MONTHLY NEWS, INFORMATION & ENTERTAINMENT FOR GLENFIELD

Charlie’s World Glenfield Gardeners’ Scout Jamboree: Association Annual Show An update ... Schedule is now available HI EVERYONE, I just wanted to give you all an update on how I am getting on with my fundraising so far. I have been working hard for the last 5 months to raise money and so far I am three-quarters of the way there! This has included: •

regular car washes at the Scout Hut. At one of them I was paid in Korean Won (equivalent to around £30!) and got to wash a Tesla!

running a tuck shop every night of the week for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts - they go crazy for Mento’s and Flumps!

arranging a curry night at Chef and Spice alongside a member of the Groby scouts who is also going on the Jamboree. Around 150 people attended - friends, family and even people from my parents’ work came to help raise money. The evening was a great success and with a raffle of prizes which had all been generously donated we raised £1,690 in total! Everyone down at the scouts loves a good curry night so they were happy to help. this Gazette may even have been delivered by me as I deliver monthly in my local area

I also applied for a grant from the council and generously they donated £500 which I am very thankful of. Some people have also given donations for nothing and just given money or prizes to help me on the way to South Korea. Overall I am having fun and enjoying raising the money to get me to South Korea and just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped so far! Be sure to join us at our Craft Fair and Table Top sale at the Scout Hut 2pm-5pm on the 11th June.

Park and Stride trial gets more Leicestershire schoolchildren walking to school

A NEW PROGRAMME to get children walking safely to school has been piloted in parts of the county. In partnership with Leicestershire County Council, several schools have debuted ‘park and stride’ schemes. ‘Park and stride’ schemes involve the use of nearby car parks for children to then walk the rest of the way- normally five to ten minutes- to school. This is either accompanied by their parents, carers, or guardians.

Buy a pair of anti-reflection single vision lenses and save £75 OFF a pair of polarised single vision lenses.

The schemes aim to reduce traffic congestion, as well as helping children to be more active while benefiting the environment. The launch of the scheme at All Saints Church of England Primary School in Sapcote was a great success, with over 100 children – equivalent to more than one third of the school – taking part.

ODD THINGS YOUR

MOTHER Used To Say My dear departed mother used to have some odd sayings I‘m sure she made some of them up. For example, if the pantry was looking a bit bare, she‘d often say “There‘s not a steric of food in this house!“ Google says a steric is an arrangement of atoms. Was my mother a scientist on the quiet? Was she saying there wasn’t an ATOM of food in the pantry? We’ll probably never know...

The Rise of the New Normal Reich By C J Hopkins C. J. HOPKINS presents an unofficial history of the roll-out of the “New Normal” during the 2020-2021 Covid-19 pandemic, and an analysis of this new, pathologizedtotalitarian ideology that has radically transformed societies around the world. From the proclamation of the “New Normal” and the initial propaganda blitzkrieg in March of 2020, and on through the global lockdowns, the suspension of constitutional rights, the mask mandates, the social distancing, the censorship, the segregation and persecution of “the Unvaccinated,” and, finally, the collapse of the official Covid narrative at the end of 2021, the essays in this volume comprise an “as-it-happened” record of how insane and totalitarian things got, and puts the madness into context. No other prophet has described the strategies or predicted the perils of the emerging totalitarianism with such persistence and eloquence.” (Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.) Featuring popular essays like The Covidian Cult, The “Unvaccinated” Question, The Criminalization of Dissent, Manufacturing New Normal “Reality,” and a new introductory essay exploring the question of how nominally democratic societies around the world could be so suddenly and easily transformed into pathologized-totalitarian police states, the essays in this collection present “[a] searing (and therefore satisfying) chronicle of life in, and against, the locked-down, maskedup, triple-vaxxed madhouse of New Normal insanity.” (Max Blumenthal) “[Hopkins] was one of the only people in English willing to do [that], and he did it with his trademark wit and bravado. He’ll be remembered as a signature chronicler of the ‘New Normal.’” (Matt Taibbi)

The Queen at the Bomber Command Memorial unveiling, 2012

S WE CELEBRATE Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service, I would like to thank Her Royal Highness for her continuous support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, being the charity’s Patron since 1952.

One memorable event for the Fund was in June 2012, when Her Majesty attended the unveiling of the Fund‘s Bomber Command Memorial in Green Park, London, the ten year anniversary of which is on June 26. The memorial pays tribute to the 55,573 airmen who lost their lives serving in Bomber Command during the Second World War and the unveiling was attended by thousands of veterans and relatives. Her Majesty The Queen has always been a tireless supporter of the Fund‘s work, providing welfare services for the whole RAF Family – from serving personnel and veterans to their partners and children. It is a privilege to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with cherished memories of Her Majesty‘s commitment not only to the RAF but to all the Armed Forces. Yours Sincerely,

Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot, Chief Executive, RAF Benevolent Fund

BHF comment on Tesco commitment about multi-buys

FOLLOWING CONFIRMATION in May that Tesco will continue with plans to remove volumeled promotions on HFSS products from October 2022, Dr Charmaine Griffiths, chief executive at the British Heart Foundation said: “While the Government U-turned last week on vital plans to address obesity, it is absolutely fantastic to see Tesco forging ahead with changes that will make healthy options easier for families. “There is no silver bullet for reducing our high obesity rates – instead it requires effort across Government and business and that is why is so important to see Tesco moved forward as planned. “This vital commitment by the largest supermarket retailer in the country should serve as a wakeup call - the Government must follow suit. Our heart health, NHS and economy all demand it.” I MADE my girlfriend’s dreams come true by marrying her in a castle, although you wouldn’t have thought it from the look on her face as we were bouncing around.

I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Glenfield Primary School News Year 4 Thinktank Visit WHEN WE WENT TO THE THINKTANK, we saw an electrifying science show in the theatre. My favourite part of the show was that we got to join in with the experiments. I liked the Van De Graaff machine because we saw how the static electricity was travelling. I liked ‘Level 0’ which was the power-up station because you could go inside the huge train and see what it was like back when they were powered by steam and coal. In the science garden, there were wheelchairs on a runner and we got to see what is was like to be in a wheelchair and push each other around. I rate the trip 5 stars because you got to experience lots of things that you might not normally be able to. (Evi, Innovators).

Year 4 Hindu Temple Visit ON WEDNESDAY 18TH MAY, the children in Year 4 went to visit a Hindu temple called the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Leicester. The purpose of the visit was to support what the children have been learning in Religious Education. The children (and adults) were amazed at how beautiful the temple was! Once inside, our shoes had to be removed and the children did a fantastic job listening carefully to the temple guide. Throughout the visit, Year 4 learnt about the Hindu gods including Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Devi, Krishna, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The children also asked many inquisitive questions and were keen to learn more about the religion. “It was really nice inside and it was interesting when they were talking about the different gods,” said Lilia

Reading Ambassadors trip to Waterstones THE READING AMBASSADORS took a trip to Waterstones book shop. They had a very important job given to them. They had a sum of money to spend on a range of new books for our school library. The children had great fun thinking about the different year groups and the types of books they might like to read as well as well as thinking about the books they would like to see in the library. They behaved brilliantly and were able to choose some fantastic books that will be making an appearance in the library very soon!

Joyrider: How gratitude can help you get the life you really want By Angela Scanlon

‘Gratitude is your soul’s superfood, but cheaper than goji berries, and twice as good for you. ‘I like to think of it as mindfulness for cynics or the “gateway drug” to spirituality. It’s a very tangible thing you can do everyday that will shift your focus to what you have rather than pining and obsessing over what you don’t have. Away from a state of lack into limitless abundance...’ So what happens when we stop taking things for granted and start putting some grá* into our gratitude? When we consciously turn our heads and hearts to what we have and focus on the good? In Joy Rider, television presenter and host of the podcast Thanks A Million, Angela Scanlon, presents her guide to tapping into your own natural super resource - joy. This book is an invitation to embrace the kind of gratitude that cuts through the nonsense of life to its truth, connecting us with the present and grounding us in self. When there is so much to feel anxious about, Angela shares with readers how focusing our attention on the small, incremental positives in life can completely change it for the better. * It means love in Irish

‘Soul Journey’ is a new recital project for string quartet and poetry with a first performance in Markfield Methodist Church, Friday 1st July 2022, 7.30pm.

Flu vaccine Solar Together scheme launches in Leicestershire could cut

COVID risk ACCORDING to an article by Ewen Callaway in NATURE, influenza vaccines have a surprising health benefit: they might also prevent COVID-19, particularly in its most severe forms.

The project was inspired by the poetry of contemplatives and mystics like Mary Oliver and Rumi as well as sublime and uplifting music from composers old and new from Hildegarde von Bingen to Morten Lauridsen. ‘Soul Journey’ invites the listener and performers alike on an inner journey starting from where we find ourselves now. The words and music will help us explore our human experience in our search for wholeness, embracing many emotions on the way; doubt, sorrow, regret, love, joy and laughter. The music takes us into the rich sound world of the medieval to the present day. Music from India, Eastern Europe, North American Gospel, traditional Celtic and serene works from some of today’s contemplative and atmospheric composers. The poetry of Persian mystics Rumi and Hafiz together with more modern contemplatives Mary Oliver and Chelan Harkin invite us to let go, embrace our humanity and to feel at peace with our unique place in the world.

PEOPLE COULD save on energy bills and help cut carbon emissions by investing in solar panels through a new group-buying scheme. Solar Together Leicestershire helps people looking to make an investment in solar panels for their house and battery storage systems for a reduced rate. Residents can register their interest for free and find more information on the Solar Together website.(https://solartogether. co.uk/leicestershire/landing) People who register will be entered into an auction, where solar panel suppliers compete by offering the lowest rate for installation. The more people who register, the lower the price can be. Solar Together, run by group buying firm iChoosr, then provides those signed up with a free, no obligation offer from the successful energy supplier. A personal recommendation will be emailed out with information on the winning solar panel installer, the proposed system, costs, and savings ready for residents to make their choice. Registration closes on Tuesday 14 June with the selection revealed from Monday 4 July onwards. Blaby District Council is leading on the campaign in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, Harborough District Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council, Melton Borough Council, North West Leicestershire District Council and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.

The article states that a study of more than 30,000 health-care workers in Qatar found that those who got a flu jab were nearly 90% less likely to develop severe COVID-19 over the next few months, compared with those who hadn’t been recently vaccinated against flu. The study, which was conducted in late 2020, before the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines, is in line with previous work suggesting that ramping up the immune system using influenza vaccines and other jabs could help the body to fend off the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The article goes on to say that it’s not fully clear why flu vaccines — which are composed of killed influenza viruses — would also protect against COVID-19. The One Million Step Challenge - to raise funds for Diabetes UK WE ARE INVITING people in the Midlands to raise vital funds for Diabetes UK this summer and support our push to help as many people as possible know their risk of type 2 diabetes.

The One Million Step Challenge runs from 1st July to 30th September and is ideal for anyone looking for a way to get more active. You take one million steps over the course of three months – around 10,000 steps per day – and get sponsored for every stride. There’s also the half a million-step challenge, ideal for anyone who may find taking 10,000 steps a day difficult, or the longer 1.7 million-step version for those who really want a challenge. We’re making this call to kick off Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week, an NHS England initiative supported by Diabetes UK. Type 2 diabetes is serious and there are almost 2.4 million people in England at a high risk of developing the condition. However, research has consistently shown that for some people, combined lifestyle interventions – including diet, physical activity, and sustained weight loss – can be effective in reducing their risk by about 50%. That’s why we’re encouraging people to understand their risk by completing our free Know Your Risk tool. It only takes a few minutes, and anyone at moderate or high risk can directly sign up to their local Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme. Life Time

by Russell Foster IN THE TWENTY-FIRST century, we increasingly push our daily routines into the night, carrying out work, exercise and our social lives long after dark. But we have forgotten that our bodies are governed by a 24-hour biological clock which guides us towards the best time to sleep, eat and think. New science has proven that living out of sync with this clock is not only disrupting our sleep, but leaving us more vulnerable to infection, cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and mental illness. In Life Time, Professor Russell Foster shares his life’s work, taking us on a fascinating and surprising journey through the science of our body clocks. Using his own studies, as well as insights from an international community of sleep scientists and biologists studying circadian rhythms, he illustrates the surprising effects the time of day can have on our health: • how a walk outside at dawn can ensure a better night’s sleep • how eating after sundown can affect our weight • the extraordinary effects the time we take our medication can have on our risk of life-threatening conditions, such as strokes In the modern world, we have neglected an essential part of our biology. But with knowledge of this astonishing science, we can get back into the rhythm, and live healthier, sharper lives.

I once took to the stage as Hamlet, which really annoyed the rest of the cast of Mamma Mia.

Railway Stories BY TED COOK

MY FIRST SIGNAL BOX at the age of 17 was at Amberley on the Mid Sussex Line. It was a wonderful job and I really loved the three years I had there. The work was non stop as besides the signal box we had lots of other jobs as in the same room we had the Booking Office and the Sub Post Office! So within five minutes you could signal a train sell a return ticket to Littlehampton and sell a book of stamps! Great Fun only thing was I only got paid one wage which was for the Signalling the other work was for the love of it! The best thing about Amberley was we were first with so many things. Now when you worked at the Post Office you signed the Official Secrets Act so I do not think I should be telling you this although I have told it in my shows for years and if ever anything comes back I shall deny it ever happened! Nowadays you can get your OAP straight via the bank. Go to the hole in the wall! In those days it was still pension book at the Post Office. Thursdays were pension day but this was a Wednesday evening when one of our elderly villagers came to the station wanting his pension early to get a drink in the local pub. Now being a kind fellow I gave it to him as the transaction was recorded the next day anyway. Of course this opened the flood gates so we were the first to give out pensions as and when! Without having to wait until nine o’clock when the PO opened! We did the same with stamps as at the time it was either when the post office was open or if you could find one of those stamp machines around at the time. So we were first with both these as of course now you can buy stamps anywhere anytime! Unfortunately the PO closed while I was there and the only place now is the local shop in the village when it is open. More of Ted’s stories in his books - email: edward8fw@btinternet.com

Frustration, Desperation, Imagination, Improvisation A GARDENING friend recently asked me what my most valued garden implement was and I said it was a pull hoe or at least that is what I know it as – it probably has a proper name but I don’t know it. This I find so much better than one you push as so often meeting resistance, pushing a hoe, when it breaks through you go too far and damage a plant. In the few weeks since then, I have found something new, very useful. It is a container with a handle I find helpful for holding compost when I am potting-on. Of far more value than either of these is a retractable/extendable toasting fork. With summer upon us you no doubt enjoy a BBQ as I do, but this ancient implement has found a new lease of life and is proving incredibly useful.

The bane of the life of anybody with a garden pond is blanketweed and this three-pronged device is superb at removing this. Stick it into the slimy mess and twist it round and all the filaments wrap around the end and are easily removed. No more bending over at risk of falling in; no more handfuls of the horrible stuff. And the carry pot I am using? The dust container off a dead Dyson.

Opticians to support Menphys EDMONDS & SLATTER Opticians has a longstanding tradition of offering charitable support to local causes. This week they were very pleased to announce that their new partnership would be with Menphys.

Menphys is a Leicestershire based charity that has been supporting local families for over 50 years providing a range of services for children and young adults up to the age of 25 who have additional needs and disabilities. The charity helps give them equal opportunities and allow them to live ordinary lives. While there were a number of charities under discussion for Charity of the Year, the local independent opticians decided to offer support to Menphys as it would allows them to continue helping those who are visually impaired and support children that would benefit from the everyday eyecare that most people take for granted but may have had difficulty accessing it due to several factors. Fundraising will include raffles, open evenings, sponsored events, Christmas activities and a charity golf day to name but a few. “As independent opticians it’s really important for us to engage with the community and all of the team at Edmonds & Slatter have volunteered their free time for our charity events” said Tim Cole, Director at Edmonds & Slatter. The name Menphys is a combination of the two words Mental and Physical, pointing to the fact that the charity assists children with a wide range of needs. “Many of these needs go hand in hand with visual impairments so we are very proud to be able to offer our support and take on the mantle of “Official Opticians” to Menphys” commented Amy Coleburne, Charity co-ordinator at Edmonds & Slatter. “We can’t wait to get started!”

Spring Garden Onions are bad for dogs Competition Winner Chosen WORRIED your pet may have eaten something they shouldn’t?

You may be surprised to learn just how much onion we humans consume on a daily basis. Onion and onion powder are added into a vast number of recipes from soups to sauces, and this versatile vegetable is known for bringing an unforgettable flavour to dishes. With onions included as an ingredient in so many things, it’s caused many a pet parent to pause and ask the question “can dogs eat onions or foods that contain them?” Can dogs eat onions? No, dogs shouldn’t eat onions. These vegetables contain a compound called N-propyl disulphide which is highly toxic for dogs. This compound can cause the breakdown and eventual destruction of red blood cells and lead to anaemia. In extreme cases, onion poisoning can be fatal for dogs. How bad are onions for dogs?

The winner of the Spring Garden Competition best front garden was in Cedar Close, Glenfield.

Did you know ... that recent back issues* of the Glenfield Gazette are available to read online at www.glenfieldgazette.com *from November 2020 to present.

Don’t complain

“To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.” Eckhart Tolle

The toxic effect of onions depends on how much your dog eats and the size of your dog. According to The American Kennel Club, 100g of onion per 20kg of a dog’s weight can lead to toxic effects. This means that only a relatively small amount of onion can be deadly to a small dog. To be on the safe side, we recommend not giving any onion at all to any dog. All parts of the onion are bad for dogs, including the flesh and leaves, as well as the juices and powders that are created from this vegetable. So, if you grow onions in your garden, it’s a good idea to keep them fenced off away from opportunistic dogs. Can dogs eat cooked onions? No, dogs can’t eat cooked onions. Cooking and frying them doesn’t have an impact on how poisonous they are. Symptoms of onion toxicity If your dog’s eaten onions, they could show signs of illness within a day, but sometimes it takes several days for the

signs of anaemia to become apparent. The following symptoms can develop: • Decreased appetite • Pale gums • Lethargy • Weakness • Collapse • Red tinge to urine • Vomiting and/or diarrhoea • Elevated heart rate •

Panting

If you notice your dog displaying any of the symptoms listed above, take them to the vet straight away for diagnosis and treatment. A speedy response can make the world of difference. How are dogs treated for onion toxicity? The treatment for onion toxicity depends on how much onion your dog has eaten and when they had it. If you discover that your dog has eaten onion and you manage to get them to the vet soon enough, the vet may be able to induce vomiting to get the onion out of your dog’s system before it can be digested. However, this only works as a preventative measure if you can take action quickly enough. If your dog develops symptoms of onion toxicity, they will need supportive treatment. In extreme cases where the dog is in a critical condition, a blood transfusion may be necessary. If your dog’s red blood cells have been severely affected, your vet will also provide ongoing care to help return them to their normal happy and healthy selves. Preventing onion toxicity Always keep onions out of reach of your dog as these vegetables can be extremely dangerous if ingested. Also, be sure to check the ingredients before offering any human foods to your dog as a lot of readymade soups and sauces contain onions. Better yet, avoid human foods entirely and only feed your dog foods and treats specially created for dogs. ADVICE FROM PURINA

I’ve been trying for some time to develop a life style that doesn’t require my presence.

The Glenfield Gardeners’ Association Annual Show

by Caroline Frost THE DEFINITIVE history of Carry On, Britain’s largest film franchise, including exclusive interviews with stars including Bernard Cribbins, Angela Douglas and Kenneth Cope.

on Saturday 20th August at St. Peter’s Church Hall, Glenfield The show is open to EVERYONE

For the first time, loved ones of some of the films’ biggest names on and off screen share their personal memories from this unique filmmaking era – from the gentle capers of the 1950s, through the glorious golden age of the 1960s, to the creative challenges in the years that followed. This book takes you on a happy walk down memory lane to enjoy Sid James’s conspiratorial chuckle, Kenneth Williams’ elongated vowels, Charles Hawtrey’s bespectacled bashfulness and Barbara Windsor’s naughty wiggle, as writer Caroline Frost explores the different ingredients behind their huge appeal. It all seemed effortless, but Frost sheds new light on just how much talent and hard work went into creating the laughs - and she examines the real-life struggles of the stars who found solace in their tight companionship at Pinewood Studios. She asks, was Carry On really as sexist, racist and bigoted as critics claim? Three of the female stars explain why they never felt remotely exploited. Plus Frost takes a fresh look at some of the series’ biggest titles and argues that, in reality, they were far more progressive than their detractors would have you believe.

Compost Corner

CUT-PRICE COMPOST BINS LEICESTERSHIRE County Council is encouraging residents to help their gardens thrive and tackle climate change locally.

To mark International Compost Awareness Week the authority is offering cut-price compost bins for as little as £12, to contribute towards the council’s aim of becoming a net zero county by 2045. Many people will choose to take advantage of the warmer weather and prepare their garden for the summer months ahead – and composting items like your fruit and vegetable peelings and grass cuttings is a great, natural way to dispose of your organic waste. Organic waste sent to landfill cannot decompose properly because it does not have any access to air, so methane is generated – a greenhouse gas which contributes to climate change. Composted organic waste will take around a year to decompose and the new compost – a brown soil-like substance with a crumbly texture – can then be dug back into the garden to provide nutrientrich food for your plants. Working in partnership with Garden Organic, the council is on the lookout for new master composters to help reduce the amount of organic waste going to landfill. More than 100 volunteers have helped spread the word across the county since the scheme began in 2008. People who sign up will receive free training and can use their own skills and enthusiasm to raise awareness of the benefits of home composting and gardening – as well as bring together their local community. The scheme is open to residents of Leicestershire (excluding Leicester City) and volunteers must be over 18. GO TO: https://getcomposting.com/en-gb/special-offers/

St Peter’s Church News

T

his month we rightfully – and hopefully joyfully – celebrate the remarkable achievement of our Queen in reaching her Platinum Jubilee. Seventy years of service to the nation, through unprecedented and unpredictable times of change. As we’ve seen her increasing frailty this past year – I write on the day she was unable to be in Parliament for the State Opening for the first time in over half a century – it has perhaps reminded us of what a prize we have had in her diligent and unceasing dedication to her role, to the nation and the Commonwealth. Even in the shadow of the loss this past year of her beloved husband, her uncomplaining and compassionate leadership has been the gracious presence which this country has always been able to rely on. As we celebrate with the extended Bank Holiday weekend – with all the many community events we have the opportunity to enjoy – let me remind you of Queen Elizabeth’s words in her very first Christmas broadcast as monarch in 1952, looking forward to her coronation in 1953: I want to ask you all, whatever your religion may be, to pray for me on that day - to pray that God may give me wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises I shall be making, and that I may faithfully serve Him and you, all the days of my life. As we thank God that she has shown that wisdom and strength in so many circumstances, let us continue to pray for her as she continues to serve, drawing inspiration from her faithfulness and her faith. As she said in the year of her Golden Jubilee:

HALL SCHOOL NEWS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES at The Hall have been pounding the pavements of Glenfield this month, as part of the Beat the Street initiative. The aim of the project is to get children active and this has certainly been the case with many of the children. One child arrived at school very red faced after tapping his Beat the Street card on 5 different boxes before the start of the school day! Each time the cards are tapped on two different boxes points are collected for the school. Thank you to everyone who has taken part! The 6th of May saw the return of The Hall School’s maypole celebration. The children in Year 1 have been working really hard to learn the barber’s pole, spider’s web and the plait. The children presented their dances to their parents and did a fantastic job, everyone was very proud of their achievements. The parents and teachers also had a go at “the plait” but were not as good as the children. Everyone at The Hall was pleased to see the return of this tradition.

I know just how much I rely on my own faith to guide me through the good times and the bad. Each day is a new beginning, I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God. Like others of you who draw inspiration from your own faith, I draw strength from the message of hope in the Christian gospel.

I am delighted to finally introduce, A Different Human Design - More than a label www.adifferenthumandesign.co.uk

THIS IS A platform that champions diversity and individuality, offering free, positive information about the mind and body for selfdiscovery and self-empowerment. A Different Human Design represents all those who are “different” to the mainstream. Those who recognise this but are unwilling to be restricted or defined by labels and boxes. The bright, engaging visuals are created to encourage new understanding, promote discussion and offer a different - a more positive perspective. They can be used by individuals, families and professionals alike. The platform also provides a community for outside-of-the-box thinkers with a growing social media presence and an inspirational spotlight coming very soon. It is of most importance to me that the space remains FREE for all to use. In order for this purposeful network to continue its growth, I’ve launched a number of ways to create an income. Sponsorship and CSR opportunities are available for businesses who align with this outlook and can help, please contact me to discuss. A line of merchandise is now available including a notebook, t-shirt and an iron on label (upcycle clothing or add to existing style.) Display your unity with this movement, helping create an onthe-ground presence of acceptance for diversity. I also have a patreons profile for people to directly pledge toward the running of the platform. Choose from a £1, £5 or £25 monthly donation. www.patreon.com/adifferenthumandesign Those who access the resources will find helpful analogies that put daily and life issues into context. As well as a range of tips, tools and cards designed to record your own personal findings, creating an approach suited to your unique self. Blending science and experience, A Different Human Design offers something alternative to what currently exists and stands apart from others by providing services for free.

Your happy, funny, innocent son commits a terrible crime: murdering a complete stranger. You don’t know who. You don’t know why. You only know your teenage boy is in custody and his future lost. That night you fall asleep in despair. Until you wake . . . . . . and it is yesterday. Every morning you wake up a day earlier, another day before the murder. Another chance to stop it. Somewhere in the past lie the answers, and you don’t have a choice but to find them . . .

10. March 14th (relating to the first three digits of Pi - 3.14)

20 LONGEST

UK RIVERS

This is your Word Searc WordSearch

“What’s your funeral song?” asks LOROS Hospice IT’S THE BIGGEST taboo of all but one we all face sooner or later. Death, dying and bereavement are still difficult subjects for many people to talk about, despite award-winning TV series, best-selling books and celebrity-fronted podcasts on the topic. “It can go against people’s instincts to talk about death as it feels like it might make it more likely to happen. It’s a sensitive subject but a really important one to discuss openly”, says Jo Kavanagh, Director of Care Services at LOROS Hospice. LOROS recently invited people to share their thoughts on the following questions. • How do you want to be remembered? • Would you be buried or cremated? • What would your funeral be like? • What’s your funeral song? To get the conversation started the Hospice has asked its staff and supporters to get involved and is sharing their responses across social media. From ashes scattered across a sun-drenched beach in Greece to being buried with teddies and their phone, everyone has a unique take on the questions, which is exactly the reason for making your choices known. Jo Kavanagh, Director of Care Services at LOROS Hospice, says: “We find it can be really helpful for families to know what their loved one’s wishes are. It supports them to know that they are enacting what their loved ones wanted, which can provide them with a great deal of comfort at an extremely sad and difficult time.” To find out more visit loros.co.uk/dyingmatters
