South Kitsap Fishermen at Harper Pier enjoy a fresh catch and even do some squidding. This 400-foot-long steel pier is perfect for casting those long lines into Puget Sound. The Port of Waterman Public Pier was once an old deteriorating wooden pier dating back 90 years, but now sturdy as ever, the transformed 230-foot steel pier serves as an ideal fishing spot in Port Orchard.
Lakes
If you’re looking to do some lake fishing in Kitsap, you’re in luck. There are several of them throughout the county with the majority located in the south end. Many have easy boat access or you can throw your line from the shore. Either way, Kitsap will serve you well with its lakes full of bountiful fish.
Central Kitsap If you feel like jumping in the water after a day of fishing, you can do just that at Wildcat Lake. It’s quite popular on Opening Day of Fishing and is stocked with Rainbow Trout. “Due to its popularity, it often receives a second plant of Rainbow Trout in May,” according to WDFW. Kitsap Lake is open for year-round fishing of jumbo Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Bluegill Sunfish. Like nearby Wildcat Lake, it too is a popular lake to fish and swim in. Island Lake is a popular spot for kids with a juvenile fishing derby hosted here in June. The lake is home to Rainbow Trout and Largemouth Bass.
North Kitsap Buck Lake “is one of few trout fishing opportunities on the northern Kitsap Peninsula. Surrounded by park lands and natural forests, Buck provides good spring fishing in an undeveloped setting,” according to WDFW. South Kitsap You get the best of both worlds at Long Lake where you can fish from your kayak, canoe or (non-motorized) boat or from the fishing pier. Although the lake isn’t stocked with trout, you can still catch Coastal Cutthroat, Largemouth Bass, and Yellow Perch. Nearby Horseshoe Lake has easy public access at the WDFW boat launch or along the shoreline at the park. The lake features Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass and Sunfish. Mission Lake is another recreational fishing lake that’s a popular spot on Opening Day of Fishing. Stocked with Rainbow Trout, it “receives a plant of jumbo triploid Rainbow Trout each spring,” according to WDFW. Featuring Largemouth Bass and Rainbow Trout, Wye Lake is a smaller lake near Belfair but still lies in Kitsap County’s boundaries. Its shape is its namesake and makes it a fun lake to fish.
These Kitsap County fishing spots will have you yelling “Fish on” in no time! You don’t even need a boat to catch tonight’s dinner. There are several public access points like docks and beaches that have some of the best fishing around. And don’t forget about lake fishing! There’s plenty of that too.
