AUTUMN 2018

WE’VE HAD A MAKEOVER! Over the past few months we have been busy behind the scenes in the Design Room. We have rebranded the Print Centre and hope our new logo portrays the friendly, vibrant and creative place that we are. The new look was launched at our 30th Birthday Bash where all our Printers were given a work t-shirt in their chosen colour with the new logo. The building has had a fresh lick of paint with a lime door and some bright stripes. Our new identity is gradually filtering through to all Print Centre items and “old logo spotting” has become a good game for Adrian who likes leaving me notes of things I have forgotten to change! Over time the old logo will be totally replaced, and our bold colours will be on everything including the website, which is currently a work in progress. Our aim is keep growing Burwell Print Centre, attracting new customers whilst continuing to be a one-stop shop solution and friendly face to our loyal regular customers. We have already seen this is starting to work as we have had lots of new customers come to visit over the past few weeks. Shelley has also been working with us to increase our social media following and help us shout about what we can offer. Check out our social media to find out more...

WOOHOO!

September 8th – what a fabulous 30th Birthday Bash! Over 140 people joined us to celebrate this wonderful achievement as a Social Enterprise and local community resource. John, Martin and Vaughan don’t want to see another burger or sausage for a very long time as they barbequed for all our guests. Our new signage and building graphics were extremely well received, as well as our display of some of our many products and services in the Reception Area. One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of Certificates of Achievement to all our Printers which publicly acknowledge just what they do and how they are supported by our fantastic staff teams. We released 60 balloons, with the intention being that we will be here for another 30 years! Jacen, a local musician entertained us after we had cut the cake so beautifully made for us by Sophie. A big thank you to everybody who came to party with us and also to those of you who help us throughout the year and make us proud, THANK YOU.

STEVEN IS HORSING AROUND Steven Sturgeon is a huge animal lover and a volunteer at a cat rehoming centre for many years. Recently he thought it was time for a change, Steven said he would really like to spend time with horses. Steven’s support team researched this for him and took him to Tiger Stables for a visit. He spent a marvellous morning with them and said it was the place for him. Since then he has gone to the stables every week, being around the horses and helping with jobs like filling their hay nets. Steven said “ I love the horses especially Bryan, he is my favourite.” Steven is now talking about riding again like he used to do.

CAFÉ PROJECT AT RED2GREEN

Burwell Print Centre is taking part in a working together Café Project at Red2Green on a Wednesday morning for 8 weeks. It’s great to be working with Darwin Nurseries, Camtrust and Red2Green once again. The groups aim is to plan and produce food to be sold at the Red2Green Café on a Thursday. It is a great opportunity for everyone to work together in a different environment and develop new skills. To date we have produced fruit and cheese scones, Victoria and chocolate sponges, chocolate cookies, bacon quiche, jam tarts and vegetable soup. We have received very positive feedback from the café customers and everyone has had a great time producing the food. Peter has amazing knife skills, especially when preparing the vegetables for the soup. We are all looking forward to the Halloween party at the end of the project, where we will be able to showcase our creations to guests from our own Social Training Enterprises. There is a real buzz within the group and we are hoping to be able to continue with the project in the future.

HELLO TO JESS Hi, I’m Jess. I started as full time Support Worker in July. I really love it; getting to work with the people Printers and the machine printers really keeps me on my toes. I like gardening, cooking and cycling (which is good since I cycle to work - 125 miles a week!) But I really love playing Pokémon Go, even though everyone laughs at me!

JAMES AT CENTRE PEACE Our Printers continue to have the opportunity to volunteer at Centre Peace, the charity book shop in Burwell. Recently James took up this role, although he had volunteered there several years ago. It’s great James is returning as there is always new things to learn in a different environment. Kathleen is a regular Centre Peace volunteer who has welcomed James and supports him in his work. Thank you Kathleen and everyone involved with Centre Peace.

OUR MERRY PRINTERS

In June some of us took part in Burwell Carnival. The theme this year was myths and legends and we chose Robin Hood. Before the big day we all helped to paint lots of trees to stick on the trailer. Everyone had to

dress up as Robin Hood and his Merry Men and Maid Marian. The weather was kind to us again, we had a few spots of rain just before we got on the float but then it stayed dry the whole time. I was on the float and I had a really good time and I think everyone else did too. This year we won a prize for our float. Our stall with the sweetie jars helped to raise almost ÂŁ80 which was great. GOODBYE NIGEL Nigel Hotchkiss has been a regular volunteer for more than 5 years. Nigel and his wife Sue are moving to Shrewsbury, a place they love and also to be closer to their grandaughters. But of course this means Nigel will be leaving us and in September he volunteered with us for the last time. Nigel was an exceptional volunteer and we will all miss him very much. We wish them both lots of happiness in their new

home and would like to say a huge thank you to Nigel for all his hard work and support over the years. Please remember to call in for a cuppa and a natter. whenever you are in Burwell.

A FUN DAY AT DUXFORD In September we had a trip to Duxford museum. I was in a group with Sue, Robin and Jason. It was a very windy day but that did not stop us from having fun and there was lots to see. Some of the planes were interactable like the Concorde that you can walk through. On the second floor there is an activity centre where you can watch videos and play around. The videos showed how planes worked and what happened during World War Two. Lucky for us they were practicing for an air show the next day, so we got a sneak peek and saw lots of planes flying. My group took a mini shuttle to the display of tanks and houses of war time. Afterwards we ate our packed lunches in their dining area. It was a great day.
