It is delivered as a blended learning, work-related foundation degree. You will then receive tutoring in your degree group from industry specialists in years two and three. Second-year students get the chance to travel to New York or a European capital, with a line-up of visits to design, film and multi-media agencies. Our live briefs come from a range of companies and we source work experience with our wide network of industry contacts.

Textiles and Surface Design Textiles are everywhere; they are the very fabric of our everyday environment. Providing us with identity, comfort and shelter, textiles are the material that we have our closest relationships with, literally clothing our bodies from head to toe, or surrounding our homes with stimulating colour and tactility. Our course explores three main textile design practices – print, knit and surface design. You’ll learn to work with many different types of material and techniques, from traditional fabrics to contemporary technologies in order to create innovative designs. From interior surfaces to luxury fashion accessories, you’ll gain an understanding of the professional context and practice of textile design.

Final year BA (Hons) Textiles and Surface Design student, ZEBA SAFDAR has won the prestigious Eastpak Artist Studio Wildcard Competition. The annual competition is organised with Designers Against Aids and the creative website and network, Arts Thread, and attracts entries from around the world. The competition brief involved coming up with an original design for transforming a blank Eastpak Padded Pak’r® backpack into a unique work of art. Zeba used PVC with hand-knitted and stitched details and features including knitted overlay, tassels and braided shoulder straps for her design. Zeba’s design will go on sale, alongside work by 11 other artists, as part of a fundraising drive for World AIDS Day.

There are so many different materials and techniques to explore – it’s a bit like a sweet shop!

fashion design This dynamic, industry-led degree has a unique emphasis on ethics and sustainability in fashion. You will learn essential skills for technical construction, design and professional portfolio skills; flat pattern cutting; modelling on the stand and construction and 3D realisation of fashion products. Through a combination of studio seminars, lectures, workshops, industry visits and specialist visiting lecturers, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the fashion industry and the role of the fashion designer, and explore ideas for developing more sustainable contexts for fashion.

Led by a team of experienced academic-practitioners, who are also performers, makers and writers, this programme has a significant practical element. Practical modules culminate in performances in High Wycombe’s Swan Theatre and in London, offering you professional performance as part of the degree. As a performer-maker, you will produce, create and perform in a series of shows, films, short-scenes and experimental devised performances before – in your third year – setting up your own theatre company. Alongside practical, entrepreneurial and performance training, you will interrogate theories that you apply in your practice.

Bucks graduate MODUPE SALU has won two major awards at this year’s prestigious National Student Drama Festival (NSDF). Modupe performed her solo work I Can’t Breathe, which was originally devised as part of her dissertation research project. It was the only solo performance at this year’s Festival and was awarded the Buzz Goodbody Student Director Award and the Spotlight Most Promising Actress Award.

There isn’t a generic outcome for our students because we champion the individual while teaching them to work as part of a team.

performing arts This course is ideal for people already working in the performance arts sector who need to upscale or consolidate their knowledge, including teachers at GCSE and A-level performing arts level, and FE tutors. The course provides a unique opportunity to explore creatively how the performing arts can be developed as a discipline and applied to the world at large – as a way of thinking and conceptualising business, as an educational tool, and as pure artistic endeavour. You will study innovative, interpretive research methodologies and traditional qualitative methods in order to capture, record and transform narratives, adapt concepts, turn ideas into performance, and translate performance into ideas.
