Tailored for Australians by Australians

Egypt and the Middle East hold a special place in our hearts; between the three of us, we’ve visited the region more than 100 times. From the must-see ancient monuments of Egypt including the awe-inducing Abu Simbel, sleeping under the stars in a Bedouin-style desert camp to sampling wines in Golan, Israel, we include more on our tours. You can expect to see more, experience more and enjoy more on a Bunnik Tour - with no hidden extras! In creating our small group tours we are driven by two guiding principles. First, everything we do is about your experience, which is why we only run tours with a maximum of 20 people—less time waiting, more time exploring. Second, when done properly, tourism can be an incredible force for good that generates economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our itineraries are crafted to really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer through a balance of organised sightseeing, special local experiences and time for independent exploration. We know that some of the best experiences are when you wander away from the group and make your own discoveries.

Best Tour Operator - International We're thrilled to have been named the Best Tour Operator - International at the 2019 NTIA. We're committed to delivering the best experience to our clients and this recognition means so much to us!

More than a checklist, our small group tours connect people, places and cultures. This helps to break down barriers, creates lifelong memories and, best of all, shares the benefits of tourism with all. Discover our passion for this incredible planet and its inhabitants, and experience Egypt and the Middle East the ‘Bunnik Way’! Dennis, Marion & Sacha Bunnik

Unique, balanced itineraries

Tips included

Less time waiting for others, more time with your guide and room to spread out on the bus - small groups really do give you a better holiday experience.

We include return international airfares from Australia as part of the tour package. This allows us to offer you a complete, stress-free holiday experience.

Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Our ‘optional extras’ are based on specialinterest activities that don’t always appeal to everyone, meaning they’re truly optional.

Our itineraries are designed to really capture the essence of the places we visit - both on the tourist trail and off it. Multinight stops, unique local experiences and free time combine to create amazing journeys.

Tipping is not part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping often makes up a large part of people's wages, so it's important to get it right. That's why we include it from the start!

SMALL GROUP TOURING

MAXIMUM

GROUP SIZE

®

Benefits of small group touring Group touring has many wellknown benefits. With all the logistics taken care of, you’re able to sit back and enjoy every moment of your holiday. See more for your money and make great friends along the way. However, there is one downside to traditional coach touring that nobody talks about - the practicality of travelling in a large group.

because the guide is busy with everybody else. These issues exist on all large group tours, whether they are 3 or 5 star.

There’s a lot of waiting for everybody to catch up or just get on or off the bus, the extra time taken to allocate hotel rooms, check-in or order at a restaurant. Then there is being told where to sit on the bus and not getting the chance to have your questions answered

It is for this reason that Bunnik Tours pioneered the concept of small group touring. Small group touring where our maximum group size will never exceed 20 passengers, where we won’t ever hide behind the vagaries of average group sizes or stretch the

definition of a small group to extend to 40 people. In a small group you still have all the benefits of a group tour, but none of the irritations of travelling with a large group. Because we know that a smaller group makes for some unforgettable experiences.

Travelling the Bunnik Way means touring in a small group made up of like-minded people. People who want to connect with the places and cultures they visit. People who share a love and passion for this incredible planet and its inhabitants. With you in mind, our itineraries include a balance between:

The Bunnik Way 6

all the famous landmarks that you rightly expect to see on a tour unique local experiences that only small groups can access plenty of time for independent exploration and discovery. We believe there is no better way to create lifelong memories and really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer!

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Just some of the reasons why smaller is better

More time with your guide Our low guest-to-guide ratio means you’ll have more one-on-one time to ask questions and take advantage of your guide’s expert local knowledge.

Less time waiting

More space on the bus

Getting on and off the bus, hotel check-ins, comfort stops, meals - with a smaller group everything is easier and quicker, giving you more time to enjoy your holiday.

Our groups are small but our vehicles are not! You’ll have plenty of room to spread out with ample spare seats.

More hotel choice

Better views

Getting off the tourist trail

Big groups stay in the big hotel chains. We have the flexibility to choose from a wider range of accommodation based on factors such as character, service and location.

Being in a small group means you’ll get a better view of the places we visit. You won’t have to jostle with dozens of fellow travellers to get the best views and photo opportunities.

The logistical challenges of large groups mean that they are restricted to places and experiences that can cater for large numbers. Small groups can get off the beaten track and really experience a destination.

More fun!

Being a responsible tourist

Being in a small group means you get to know your fellow travellers and many of our guests establish lasting friendships on our tours.

Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our small tour groups are low-impact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see.

NO HIDDEN EXTRAS WE INCLUDE MORE! The integrity of our family name stands behind every tour we sell. We are committed to transparency in our advertising, pricing and tour inclusions. There are no unsubstantiated, over-inflated 'typical' or 'normally' comparison prices here, on our website or in our advertising. Just genuine value for money and a tonne of sightseeing experiences for an unforgettable small group tour.

No Hidden Extras Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Our ‘optional extras’ are based on special-interest activities that don’t always appeal to everyone, meaning they’re truly optional.

Special Experiences A tour through the Middle East with Bunnik Tours is not just about clocking up countries or ticking off major sights. Of course we’ll show you the famous attractions, but by staying an extra day here and there, and moving beyond the regular tourist areas, you’ll discover the real essence of the places we visit.

Transportation We like to mix our transportation up when we travel because we believe it makes for a better holiday. After all, anybody can give you a bus tour. For us it’s all about the experience!

Tipping Made Easy Tipping is not part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping is expected in many of the countries we visit and often makes up a large part of people's wages, so it's important to get it right. That's why we include it!

Meals Breakfast is included daily along with group welcome and farewell dinners. We’ll also include some special dining experiences along the way and meals where it might otherwise be tricky to get it for yourself.

Nights We include multi-night stops to give you time to breathe and take in your surrounds. It’s about finding that balance between making the most of your time away and recognising that you are on holidays and need the time to just ‘be’.

Character Accommodation From sleeping under a blanket of stars at a Bedouin-style desert camp in Wadi Rum to meandering down the Nile River on a luxuriously appointed dahabiya, if it's worth the experience, we'll include it.

8

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Airfares included We include return international airfares from Australia as part of the tour package, using only reputable carriers such as Emirates and Etihad. It allows us to offer you a complete, stress-free holiday package yet still gives you the flexibility to extend your stay or upgrade to business class.

We’re flexible Did we mention we're flexible? If you'd like to fly out to your destination earlier or spend a few extra days away at the end of your tour, we're happy to assist. Anything is possible, just ask our friendly team of consultants.

Upgrade to business class If you are looking for that extra bit of comfort, then we are also able to upgrade your flights to business class. We have access to some of the best rates in the industry so if you are travelling for an extra-special birthday or celebration, or just simply prefer to travel this way, then be sure to ask your travel consultant for more details.

TRANSPORT & ACCOMMODATION How we travel Like all tour companies, we have clean, comfortable, air-conditioned vehicles. Our small group policy means there are always plenty of empty seats. Where we differ is that we offer much more than just buses. We like to mix it up because we believe it makes for a better holiday. From feluccas to cruise ships and 4WDs, our modes of transport are as varied as our tours. After all, anybody can give you a bus tour. For us it’s all about the experience!

Jeep safari in Wadi Rum

Felucca cruise on the Nile

Luxury appointed dahabiya

Board the back of an open-top jeep to explore the spectacular desert of Wadi Rum. Heading out into the sands, the vehicle’s open sides afford 360-degree views of this amazing landscape which evolves at every turn. We’ll make several stops along the way to soak up the best views and immerse ourselves in the sights, sounds and scents of the desert.

The traditional felucca sailing boat has remained a primary transportation link over the centuries. The wooden sail boat offers a quiet and calm way to cruise the Nile. It also affords you the opportunity to soak up life alongside the river. Glide across the waters of Aswan past Kitchener’s Island and the Agha Khan Mausoleum for a wonderfully relaxing experience.

Relax in stylish luxury as you cruise the beautiful waters of the Nile - the lifeline of civilisation in Egypt since the Stone Age. Spending 7 nights aboard a luxuriously appointed dahabiya, you will meander towards various fascinating Egyptian sites while observing life along the banks of the river, admiring the skills of the boatmen who tack back and forth taking advantage of the gentle winds and currents.

Extra information on Nile Cruises 10

The luxury Nile cruises featured on all itineraries to Egypt operate between the cities of Luxor and Aswan. These cities lie only 240km apart which means this distance could easily be covered in only 1 or 2 days without stops. Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Where we stay Our small group sizes mean we can stay where the big groups can’t. Location, character and cleanliness beat bland chain hotels every time. From a desert camp in Jordan to a Nile cruise, if it’s worth the experience, we’ll include it. In Egypt, we stay in comfortable 4- and 5-star hotels and resorts. On the Nile we only use the best available 5-star (Egyptian standard) ships with well-appointed outside riverview cabins and delicious cuisine. Our Discover the Pharaohs small group tour offers a completely unique and authentic accommodation experience including 7 nights on a dahibiya cruise along the Nile and stays at the charming Villa Belle Epoque property. Our hotels in Jordan and Israel are 3½ to 5-star - clean, comfortable and selected for their character and location. While in Wadi Rum you’ll feel like Lawrence of Arabia in our million-star desert camps! For the Kenya and Tanzania part of our Cairo to Zanzibar tour, the accommodation ranges from magnificent luxury safari camps to 4-star lodges and hotels.

Le Meridien Pyramids, Cairo

Bedouin Camp, Wadi Rum

Nile Cruise

If anything says ‘location’ it’s Le Meridien Pyramids! This elegant hotel affords incredible views of the majestic Giza Pyramids. Take it all in from your sun lounge beside the heated outdoor pool. The hotel offers a variety of restaurants and a spa where guests can unwind with a relaxing massage after a busy day of sightseeing.

In Wadi Rum we spend the night in a Bedouin-style desert camp underneath a blanket of stars. You’ll enjoy the genuinely warm hospitality of the locals, while feasting on traditional Bedouin food. Share stories around the campfire before retiring for the night. Wake early to watch the changing colours as the sun rises over the desert.

Cruise the Nile in 5-star (Egyptian standard) style and comfort! Spacious and wellappointed cabins with private bathrooms make this a very comfortable way to travel. The food is plentiful and delicious, but above all else, it’s the staff who will make this part of your journey memorable as you cruise between Luxor and Aswan.

Get the Royal Treatment Step back in time to the golden era of archaeological discovery, an age of grandeur and exquisite service, beautifully combined with the best of today’s comforts, as you stay at the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, the Winter Palace in Luxor, the Marriott Mena House in Giza, the Kempinski Hotel on the Dead Sea and in an amazing luxury tent overlooking the desert of Wadi Rum. Our exclusive Egypt In-Style, Egypt & Jordan In-Style and Egypt, Israel & Jordan In-Style tours feature Egypt, Israel and Jordan’s most famous and luxurious hotels.

However, this allows us to spend more time sightseeing along the way stopping at amazing sites including the Luxor and Karnak Temples, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Valley of the Kings or Aswan. Additionally, each cruise itinerary will have an element of day time cruising allowing you to relax and see life along the river. bunniktours.com.au

BUNNIK TOURS: THE EGYPT SPECIALISTS For many people, visiting Egypt is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream. The memory of standing in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza for the first time, or descending into a tomb in the Valley of the Kings, stays with you forever. So it's important that your Egypt experience is the best it can be. And the only way to ensure that is to travel with an Egypt expert. Bunnik Tours is Australia’s Egypt expert. We’ve been running tours to Egypt and the Middle East for more than 15 years. During this time, we’ve looked after more than 1,000 small group tours and many thousands of wonder-struck Australian travellers. In short, we know Egypt well and we use our experience to ensure you have the best possible holiday. From the moment you’re met by our team at Cairo Airport, you’re in good hands. Our team includes the best and most experienced university-qualified Egyptologists who will bring the ancient monuments to life in a way that is both educational and fun.

Our Egyptian hotels and Nile cruise vessels have been carefully selected and offer a level of comfort that will enhance your overall holiday experience. And by including return international flights from Australia as part of the tour package, we’re with you every step of the way.

In 2012 Bunnik Tours received the BRW Excellence in Customer Service Award for our commitment to our clients and team during the 'Arab Spring'. This, together with the Bunnik family name, is your guarantee that your Egyptian experience will be everything you’ve imagined.

Our experience and knowledge of Egypt has allowed us to create a series of unique itineraries that showcase the very best this fascinating country has to offer, including a visit to Abu Simbel on every one of our tours to Egypt. We don't just skim the surface, we get under the skin and capture the very essence of this ancient country.

Marion Bunnik

The magic of Abu Simbel Following the curve of the gently sloping path around the hillside, you’ll catch your first glimpse of the giant temples of Abu Simbel and they will take your breath away! We know that the Abu Simbel temple complex is one of the highlights of any touring experience to Egypt, and we can't understand why many other tour companies only offer it as an optional extra. To us, Abu Simbel is such an important part of Egyptology that it must be included. That's why when you travel to Egypt with Bunnik Tours, you will visit Abu Simbel and experience for yourself the incredible legacy of Ramses II. Abu Simbel's twin temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a lasting monument to the pharaoh and his queen Nefertari. In an engineering feat in the 1960's, the complex was relocated in its entirety to an artificial hill high above the Aswan High Dam reservoir to protect the complex from flooding.

12

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

NOTHING BEATS LOCAL KNOWLEDGE All of our tour guides and Egyptologists are carefully selected for their expertise, passion and genuine love of their country. Dennis, Marion and Sacha travel yearly around the world, conducting intensive training sessions and sharing their insights into how Australians really love to experience a destination on tour. Our tour guides will help make the ruins of early civilisations in Jordan and Israel truly come alive! In Egypt, our team of Egyptologists includes university professors and some of the Egyptian Government’s most senior and well-respected archaeologists. But don’t let us give you the impression that our guides are dry and stuffy! As well as knowing their subject, they also know how to have fun and give you the best possible Egyptian experience.

Eman

Hassan

Mira

You'd be hard pressed to find a more qualified guide to bring the magical land of the pharaohs to life than our knowledgeable guide Eman. Highlights of Egypt

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Day 1. Depart Australia

Day 3. Giza B Our touring in Egypt begins at the oldest structures in existence, the amazing Great Pyramids of Giza, where construction began approximately 4,500 years ago. We’ll visit the nearby Great Sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a king, often referred to as the national symbol of Egypt. We’ll also discover the ancient capital of Memphis and the incredible Step Pyramid of Sakkara, believed to have been designed by the famous vizier of King Zoser, Imhotep. Day 4. Cairo Excursion B Today begins in the heart of lively Cairo with a visit to the world-famous Egyptian Museum, home to Tutankhamun’s priceless treasures and many other historic artefacts. There will also be time for an optional visit to the “Mummy Room”. We’ll then visit the 12th century Saladin Citadel of Cairo and the Mohammed Ali Mosque. Built in classic Turkish style, it resembles the great mosques of Istanbul. Our last stop is the 14th century Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, a major souk in Cairo’s Islamic District. Famous for its handmade crafts, it’s also the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Arabic coffee. There are no fixed prices here, so make sure you practice your haggling skills! Day 5. Giza - Aswan B Today we take a short flight to Aswan, gateway to the incredible history, temples and monuments of Upper Egypt. Here we’ll visit the High Dam, the magnificent Philae Temple on Agilkia Island and the Unfinished Obelisk. This afternoon we’ll relax on a cruise along the Nile on board a traditional felucca sailboat, observing life along the banks of the river as our boat takes advantage of the gentle winds and currents. Day 6. Aswan - Abu Simbel - BLD Nile Cruise An early start this morning to cross the desert. Our destination is the incredible twin temples of Abu Simbel. The temples were originally carved out of the mountainside during the reign of Pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC, as a monument to himself and his queen, Nefertari. Embark Cruise: Later this morning we’ll return to Aswan and board our Nile River cruise ship.

Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to discover Aswan further at your own pace or relax on board. Day 7. Nile Cruise BLD After breakfast we set sail for the Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the gods Sobek and Haroeris. We’ll then cruise onward to Edfu where we’ll visit the magnificent Temple of Horus, dedicated to the Falcon God. This beautiful ancient temple is one of the bestpreserved in Egypt and the second-largest after Karnak Temple. Continuing our journey, we cross the lock at Esna and sail on towards Luxor. Tonight we’ll experience a traditional galabeya party on board. Day 8. Nile Cruise BLD We’ll arrive in Luxor after breakfast and explore the fascinating Karnak Temple, dedicated to the Pharaoh Amun. Approximately 30 pharaohs contributed to the temple’s structure over time, which explains its monumental size! We’ll then visit Luxor Temple, once connected to Karnak Temple by a 3-kilometre-long Avenue of Sphinxes. Luxor Temple is also home to a 25-metre pink granite obelisk, which was part of a matching pair until the 1830s when one was given to France. It now stands in the centre of the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Day 9. Nile Cruise - Luxor B Disembark Cruise: We disembark the cruise after breakfast and set off to explore the West Bank - the world’s largest open-air museum! Our first stop is the Valley of the Kings. Carved deep into the limestone rock, each tomb has a similar pattern of three corridors, an antechamber and a sarcophagus chamber. We’ll be able to descend into some of the tombs to see examples of the elaborate and wellpreserved hieroglyphic paintings. Our next destination is the Temple of Hatshepsut. Regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful pharaohs, Queen Hatshepsut was one of only a few women to be given the title of pharaoh. We’ll then visit the Colossi of Memnon. Day 10. Luxor - Cairo BD Today we farewell Luxor as we transfer to the airport for our flight back to Cairo. This evening we’ll enjoy a group farewell dinner.
