Fabulous Fundraisers and Stupendous Service The ladies of Baylor Panhellenic have been hard at work raising money for their national philanthropies as well as helping out in the Baylor and Waco community. Check it out! The ladies of Delta Delta Delta put together their first ever Ultimate Frisbee Tournament to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Teams from different fraternities, groups, and organizations played one another. There was a DJ, a table to make cards for St. Jude, and with the help of the men of Phi Kappa Chi, hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. With 9 teams of about 8 people each, the ladies raised $750 for the hospital. The ladies plan to market next year’s event as soon as possible by selling tshirts and add water games for some extra fun in the sun.
Baylor University Spring 2012 Steppin’ Out The ladies of Baylor University Panhellenic did not miss out on the chance to participate in this semester’s Steppin’ Out Service Day. Kappa Kappa Gamma had the chance to help out at the Waco Family Abuse Center. They cleaned up the garden in front of the center by pulling weeds and cleaning. The most rewarding part of the day was the opportunity to play with the kids there who had a blast playing soccer, tag, and other outdoor games with the ladies. They were also able to share the Gospel and pray with the kids, and did not want to leave at the end of the day! Chi Omega helped clean up the Waco Arts Initiative, a children’s art building that needed extensive cleaning, painting, and organizing. After working with hammers, nails, and colorful paint, the girls had the privilege of turning a tired children’s art facility into a bright and exciting haven, all while building relationships with the kids in the neighborhood!
Delta Delta Delta had a group of about 40 girls along with the men of Alpha Tau Omega to help paint a church. Unable to finish the job in one weekend, the men and women were happy to return the following weekend and finish up their service. Alpha Delta Pi had over 80 women participate in Steppin’ Out. The ladies cleaned, painted, picked up trash, and played with the kids at the Lakewood Villa apartments. It was definitely a fun day! Zeta Tau Alpha participated in Steppin’ Out by helping clean up and remodel one of the large art structures at the entrance of Cameron Park. It is so important to keep Waco beautiful, and the ladies enjoyed being able to participate.

Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Baylor Beauties Contest Congratulations to the 2012 Baylor Beauties nominees!
The Baylor Beauty event is one of the oldest traditions on campus. When it first began sixty years ago, it was a pageant in Waco Hall in conjunction with a concert. The performers (Kingston Trio, Lettermen, etc.) served as the judges. The pageant was always a sell out. In the seventies the pageant was scaled down to a style show. Since its inception, the event has been sponsored by the Athenean Club, which is now Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Class of 2014 Liz Berringer Lauren Hughes Becca Smith Kristen Pool Casey Cantrell Chayse Hardvard Colleen Hedges
Ballots are e-mailed to all student organization presidents on campus. The ladies on the ballot were nominated by student organizations who returned their ballots. Every Baylor student is entitled to vote on eight nominees from their respective class. The eight with the greatest number of votes will appear in the style show. The election is conducted by the Baylor ITS and is overseen by Student Activities and the electoral commissioner of student government.
Class of 2013 Emily Wade Allison Kirkland Brooke Strake Catherine Claire Lowenfield Shelby Klutts Courtney Camameros Lydia Hurt Lexi Jacobson
The style show is a lovely evening that is usually attended by approximately three hundred students, parents, and alumni. Each girl in the show wears two outfits, one casual and one formal, of her own choosing. The nominees fill out information sheets that are given to the judges, who are local dignitaries, ahead of time. At the end of the show, the judges’ ballots are tallied by members of the Baylor administration. Twelve young men serve as escorts to the nominees during the formal attire appearance. Also during that round, each nominee is asked a question from their information sheet.

They are recognized in the Homecoming parade as well as in the annual on the pages of the organizations they represent, provided that an organization chooses to do this.

I got involved in this project through the Baylor Medical/Public Health missions trip under Dr. Lisa Baker and Dr. Troy Abell. Beth Robertson, A Chi Omega new member from PC ’11 was crowned the “Queen of Mardi Gras” this year. She was given this title by the Southwest Mardi Gras Association, which includes Lafayette and the smaller surrounding cities. They call her Queen of Evangeline, Queen to King Gabriel, which is part of an old Louisiana/Cajun folk story called Evangeline. She was presented with her court at a ball on Mardi Gras night, and also had a parade in her honor. In a suit and hat custom made for her, Beth also participated in a Queen’s Brunch and various other activities of the King.
Greek Life Advisor of the Year Greek Life is proud to recognize Dr. David Henry, advisor for Alpha Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Phi as the Advisor of the Year for 2010! Each year we honor an advisor who has shown tremendous dedication and guidance to a Greek Organization. Chapters have nominated advisors that they feel have made a difference within the organization. This advisor has given countless hours and devotion to the organization. The ladies of Alpha Delta Pi wrote in his nomination application: “Having this man as a committed advisor has made a world of difference. He visits our homecoming float site, provides feedback during SING and Stompfest practices, attends almost every one of our functions, and hosts a Christmas party each year for our chapter. He encourages new members to ask for help when in need, offers his home as a place of rest and study, and is always putting the chapter before himself. Our chapter could not ask for a better faculty member to serve us.
