From spotting the 'Big 5' running wild across the African plains to gazing across the sweeping desert landscapes of Sossusvlei and insightful local village visits, we include more on our tours. You can expect to see more, experience more and enjoy more on a Bunnik tour - with no hidden extras. Our itineraries are crafted to really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer through a balance of organised sightseeing and special local experiences. In creating our small group tours we are driven by two guiding principles. First, everything we do is about your experience, which is why we only run tours with a maximum of 12 people in Africa—less time waiting, more time exploring. Second, when done properly, tourism can be an incredible force for good that generates economic and social benefits in the places we visit. We hope you leave feeling more connected to these incredible communities. More than a checklist, our small group tours connect people, places and cultures, which helps to break down barriers, creates lifelong memories and, best of all, shares the benefits of tourism with everyone.

SMALL GROUP TOURING

MAXIMUM

GROUP SIZE

12 ®

Benefits of small group touring Group touring has many wellknown benefits. With all the logistics taken care of, you’re able to sit back and enjoy every moment of your holiday. See more for your money and make great friends along the way.

However, there is one downside to traditional coach touring that nobody talks about - the practicality of travelling in a large group. There's lots of waiting for everybody to catch up or just to get on or off the bus, the extra time taken to allocate hotel rooms, check-in or order at a restaurant. Then there's being told where to sit, the issue of missing out on views while on safari and not getting the

chance to have your questions answered because the guide is busy with everyone else. These issues exist on all large group tours, whether they are 3 or 5 star. It is for this reason that Bunnik Tours pioneered the concept of small group touring. Small group touring, where our maximum group size will never exceed 12 passengers in Africa, where we won’t ever hide behind the

vagaries of average group sizes or stretch the definition of a small group to extend to 40 people. In a small group you still have all the benefits of a group tour but none of the irritations of travelling with a large group. Because we know that a smaller group makes for some unforgettable experiences.

Travelling the Bunnik Way means touring in a small group made up of like-minded people. People who want to connect with the places and cultures they visit. People who share a love and passion for this incredible planet and its inhabitants. With you in mind, our itineraries include a balance between:

The Bunnik Way 6

all the famous landmarks that you rightly expect to see on a tour unique local experiences that only small groups can access plenty of time to relax in a destination. We believe there is no better way to create lifelong memories and really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer!

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Just some of the reasons why smaller is better

More time with your guide Our low guest-to-guide ratio means you’ll have more one-on-one time to ask questions and take advantage of your guide’s expert local knowledge.

Less time waiting

More fun on safari

Getting into and out of safari vehicles, hotel check-ins, comfort stops, meals - with a smaller group everything is easier and quicker, giving you more time to enjoy your holiday.

On safari our vehicles are 7- or 9person 4WDs so everyone gets close to the action. In East Africa our 4WDs travel with only 6 people in each meaning everyone gets a window seat! Our tours also only travel with a maximum of two 4WDs.

More accommodation choice

Better views

Getting off the tourist trail

We seek out the best. We use more unique lodges, and other accommodation options, like game camps, that add that extra special touch to your tour.

Being in a small group means you’ll get a better view of the animals we see. You won’t have to jostle with dozens of fellow travellers and safari vehicles to get the best views and photo opportunities.

The logistical challenges of large groups mean that they are restricted to places and experiences that can cater for large numbers. Small groups can get off the beaten track and really experience a destination.

More fun!

Being a responsible tourist

Being in a small group means you get to know your fellow travellers and many of our guests establish lasting friendships on our tours.

Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our small tour groups are low-impact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see.

NO HIDDEN EXTRAS WE INCLUDE MORE! The integrity of our family name stands behind every tour we sell. We are committed to transparency in our advertising, pricing and tour inclusions. There are no unsubstantiated, over-inflated 'typical' or 'normally' comparison prices here, on our website or in our advertising. Just genuine value for money and a tonne of sightseeing experiences for an unforgettable small group tour.

No Hidden Extras Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Our ‘optional extras’ are based on special-interest activities that don’t always appeal to everyone, meaning they’re truly optional.

Special Experiences A tour through Africa with Bunnik Tours is not just about clocking up countries or ticking off major sights. Of course we’ll show you the famous attractions, but by staying an extra day here and there, and heading out on safari, you’ll discover the real essence of the places we visit.

Transportation We like to mix our transportation up when we travel because we believe it makes for a better holiday. After all, anybody can give you a coach tour. For us it’s all about the experience!

Tipping Made Easy Tipping is not part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping is expected in many of the countries we visit and often makes up a large part of people's wages, so it's important to get it right. That's why we include it!

Meals Breakfast is included daily along with group welcome and farewell dinners. We’ll also include some special dining experiences along the way and meals where it might otherwise be tricky to get it for yourself.

Nights We include multi-night stops to give you time to breathe and take in your surrounds. It’s about finding that balance between making the most of your time away and recognising that you are on holidays and need the time to just ‘be’.

Character Accommodation In Africa, we carefully select our accommodation based on location. From Morocco, all the way to South Africa, many of the properties are located in mind-blowing national parks and amongst outstanding landscapes.

G

Guaranteed Departure Keep an eye out for this symbol as it indicates the minimum passenger numbers required for a guaranteed departure. Most tours in Africa can depart with as little as 4 passengers!

Permits Included We don’t like added extras, so our tour, independent and extension package prices include entrance fees to all national parks and reserves. We’ve also covered the permits for gorilla and golden monkey tracking. To give you an idea, a gorilla-tracking permit costs approximately $1,500pp US and a golden monkey permit around $100pp US.

8

Small Groups | Unforgettable Experiences

Airfares included We include return international airfares from Australia as part of the tour package, using reputable carriers such as South African Airways and Emirates. It allows us to offer you a complete, stress-free holiday package yet still gives you the flexibility to extend your stay or upgrade to business class.

We’re flexible Did we mention we're flexible? If you'd like to fly out to your destination earlier or spend a few extra days away at the end of your tour, we're happy to assist. Anything is possible, just ask our friendly team of consultants.

Upgrade to business class If you are looking for that extra bit of comfort, then we are also able to upgrade your flights to business class. We have access to some of the best rates in the industry so if you are travelling for an extra-special birthday or celebration, or just simply prefer to travel this way, then be sure to ask your travel consultant for more details.

TRANSPORT & UNIQUE LOCATIONS How we travel Transport in Africa can be an adventure in its own right! We use a range of different transport to give you the best vantage points to embark on the thrilling search for game. We only use reputable local operators with well-trained drivers and wellmaintained vehicles to navigate the sometimes challenging conditions. Like all tour companies, we use clean, comfortable touring vehicles but we also like to mix it up because we believe it makes for a better holiday!

AFRICA EXPERIENCES

Cultural spotlight Africa is famous for its incredible wildlife, but there’s also vibrant culture to be found in almost every region we visit. From the Timkat Festival in Ethiopia, the Himba people in Namibia, the local people in Samburu and the Nanyuki Spinners and Weavers in Kenya, there's so much to discover!

Timkat Festival by Jean RebiffĂŠ

Along with animals, our itineraries put an emphasis on experiencing cultures, interacting with the locals and visiting rural villages because we believe this helps to benefit the communities and really capture the essence of the places we visit.

Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our small groups are low-impact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see.

Responsible Tourism 12

In Africa we only use professionally accredited guides and expert trackers trained in animal behaviour and protection. Guides undergo rigorous training in ethics and procedures to ensure minimal impact on the environment and the wildlife. They are also required to report any unusual activities. We only visit national parks and private concessions where animals roam freely in their natural habitat, and we strictly adhere to rules designed to protect the natural environment and prevent human/wildlife conflict.

Maasai Mara, Kenya by Emily Fraser

A day on safari! Safari is the quintessential African experience. Whether you’re spotting lions in the Maasai Mara, watching elephants drink at a waterhole in Chobe National Park, or tracking wildebeest in the Ngorongoro Crater - every day is a new adventure. An early start!

Relax & recharge

We wake up with the sun to beat the heat of the day and witness the wildlife and landscapes bathed in the beautiful morning glow.

After an exciting morning we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast. Then it’s time to relax, lounge by the pool with a book or explore the grounds.

Dressed in light, layered clothing and sturdy shoes, and after a quick coffee or tea, we board our safari vehicle. The mornings can still be quite cold so we suggest you also bring a scarf and beanie.

bunniktours.com.au

There’s some more time at leisure after lunch (you might want to catch up on sleep after our early-morning start).

Our safari vehicles are normally 7 or 9 person 4WDs so everyone gets close to the action. For touring in East Africa, our 4WDs travel with only 6 people in each - meaning everyone gets a window seat. In some of the national parks our vehicles are open-top, and in others we’re enclosed for protection.

Evening excitement

Have your camera and binoculars ready. Our drivers and guides are experts and will find the best spots to see a myriad of local wildlife over the next few hours.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Africa without sundowners overlooking the vast savannahs. We’ll then return to our lodge and prepare for dinner and an evening under the stars.

As the sun begins to set, we prepare for our second game drive of the day. We head off on another incredible game drive, this time to capture magnificent wildlife and scenery in the golden hour.

13

THE GREAT MIGRATION

Maswa March Game Reserve Lake Eyasi

One of the world’s 10 natural wonders, Africa’s amazing wildebeest migration occurs annually from July to November across the vast plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania to the sprawling Maasai Mara in Kenya. As the waterholes dry out, herds of wildebeest, gazelle and zebra must keep moving north in search of food and water. Witness the real circle of life as more than 6 million hooves stampede, crossing crocodile-filled rivers and drawing out lions and other hunters in search of prey. This is a truly special time to visit! The migration begins with the birth of more than 400,000 wildebeest calves in the rolling plains of the southern Serengeti from January to March. The herds travel south through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area during this time before returning north. To witness part of the migration, you should plan to be in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater from January to March and from mid to late July to early August in the Serengeti. Or visit Kenya’s Maasai Mara from midAugust until the summer rains begin in November. *This map should be used as a guide only. As it is a naturally occurring event the locations and timing may change from year to year.

BOTSWANA

Day 1. Victoria Falls David Livingstone named Victoria Falls in honour of his queen, yet the local Botswana and Makololo people call it ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ (‘the smoke that thunders’). One of the largest waterfalls in the world, it has a width of 1.7 kilometres, a drop of 108 metres and a flow rate of over 5 million cubic metres per minute - Victoria Falls is indeed a force to be reckoned with! On arrival in Victoria Falls, you'll transfer to your hotel. Later this afternoon, enjoy a sunset cruise along the magnificent Zambezi River. Relax with a sundowner as you gaze out onto the banks of the river and experience one of the most spectacular sunsets in Africa. During your cruise you’ll be sure to see many animal species, including elephant, giraffe and crocodiles.

Day 1. Kasane - Chobe National Park D On arrival you will be transferred to your lodge which will be your base to explore the famous Chobe National Park in Botswana. Established in 1968, the park covers almost 12,000 square kilometres, encompassing floodplains, swamps and woodland. Chobe is most famous for its high concentration of elephants - almost 50,000 can be found here, more than anywhere else in Africa. See them go about their lives along the great Chobe-Linyanti River System. This afternoon you’ll experience an unforgettable cruise along the Chobe River. Its exotic banks boast one of the densest populations of wildlife on the African continent. Look out for leopards, lions, buffalo, waterbuck, roan, eland, sable, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and, if you are lucky you may spot one of the very rare puku.

Day 2. Victoria Falls BD See why Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world today. While walking through the lush rainforest, you’ll enjoy various vantage points where you can view this natural phenomenon. Witness the spray and rapturous thunder of the falls as millions of tons of water tumble over the ridge into the deep narrow gorge, where the Zambezi continues its eastward course, some 110 metres below, towards the Indian Ocean. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure, why not visit the Elephant Walk Market and purchase local handicrafts? This evening enjoy a special African Boma dinner, including dancing, singing and drumming.

Day 2. Chobe National Park BLD Today is all about further exploring Chobe National Park as you enjoy amazing early morning and evening game drives. You’ll see herds of buffalo, lion prides, packs of hyena and solitary leopards who like to live on the granite ‘kopjes’ (small hills) that dot the landscape. The birdlife here is also prolific, common species include the sacred ibis, Egyptian goose, the ubiquitous cormorants, most members of the kingfisher family and the unmistakable African fish eagle.
