Outdoor Pursuits to take Zip Lining trip to Mammoth Cave

f you’re looking for a quick and exciting getaway from campus, look no further than Outdoor Pursuit’s zip lining trip on November 5th! We will take the day to travel to Mammoth Cave National Park in southern Kentucky where we’ll be zipping in the morning and hiking in the afternoon.

Fit Tip

Don’t have time to make it into the Fitness Center between class? Here is a quick workout that you can do anywhere to help you stay in shape. Single-Leg Dead lift with Kick-Back Time: 4 minutes Targets: triceps, back, legs Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding 5-pound dumbbells with elbows bent so your hands are close to your rib cage. Lift your right foot behind you and bend forward slowly from the hips and straighten your arms backward, bringing them next to your hips. Return foot to the ground with elbows bent. Hold for ten seconds. Repeat Five times, then switch to your other leg.

ith Halloween right around the corner, outdoor pursuits is gearing up for its annual SpookyDash climbing event. On Thursday, October 27th, join us at the climbing wall from 6-9pm in your best Halloween costume. Prizes will be given for the best costumes! This enjoyable night of festivities is pot-luck style, so bring your favorite goodies to share.

The zip line course is one of the best and most beautiful in this area, consisting of 5 zip lines and 2 sky bridges. One hundred percent of past Outdoor Pursuit participants agreed that trips were a great way to meet fellow Belmont students. Zipping through the trees is not only a great way to get an adrenaline rush, but also a fantastic opportunity to experience the fall colors of the Green River Valley of South central Kentucky.

After zip lining, we will take a short hike through sections of Mammoth Cave National Park. Even though this park is primarily known for having the biggest cave in the nation, the park also features some beautiful trails and scenic views.

Strides for cancer

aking Strides Against Breast Cancer sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research in both the Nashville community and nationwide . The walk begins with a warm up and ceremony honoring breast cancer survivors and those who are suffering from breast cancer at 8 pm. The 5 mile walk begins at LP Field at 9:00 am and is routed throughout scenic downtown Nashville. Join Team Belmont on October 15, 2011 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk benefitting the American Cancer Society. Team Belmont is sponsored by the Department of Fitness and Recreation and Health Services, and participates in this walk annually. No registration fee is required, but donations to are appreciated. Participants will receive 1 community service credit. To join Team Belmont, go to www.cancer. org/stridesonline and sign up under Team Belmont!

Flag Football Fun

T

he flag-football Jamboree, held October 1-2nd, was a huge success with 29 teams and roughly 300 participants. Teams played games over the course of two days and earned Bruin Cup points for sportsmanship, fan participation, and tailgating. Throughout the weekend 96% of participants said they were able to engage in positive social interactions, with 88% developing new relationships. To experience this excitement, get your team together and register for the Flag-football Blow Out weekend, October 29-30th!
