Welcome to the Bunnik Way of travel Get packed for the adventure of a lifetime with Bunnik Tours in 2020. We're bringing you the South and Central America tours you know and love, and then some. Maximum Group Size 20

Tailored for Australians by Australians

We first started travelling to this vast continent more than 30 years ago, but the colourful cultures, incredible ruins and warmth of the locals keep drawing us back. From the fjords and glaciers of Chile and Argentina to the towering Andean mountain ranges, and the marvellous Incan and Mayan civilisations to bustling modern cities, there's always something new to discover in South and Central America. Our itineraries are crafted to really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer through a balance of organised sightseeing, special local experiences and time for independent exploration. We know that some of the best experiences are when you wander away from the group and make your own discoveries. In creating our small group tours, we are driven by two guiding principles. First, everything we do is about your experience, which is why we only run tours with a maximum of 20 people - that's less time waiting, more time exploring. Second, when done properly, tourism can be an incredible force for good that generates economic and social benefits in the places we visit.

Best Tour Operator - International We're thrilled to have been named the Best Tour Operator - International at the 2019 NTIA. We're committed to delivering the best experience to our clients and this recognition means so much to us!

More than a checklist, our small group tours connect people, places and cultures, which helps to break down barriers, creates lifelong memories and, best of all, shares the benefits of tourism with all. So come, join our family of travellers and explore the world with equal parts wonder, good humour and curiosity. Let's discover this incredible planet and its inhabitants, and experience South and Central America the ‘Bunnik Way’! Dennis, Marion & Sacha Bunnik

Unique, balanced itineraries

Tips included

Less time waiting for others, more time with your guide and room to spread out on the bus - small groups really do give you a better holiday experience.

We include return international airfares from Australia as part of the tour package. This allows us to offer you a complete, stress-free holiday experience.

Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Our ‘optional extras’ are based on specialinterest activities that don’t always appeal to everyone, meaning they’re truly optional.

Our itineraries are designed to really capture the essence of the places we visit - both on the tourist trail and off it. Multinight stops, unique local experiences and free time combine to create amazing journeys.

Tipping is not part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping often makes up a large part of people's wages, so it's important to get it right. That's why we include it from the start!

SMALL GROUP TOURING

MAXIMUM

GROUP SIZE

®

Benefits of small group touring Group touring has many wellknown benefits. With all the logistics taken care of, you’re able to sit back and enjoy every moment of your holiday. See more for your money and make great friends along the way. However, there is one downside to traditional coach touring that nobody talks about - the practicality of travelling in a large group.

because the guide is busy with everybody else. These issues exist on all large group tours, whether they are 3 or 5 star.

There’s a lot of waiting for everybody to catch up or just to get on or off the bus, the extra time taken to allocate hotel rooms, check-in or order at a restaurant. Then there's being told where to sit on the bus and not getting the chance to have your questions answered

It is for this reason that Bunnik Tours pioneered the concept of small group touring. Small group touring, where our maximum group size will never exceed 20 passengers, where we won’t ever hide behind the vagaries of average group sizes or stretch the

definition of a small group to extend to 40 people. In a small group you still have all the benefits of a group tour, but none of the irritations of travelling with a large group. Because we know that a smaller group makes for some unforgettable experiences.

Travelling the Bunnik Way means touring in a small group made up of like-minded people. People who want to connect with the places and cultures they visit. People who share a love and passion for this incredible planet and its inhabitants. With you in mind, our itineraries include a balance between:

The Bunnik Way 6

all the famous landmarks that you rightly expect to see on tour unique local experiences that only small groups can access plenty of time for independent exploration and discovery. We believe there is no better way to create lifelong memories and really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer!

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Just some of the reasons why smaller is better

More time with your guide Our low guest-to-guide ratio means you’ll have more one-on-one time to ask questions and take advantage of your guide’s expert local knowledge.

Less time waiting

More space on the bus

Getting on and off the bus, hotel checkins, comfort stops, meals - with a smaller group, everything is easier and quicker, giving you more time to enjoy your holiday.

Our groups are small, but our vehicles are not! You’ll have plenty of room to spread out with ample spare seats.

More hotel choice

Better views

Getting off the tourist trail

Big groups stay in the big hotel chains. We have the flexibility to choose from a wider range of accommodation based on factors such as character, service and location.

Being in a small group means you’ll get a better view of the places we visit. You won’t have to jostle with dozens of fellow travellers to get the best views and photo opportunities.

The logistical challenges of large groups mean that they are restricted to places and experiences that can cater for large numbers. Small groups can get off the beaten track and really experience a destination.

More fun!

Being a responsible tourist

Being in a small group means you get to know your fellow travellers and many of our guests establish lasting friendships on our tours.

Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our small tour groups are low-impact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see.

NO HIDDEN EXTRAS WE INCLUDE MORE! The integrity of our family name stands behind every tour we sell. We are committed to transparency in our advertising, pricing and tour inclusions. There are no unsubstantiated, over-inflated 'typical' or 'normally' comparison prices here, on our website or in our advertising. Just genuine value for money and a tonne of sightseeing experiences for an unforgettable small group tour.

No Hidden Extras Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Our ‘optional extras’ are based on special-interest activities that don’t always appeal to everyone, meaning they’re truly optional.

Special Experiences A tour through South and Central America with Bunnik Tours is not just about clocking up countries or ticking off major sights. Of course we’ll show you the famous attractions, but by staying an extra day here and there, and moving beyond the regular tourist areas, you’ll discover the real essence of the places we visit.

Transportation We like to mix our transportation up when we travel because we believe it makes for a better holiday. After all, anybody can give you a coach tour. For us it’s all about the experience!

Tipping Made Easy Tipping is not part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping is expected in many of the countries we visit and often makes up a large part of people's wages, so it's important to get it right. That's why we include it!

Meals Breakfast is included daily along with group welcome and farewell dinners. We’ll also include some special dining experiences along the way and meals where it might otherwise be tricky to get it for yourself. We purposefully do not include all meals to allow you the opportunity to eat outside a hotel setting and really experience life as a local.

Nights We include multi-night stops to give you time to breathe and take in your surrounds. It’s about finding that balance between making the most of your time away and recognising that you are on holidays and need the time to just ‘be’.

Character Accommodation From one of Argentina's oldest estancias located on sprawling ranch grounds to a Guatemalan conventturned-luxury hotel and museum, if it’s worth the experience, we’ll include it.

8

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Airfares included We include return international airfares from Australia as part of the tour package. It allows us to offer you a complete, stress-free holiday package yet still gives you the flexibility to extend your stay or upgrade to premium economy or business class.

We’re flexible Did we mention we're flexible? If you'd like to fly out to your destination earlier or spend a few extra days away at the end of your tour, we're happy to assist. Anything is possible, just ask our friendly team of consultants.

Upgrade to business class If you are looking for that extra bit of comfort, then we are also able to upgrade your flights to premium economy or business class. We have access to some of the best rates in the industry so if you are travelling for an extra-special birthday or celebration, or just simply prefer to travel this way, then be sure to ask your travel consultant for more details.

TRANSPORT & ACCOMMODATION

How we travel Like all tour companies, we have clean, comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles. Our small group policy means there are always plenty of empty seats. Where we differ is that we offer much more than just coaches. We like to mix it up because we believe it makes for a better holiday. After all, anybody can give you a coach tour. For us it’s all about the experience!

Boat

Chiva, tuk tuk and classic car

On foot

Whether it's fishing for piranha on the Amazon River, getting up close to the advancing Perito Moreno Glacier, exploring Lake Titicaca by hydrofoil or enjoying lunch on board an authentic Mexican trajinera as it floats through the Xochimilco waterways, taking to the water in South and Central America is always an exciting adventure.

It's definitely easier to get around in a small group, and it can be more fun, too! Venturing into the rainforest on board a typical Chiva bus, making your way to visit the Mayan god Maximón by tuk tuk and cruising the streets of Havana's Malecon District in classic cars are great ways to break away from the more traditional modes of transport on our tours.

Some of the best sights in South and Central America can only be reached on foot. Whether you're making your way through the Amazon Jungle, exploring the many trails of El Chaltén, enjoying a canopy walk through the Sucusari Reserve or walking through the thick and steamy jungle to see Tikal, one thing is certain - you'll need some sturdy and comfortable walking shoes!

10

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Where we stay Our small group sizes mean we can stay where the big groups can’t. Location, character and cleanliness beat bland chain hotels every time. From one of Argentina's oldest estancias located on sprawling ranch grounds to a Guatemalan conventturned-luxury hotel and museum, if it’s worth the experience, we’ll include it.

Our ratings

Hotel Atitlán

Inkaterra Hotel

In South and Central America we use 3 to 5 star hotels - clean, comfortable and in the right location. All rooms have private facilities and daily breakfast is included.

Surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens, Hotel Atitlán is one of Guatemala's finest and most charming boutique hotels. The interior design and décor reflect the elegant Spanish colonial style of an 18th century Guatemalan plantation, while outside you can relax in a modern infinty pool overlooking Lake Atitlán.

When we visit Machu Picchu we stay at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. Beautifully designed to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding cloud forest, this intimate Andean village is on the doorstep of 214 acres of exquisite natural beauty.

Belmond Hotel das Cataratas Spend two nights in luxury 5 star accommodation when we visit the breathtaking Iguazu Falls, staying just a stone's throw away from the falls.

NOTHING BEATS LOCAL KNOWLEDGE All of our guides are carefully selected for their expertise, passion and genuine love of their country. Dennis, Marion and Sacha travel each year around the world, conducting intensive training sessions and sharing their insight into how Australians really love to experience a destination on tour. You’ll find our guides have an energy and enthusiasm that is infectious and once you’ve experienced a Bunnik tour, we’re sure you’ll agree that we have some of the best tour guides in the world. In short, these important members of our family are Bunnik Tours!

Carlos, Ecuador

David, Guatemala

Miguel, Chile

Carlos considers himself lucky to be born in Ecuador. While it's only a small country, it's one that continues to teach him new things. With 18 years of experience showing people around his beautiful country, Carlos has definitely found his passion. One of his favourite parts about his job is all the friendships he's made over the years.

A devoted and loving Guatemalan, David has worked as a tour guide since 2004. Having visited over 70 ancient archaeological sites and almost every corner of Mesoamerica, his knowledge is second to none. David's favourite quote is "a picture is worth a thousand words, but an experience is worth a thousand pictures" and he can't wait to experience even more of the world.

Growing up in the scenic, lakeside town of Puerto Varas, Miguel was always amazed by the beauty Chile's lakes region had to offer. Once he realised he could share the magic of his home country with tourists as a career there was no turning back. It's his absolute privilege to show off his corner of the world to all guests on a Bunnik Tour.

Inca Trail Optional trek

Peru

Many of our tours travelling to Peru include the option of hiking a portion of the famous Inca Trail! Mind-blowing and magical, this journey will leave you marvelling at the achievements of this ancient civilisation. From the incredible archaeological complex of Chachabamba to the impressive ruins of Wiñay Wayna built into the steep countryside and the picturesque Sun Gate of Inti Punku, it’ll be hard to catch your breath, and not just because of the altitude! Ending in the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, there is no better way to tick off this unique bucket list item.

A good level of fitness is required, and altitude levels will range from 2,400-2,700m. The portion of the trek we'll be completing begins at the ‘Km 104’ train station and covers 13km over a 7-8 hour period. Please note: Minimum and maximum numbers may apply. Solo supplementary pricing applies. The trek is strictly limited to permit availability and must be pre-booked at the time of tour booking. The trek is not available in February due to trail closure.

Let’s talk fitness At Bunnik Tours, we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging. We have a duty of care to all tour participants and the tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all our clients to prioritise your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours. Our goal is for all our travellers to enjoy their tour, not struggle through it! This is why we want to work with you to ensure you are on the best possible tour for your fitness level. We do reserve the right to refuse bookings if we feel that the requirements of the tour are too demanding. Bunnik Tours are for independently-minded travellers with good levels of mobility.

Our tours include:

Bunnik Tours travellers need to:

1. Generous amounts of free time

1. Be able to walk for a minimum of 2-3 hours on uneven surfaces, on any given day (e.g. walking through the jungle at Tikal in Guatemala)

2. Lots of walking 3. Local and authentic experiences including various modes of transport and accommodation

2. Walk up multiple flights of stairs and short, steep hills 3. Stand for a minimum of 20 minutes without needing to sit down, often in hot/humid climates 4. Carry their own luggage 5. Get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, including small boats 6. Be able to manage extended periods at high altitude (3,000-4,000 metres) in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia

Please note: Passengers who are 75 and over will be required to obtain a doctor’s clearance before travelling. bunniktours.com.au
