Battalion Organization Day

On August 3rd, the Bulldogs had the opportunity to attend Organization Day in Bamberg. This was a Battalion level event that allowed us the chance to interact with Soldiers from other companies. There were many exciting activities to participate in. However, underneath all the fun and games, an intense competition was going on. 106 th FMCO, HHC, and 504th Signal competed in dodge ball, flag football, and basketball to win the Battalion Commander’s Cup. The competition was fierce, but 106th came out ahead by winning both dodge ball and basketball. The cup will rotate between the different detachments for a few months each. MAJ Luher also offered the soldiers a three day pass for winning the cup (thanks to SFC Drakakis for the suggestion). There was an abundance of food provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, who adopted the 16th STB. SPC Rapizza helped in the preparation of the food while the command team served the Soldiers and community members. The Bulldogs enjoyed activities such as the zip-line and face painting. Even MAJ Luher got in on the action! Everyone was interested in seeing the MP working dogs and watching how they sniff out drugs and detain suspects. The dunk tank and pie throwing events were entertaining and helped raise money. By: SPC Johnson.

Sergeant Time Training with the Bull Dogs Thanks to CPT Graziano, CPL Braimah, and the friendly staff at the Engagement Skills Trainer site, Bravo conducted a successful Sergeant’s Time Training on July 26. The EST 2000 is capable of performing a variety of functions, such as group and zero, pop-up qualification, and team or squad level scenarios. The system is capable of using a variety of weapons such as the M16A2, M4, M203 Grenade Launcher, Shotgun, M249 SAW, M240B, and the M2. The group and zero portion was very detailed; the computer recorded every shot we made, told us if it was a good group and it showed when you had breathing, trigger squeeze, or sight picture problems by showing how you approach your shot by moving the muzzle and whether the weapon was moving abnormally after each shot. The qualification was realistic because you knew exactly when and if you hit a target. The squad exercises varied, and were also realistic because it required a lot of attention to detail and communication between squad members.

EVACUATING A CASUALTY By PFC Rosales

On Thursday August 2, I conducted a CLS class on evacuating a casualty. To prepare, SPC Rapizza and I came up with several different scenarios. I started with a power point that covered the basic steps for care under fire, tactical filed care, and combat casualty evacuation care. To make this training as realistic as possible, we alternated using a dummy as the casualty and an actual person. We used dummy rifles, a litter and soldiers were in full battle rattle.

With this being my first class I have to admit I was pretty nervous on how it would turn out, however the end result was great. The entire Detachment showed a tremendous amount of motivation which made the class much more fun. After the training was done some of my Detachments’ recent WLC graduates were very knowledgeable and gave me some pointers on how to improve on my next class.
