't this person drive the way I want?! Why can't everything be exactly as I want?! ... said every person that ever complained on Sound Off ever.” —via anonymous SoundOff link on www.corneliustoday.com Cornelius Today is more than happy to give all residents a chance to express their opinions without fear of recrimination. That said, we recognize our responsibility to keep comments reasonable and restrict personal attacks.

"Never fails that some golf cart owners in Crown Harbor feel the need to block the handicap ramp violating the American Disabilities Act. Not only is it lazy to drive a short distance to the pool but they should be ashamed they block others from gaining access to it. Maybe someday they will be in a wheelchair and will sadly feel what it’s like to not have ramp access!" —via SoundOffCornelius@gmail.com • Maj. Kevin Black of the Cornelius Police Department explained the laws around golf carts for our SoundOff friend. "In NC Golf Carts are not allowed to drive on public streets unless they registered (just like a car). In order for them to attain registration the golf cart has to be equipped just like a car having: * Headlamps. * Stop lamps. * Turning signals. * Tail lamps. * Reflex reflectors. * Parking brakes. * Rearview mirrors. * Windshields (and wipers). * Speedometer. * Seat belts. * Vehicle identification number (VIN). Once equipped the vehicle has to be inspected and the owner can apply for a registration plate (just like an automobile). NC is allowing communities/towns to draft local ordinances allowing the operations of golf carts on local streets in the specific community. In this case the cart has to be registered through the town, not the state, and is not required to have all the safety equipment required for state registration. Currently the Town of Cornelius does not have a local ordinance for golf cart regulation/use."
