NEWS RELEASE October 15, 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Local branch donates $10,000 to TRCC THOMPSON, MB, Friday, October 15, 2010 – The Thompson Regional Community Centre has been boosted by a $10,000 donation from Wescan Electrical Company. The companies’ northern Manitoba branch is located in Thompson where the money will go towards the completion of the TRCC retrofit. Mayor Tim Johnston received a cheque from Bob Modjeski, vice-president of Wescan, in the lobby of the TRCC today, “we are excited about this contribution. When this phase of development is complete, the residents of Thompson will have a reason to be proud when they walk through the doors,” said Johnston. The donation is the result of a September corporate sponsorship breakfast hosted in Winnipeg by Manitoba Hydro on behalf of the City of Thompson and the TRCC. Wescan, an electrical and mechanical installation, design consulting, and communication services firm, is the first corporate sponsor to come forward. The TRCC retrofit is in its third and final phase of development and will incorporate the standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). It will consist of a multi-sport playing field, arts and cultural programming space, a fitness area, a boardwalk, food services and administration offices. The City of Thompson is the third largest city in Manitoba and home to a diverse population of 13,446 people. Known as the Hub of the North, Thompson is the regional trade and service centre of northern Manitoba, representing an additional 36,000 – 65,000 Manitobans. As such, it has all of the services and amenities that would be expected in a much larger urban centre. The city is located 830 kilometers north of the international border, and 739 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Winnipeg. -30-
