GMPg

GIS Management Plan for Golf courses Buiting Advies has developed a whole new way of providing information for golf courses: a GIS golf Management Plan (GMPg). A GMPg is a digital management system based on a Geographic Information System (GIS), whereby information is linked to a digital map. The new GMPg is unique in the golf world: there’s no other system where you can so easily store and process all the necessary information for greenkeeping, course maintenance and golfers. You can consult or share the information with others at any time on your PC, your mobile field computer - in the field or even on your mobile phone. In short, a GMPg enables course managers, green keepers and golfers to optimize the management and use of their golf course.

In addition a GMPg acts as a management archive: past data can be easily retrieved. That way, with one click on the digital map, you can see where the bunker on hole 2 was before the renovation, how the green of hole 6 has been repositioned or what the fairway contour there already looked like last year. And this is very handy, especially if you want to assess whether a change also really is an improvement.

Greenkeeping The most important layer of a GMPg is the layer with the Basic information and administration for greenkeeping. All course information is clearly presented in this part of the GMPg. This involves issues such as location and size of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers and semi-rough. The exact location of pipe lines and sprinklers can be immediately called up. Other important information like the location of cables, the position of drainage or siting of buildings is also to be found in the GMPg. Naturally it is possible to add management information. That can be done for each individual course component, hence the green of hole 12 or the back tee on hole 18, but also for example, all greens in one go. In this way the level of fertilizer is easily determined in one go. You determine which course components are linked with it. Thus it may be handy to link the greens of hole 1 to 9 and hole 10 to 18 or even all the greens together. A GMPg is always tailor-made by us, hence built up based on your ideas and requirements. The head greenkeeper always has access to all information in the GMPg. With one click he can retrieve data from all elements or add new information. He can quickly and easily find the exact area of the fairway on hole 7, the contour of the bunker on hole 10 or read the exact location of a sprinkler point or gas pipeline. Also, he can indicate when the tees were last fertilized or pricked. And all of this not only from an office, but also directly on the course using a field computer or mobile phone.

Within the Greenkeeping layer a number of standard layers are included. Buiting Advies always custom develops a GMPg. This means that additional layers can be added, deleted or specially designed for you as desired.

Nature Management

Map layers work blocks nature elements individual trees woods heathland natural rough ponds

The quality of the green environment plays an important role in the overall perception of the golfer. Hence the Nature Management layer is included in the GMPg. This layer is designed for organizing the greenery management on your golf course according to plan. This involves management of individual trees, heathland, grassland, woods and ponds. The Nature Management layer functions as a complete work plan and allows you to manage the nature on your course in an efficient manner. This enhances the identity and visual quality of your golf course, which is important for a high rating! Also within the Nature Management layer, attention is paid to the future appearance of the course. In this way the layer offers the possibility of planning new greenery elements or of giving structured shape to the planting of trees. This approach guarantees that the current environmental quality is also maintained in the future, or even improved. Within the Nature Management layer a number of standard layers are also included. This also means that additional layers can be added, deleted or specially designed here for you as desired.

GEO Sustainable course management is becoming increasingly important. The current standard is the GEO certificate. To obtain this certificate, a large quantity of data is required to be recorded. This can be simply and efficiently done within a GMPg. By doing this, GEO costs you little time, while the data is still clearly accessible. Within the GEO layer it immediately becomes clear where pesticides, fuels and chemicals are stored. Flora and fauna data can also be found and consulted in this layer. This allows you to optimally take account of existing plants and animals during the implementation of the management. The GMPg thus provides an important contribution to sustainable golf course management. A number of standard layers are also included within the GEO layer. This also means that additional layers can be added, deleted or specially designed here as desired. If you are not (yet) thinking of GEO certification, this layer can be switched off. If in future you do decide to go for GEO, then switching it on is a piece of cake.

Within a GMPg there is also a layer equipped with information for the golfer. The holes, play lines and tee markers are inserted in this layer. In addition, by means of icons, the locations of toilets, first aid, golf ball washers, benches and shelters are made known. As a result, this part of the GMPg replaces the caddy book. An extra is that information can now be consulted at home via internet by green fee players as foreknowledge for a planned course visit or in the field via mobile phone. Naturally, all information not intended for the golfer in this application is protected. The Golfers layer is also built up of a number of layers. Layers can be added here as desired. It is also possible to turn off this part of the GMPg for as long as it’s not used.

Users groups A GMPg is a tool designed for green keepers, management, GEO certifiers and golfers. The functions and authorities differ by target group. Thus it is obvious that the head green keeper gets full authority to review and modify all data. The same applies for the course manager. He also has full access to the system, although the ability to enter data is blocked. Golfers of course, only have the opportunity to view the game data. Incidentally, you yourself determine who ultimately views or modifies what. Also on this point, the GMPg can be supplied tailor-made. And if in the future, there are additional people who also work with the GMPg, then extra “access is easy to organize. We standardly offer three GMPg licenses: Basic, Advanced and Optimal. Each license package involves another license structure and therefore a different accessibility. Obviously a license structure that is based on your specific needs is possible.

One system, unlimited possibilities Buiting Advies works continuously on extensions and applications for GMPg. The possibilities seem to be inexhaustible. Therefore if you have specific requirements or suggestions regarding the functionality of the GMPg, then please tell us about these. We will explore the possibilities in order to realise them for you or together with you.

Purpose A GMPg organizes and archives all managerial technical and organizational data and displays these on a digital map for various target groups. Contents of the product A GMPg is a management system built into a web application in which all available course information (golf, rough, nature areas, sprinkler details, paths, course furniture location, clubhouse, green keepers lodge, etc.) is included and in which a management plan is included for the short and medium term as desired. Display All information is clearly linked to an interactive digital map. The relevant information can be made visible and if so required, editable for each target group. Flexibility of the map A GMPg is a dynamic system. It can be adjusted, has a long zoom range, is easy to print out and offers a choice of different backgrounds (aerial photography, topographic). Data input Data are input and adaptations are ‘real time’. The users themselves decide which data are included upon purchase and what data will be gradually added. Data processing can be done via PC, field computer or even a mobile phone. All data is entered via the interactive map, resulting in it immediately being linked with a location or terrain type.

Usable as management archive The management history is visible in a GMPg because data is stored and can be accessed anytime. Thus you can see what the golf course looked like in 2007 or how much fertilizer was applied in 2010. Orientation information All data is GPS correlated and therefore easy to look up in the field. Information can also be added based on a GPS location, hence also via mobile phone (smart phone). Lay-out of the course The complete lay-out of the golf terrain is included on the basis of management (golf course, rough, nature, individual trees). The lay-out is detailed and clear. All golf and greenery elements are introduced in separate layers on the map and these can be switched on or off as desired. The structure of the map is built up as ‘tailor-made’ based on requirements. Course vision and management plan Under the direction of Buiting Advies, a vision for the course or the entire golf terrain can be developed. An interactive workshop provides the basis for this. The planned approach to the development of a vision results in a unique set of concrete measures for your course that can be directly integrated into the GMPg. The approach makes the system function as a full management plan.
