Welcome to the 5th Edition of INTrend!
Dear Valued Partners,
With so much information and industry chatter, it’s easy to miss what matters. That’s why we’ve curated a clear, comprehensive source for emerging trends in homebuilding, multifamily design, amenities, and sales centers.
For 2025, we’re unveiling a bold, fresh approach to INTrend, elevating how we share insights and inspiration. For the past 15 years, it has been an honor to serve as the industry’s trends authority, and we remain committed to shaping the future of design.
This year’s trends explore the intersection of home design and fashion—a fusion of influences that brings the drama and creativity of the runway into interior spaces. Expect to see bold statements, intricate detailing, and memory points that redefine the way we experience design.
Health and wellness remain central to how we curate model homes and commercial spaces, ensuring every project reflects the evolving lifestyles of today’s buyers and renters. We’ll also continue to analyze the desires of each generation, ensuring communities are designed to be both targeted and relatable for their audiences.
At Builders Design, great design is only part of the equation. We are also merchandisers, crafting spaces that sell a vision and an experience. This balance is what defines the BD Experience and what sets us apart from the competition.
In 2024, we celebrated another record-breaking year with 360 installations and nearly 10% growth in revenue. To build on this momentum, our Senior Management Team has recruited top talent across multiple disciplines—ensuring that BD continues to lead the industry with the best and brightest minds.
With these additions, my business partner Jon Nash and I have made an exciting decision: we are expanding into Luxury Multifamily! Our dedicated team in this new vertical brings a combined 50 years of experience, led by our Corporate VP of Design, Britney Gilley.
Speaking of milestones—2026 will mark BD’s 50th year in business! We are deeply humbled to reach this anniversary and recognize that our success is only possible because of the incredible partnerships we’ve built with builders, developers, and our dedicated team.
At BD, our corporate mission of Creativity - Culture - PassionExecution drives everything we do. Jon and I are beyond grateful for our team and our partners, and we look forward to another year of innovation, collaboration, and success!
Here’s to an exciting year ahead!

Smart door locks and electronic access systems cut maintenance requests by 10% and save multifamily properties $80,000 annually per building, according to a Parks Associates whitepaper.

NAHB predicts multifamily starts to drop 19.7% to 379,000 in 2024 due to tight credit. With 1M apartments under construction (a high since 1973), rent growth will slow, easing inflation. The market should stabilize by 2025, rising 2.3% to 388,000 units.

EV Owners: A Highly Sought-After Demographic
With EV adoption rising, properties will increasingly target EV owners, who tend to be younger, higher-income, and environmentally conscious. In urban areas, these residents are drawn to EVs for lower costs, better performance, and environmental benefits.
Multifamily owners are prioritizing EV charging in Class A and B properties, where EV owners are most concentrated.

Orange Charger offers smart 240-volt outlets for EVs, allowing owners to use portable Level 2 chargers with app activation. These outlets add up to 150 miles of range overnight, use lower power, and reduce installation costs by enabling thinner, cheaper wiring.

Tech-Integrated Living
in the Age of AI
“70% of global consumers believe AI will be used in most aspects of our lives 10 years from now.”

More Mainstream Adopter
Nearly 30% of U.S. internet households now own three or more smart devices, with buyers increasingly identifying as mainstream users. This shift demands revised product, marketing, and sales strategies to attract a broader, less tech-savvy audience.

The iDFace device uses facial identification with liveness detection to monitor building access. Its advanced algorithm can authenticate users, even with masks, and recognize up to 10,000 faces.
The 5 Segments of Tech Adoption
» Innovators: Tech enthusiasts, price-insensitive, eager to try new technologies.
» Early Adopters: Visionaries seeking transformative use cases, open to higher costs.
» Early Majority: Pragmatic buyers needing ROI and proof of value, less risk-tolerant.
» Late Majority: Conservative, price-sensitive, needing low-cost solutions.
» Laggards: Skeptics avoiding change, needing seamless, risk-free options.
Each group demands tailored marketing and pricing strategies to match their motivations and comfort levels with technology.
