Day 1-2

Luang Prabang – Muang Ngoi – Ban Kioukhan

Depart Luang Prabang and drive north through the beautiful mountain scenery to Nong Khiew. Continue travelling by local boat to Muang Ngoi, where you will stay overnight in a local guesthouse. In the evening, you will be able to learn more about daily life in this remote part of Laos. You will see that little has changed over the years and the people still retain their traditional culture. Enjoy interacting with the friendly villagers and observe their day to day life. This peaceful location is the perfect start to your trekking experience. Transfer by local boat up stream on the Nam Ou River to Ban Hadsapheui, which is populated by the Khamu ethnic group. You will then begin trekking uphill to Ban Kioukhan for about four hours through beautiful forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic point. Later in the day you will arrive in Ban Kioukhan. Enjoy dinner and overnight in a traditional village homestay.

Day 3-4

Ban Kioukhan – Ban Houay Sene – Luang Prabang

Bangkok Extension Enjoy a stay in the ‘City of Angels’. Visit the city’s main sights on a guided tour with stops at the famous Jim Thompson’s House and Textile Museum, the Grand Palace and a longtail boat cruise on the picturesque Chao Phraya River and the ‘klongs’ for a taste of old Bangkok.

On Day 3, begin trekking to Ban Nam Tap which is populated by the Hmong ethnic group. Later you will arrive in Ban Sengsavang, which is a Khmu ethnic minority village. Enjoy learning about the difference between ethnic minorities in this area and gain a greater understanding of their cultures, lifestyles and traditions. On Day 4 you will walk for about six hours, taking in great mountain views as you pass through remote villages that punctuate this beautiful region. After lunch, continue trekking until you reach Ban Houy Sene, where you will enjoy a dinner of local specialities and will overnight in the home of a local family. The next morning, explore the village before setting of for the 2 hour trek to Muang Ngoi. Along the way, you will stop to explore Tham Kang Cave which was used as a shelter during the Vietnam war. At around midday you will arrive in Muang Ngoi. Then, take a boat back to Nong Khiew before travelling back to Luang Prabang by vehicle.

SUMMARY Beginning in delightful Luang Prabang, this trekking experience will take you to the mountainous north of the country. Travel by boat, vehicle and on foot through ethnic minority villages. Learn about the ethnic groups that make this beautiful region their home.
