A FOND FAREWELL Our Open Day in September had all the usual elements: nice food, meeting up with friends old and new, a certificate presentation but also something very different; it was Sue Anderson’s last day at Burwell Print Centre. After sixteen amazing years as our Manager, Sue decided it was time for her to “shake her life up” and do something different. On the day Sue gave a lovely speech about her time here and the many happy memories of the people that make Burwell Print Centre. A big thank you to Sue for being the most fantastic and supportive person to work with and who has taken Burwell Print Centre forward to where it is today. We will miss you very much, but wish you love and luck in all your new adventures from your Print Centre family. And remember the kettle is always on!

FESTIVE FUN Our Christmas Fayre promises to be the best ever with new crafts people attending for the first time. There will be florist Julia Zinmmerman who makes seasonal wreaths and bouquets and Ely QueenBee, selling honey and honey products. We also have lots of fun stuff for our younger visitors including a treasure hunt of Squishy Squishies, Christmas crafts to make and Santa’s washing-line game. There will of course be Santa’s Grotto as well as a children’s tombola and sweetie jars. We will also have some very special guests to meet - rescued hedgehogs, courtesy of Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital. You will find lots of Christmas gift ideas including bags, glass items, candles, jewellery, wooden toys and much, much more. When you need to take a break, then our café will be just the thing for hot drinks, mulled wine and a selection of delicious pastries and homemade cakes. As well as all this we will be having entertainment during the day from SCT Dance and singer Alex Smith. So why not come along to Mandeville Hall, Burwell on Saturday 7th December and join in the fun.

IN MEMORY OF A LOVELY MAN We are very sad to write that Edward Scullion, a much loved Printer, died in September. Edward was a quiet thoughtful man who loved dogs and other animals. He especially liked dolphins and whales and completed several sponsored walks along the Norfolk coastline to raise money for Dolphin Charities. Edward was a football supporter and a Cambridge United season ticket holder and always enjoyed a chat about their latest game. Edward was a supporter of the Royal British Legion and poppy seller who had a keen interest in war history, he especially enjoyed our visit to Duxford a while ago. Edward was a talented artist and one of his beautiful drawings of a robin was chosen to be included in our Christmas card pack this year. We were proud to have known and worked with Edward, we miss him very much and send our love to his mum Carol.

CHRISTMAS CARDS Over the last few weeks we have been inundated with Christmas cards. We have produced some big orders for schools, local fundraising projects, artists and smaller orders for individuals who are looking to add a personal touch to the cards they post out. We have been delighted to take on both big and small orders as our minimum order is as small as 20 cards, our printers love a project like this and packing them in plastic wallets in sets, has certainly kept us busy. We have also been working on some of our own designs with robin drawings done by our printers which are now for sale in reception and of course on our stall a the Christmas Fayre.

RAFFLE-TASTIC We have numerous chances to win fantastic prizes at the Christmas Fayre, not least our Barrow of Booze! Homebase kindly donated the wheelbarrow and since then many customers and local businesses have given donations to make this amazing prize complete. If you are not the lucky winner of this star prize there will be several other boozy prizes including a basket of fizz and chocs. We are also very proud to announce we will be raffling the fabulous “Knitivity” featured on the front cover of December’s Clunch. It was painstakingly made by Vaughan’s wife, Maggie. She has spent the last few months carefully knitting the baby Jesus and the rest of the nativity including a donkey, oxen and sheep. We would like to say a huge thank you to Maggie for creating such a wonderful prize. Tickets for both these raffles are on sale at Burwell Print Centre as well as at the Christmas Fayre. Good luck!

GOODBYE NICHOLAS Nicholas moved to his own flat in Littleport a few months ago and changed his working week. He is now volunteering at the Branching Out charity shop and decided to leave Burwell Print Centre to concentrate on his new role. Thank you Nicholas for all your hard work over the years and we wish you good luck in everything you do next.

HELLO PRZEMEK Przemek joined us in July, after leaving West Suffolk College. Over the past few months Przemek has been getting to know us and the work we do. Przemek has trained in reception and is now working at the desk independently. Przemek has anexcellent phone manner and is great at answering the telephone and putting callers through to other members of staff. We have learnt that Przemek loves music and has a fantastic singing voice. He knows loads of song lyrics and often sings along when music is playing. We think Przemek will have fun at our Christmas Disco and maybe grab the mic for a bit of Karoke!

POM-POMS EVERYWHERE On Saturday 26th October I took part in my brother and his fiancé’s wedding. I was a bridesmaid and I wore a sage green dress. The wedding was at a place called The Red Barn in Downham Market. Before the wedding I made lots of pom-poms as wedding decorations. I got this idea from making pom-pom snowmen and Christmas puddings at the Print Centre. The pom-poms were light pink, dark pink, dark green and white. I also made one that was light pink and white. I made them at home and at the Print Centre and I made them all different shapes and sizes. I made about 20 pom-poms altogether. The day before the wedding we hung the pom-poms from a tree branch. On the day lots of people said they looked nice and now that the wedding is over, we are going to keep them hanging up at home. By Melissa Waites

GOING GREENER AND HELPING OUR LOCAL SCHOOL We are now recycling empty crisp and chocolate bar wrappers to help raise money for Burwell Village College. Our Printers recycle these in a separate recycling bin and take them up to the school every week, who then recycle them using Terracycle’s recycling scheme. This helps to raise extra funds for the school.
