PAY LA V

BUBBLE SHAKE MAGAZINE MUSICIAN INTERVIEW I go by Pay La V because it represents money and life. I believe you always need a balance of the two. The V is my first initial. I am born and raised in Houston, Texas.

BSM: What inspired you to become a musician? V: The opportunity to express myself through music. BSM: What tracks have you written and have collaborated with another artists? V: I write all my own tracks, and I work with a variety of producers. I have collaborated with Lil Flip on a song called “Out the Roof” produced by Drewski, a Houston producer. I have also worked with Crime Mobb on a song called “You Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin’.”

BSM: What image are you trying to portray with your music?

V: A true MC that talks about more than just the obvious. BSM: What was your favorite video coming up or like now? V: Coming up my favorite video was “If I Ruled the World.” by Nas and Lauren Hill. BSM: Do you have a MySpace music page? If so what is it? V: Myspace.com/paylav BSM: At what particular time in your life did you want to become a hip hop artist? V: I have been interested in doing hip hop since I was ten. BSM: Growing up was there one particular artist that inspired you to become an artist? V: Growing up I was definitely inspired by Scarface, Nas, and Rakim. BSM: How did you feel after you wrote/ recorded your first track? V: I knew I had something to offer the hip hop industry. BSM: Are there any eye candy models that you would like to do a video with? V: Rosa Acotsa.

BSM: Do you think major rap labels force artist to change their image to conform to “mainstream” or “commercial music”? V: I think that they do, because at the end of the day it is still a business. BSM: What is your opinion on that? V: Personally, I feel making artists become to “commercial” can hurt your fan base. But there has to be a balance. BSM: If you had the chance to sign with any label major or independent- which label would you sign with? And why? V: Given the opportunity, I would sign with Interscope because they have produced many multi-platinum artists. And of course, it would mean an opportunity to work with Dr. Dre. BSM: Do you think underground is better than main stream music? V: I think underground is more from the heart because most underground artist are hungry. Not to take anything away from main stream artist. Underground and main stream music both have a much needed place in hip hop. BSM: With all the online access to free mix tapes- do you think that helps or hurts hip hop artists? V: It helps artist be heard, but it also hurts sales. BSM: What are your music goals for 2010? V: My goals for 2010 are to drop my new album” Balance” and my mix tape “V for Vendetta.” BSM: Where do you see yourself in the next five years? V: In the next five years I see myself as a multiplatinum artist along with various business ventures.

A.B.G means All Beloved Guidance The Society Funds was developed by Wayne Bent, CEO of Bubble Shake Magazine and Music Pusher Entertainment. We formed this organization to collect funds to help people with HIV and Breast Cancer. We will be offering public education on these issues and helping make a difference in people’s lives. We also distribute free condoms throughout the community of Charlotte, North Carolina and world wide.

BREAST CANCER Breast cancer is a cancer that starts in the tissues of the breast. There are two main types of breast cancer: • Ductal carcinoma starts in the tubes (ducts) that move milk from the breast to the nipple. Most breast cancers are of this type. • Lobular carcinoma starts in parts of the breast, called lobules, that produce milk. In rare cases, breast cancer can start in other areas of the breast. Many breast cancers are sensitive to the hormone estrogen. This means that estrogen causes the breast cancer tumor to grow. Such cancer is called estrogen receptor positive cancer or ER positive cancer. Some women have what's called HER2-positive breast cancer. HER2 refers to a gene that helps cells grow, divide, and repair themselves. When cells have too many copies of this gene, cells -- including cancer cells -- grow faster. Experts think that women with HER2-positive breast cancer have a more aggressive disease and a higher risk of recurrence than those who do not have this type. Causes Over the course of a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Risk factors you cannot change include: • Age and gender -- Your risk of developing breast cancer increases as you get older. The majority of advanced breast cancer cases are found in women over age 50. Women are 100 times more likely to get breast cancer then men. • Family history of breast cancer -- You may also have a higher risk for breast cancer if you have a close relative has had breast, uterine, ovarian, or colon cancer. About 20 - 30% of women with breast cancer have a family history of the disease. • Genes -- Some people have genes that make them more prone to developing breast cancer. The most common gene defects are found in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. These genes normally produce proteins that protect you from cancer. But if a parent passes you a defective gene, you have an increased risk for breast cancer. Women with one of these defects have up to an 80% chance of getting breast cancer sometime during their life. • Menstrual cycle -- Women who get their periods early (before age 12) or went through menopause late (after age 55) have an increased risk for breast cancer. Other risk factors include: • Alcohol use -- Drinking more than 1 - 2 glasses of alcohol a day may increase your risk for breast cancer. • Childbirth -- Women who have never had children or who had them only after age 30 have an increased risk for breast cancer. Being pregnant more than once or becoming pregnant at an early age reduces your risk of breast cancer. • DES - Women who took diethylstilbestrol (DES) to prevent miscarriage may have an increased risk of breast cancer after age 40. This drug was given to the women in the 1940s - 1960s. • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) -- You have a higher risk for breast cancer if you have received hormone replacement therapy for several years or more. Many women take HRT to reduce the symptoms of menopause. • Obesity -- Obesity has been linked to breast cancer, although this link is controversial. The theory is that obese women produce more estrogen, which can fuel the development of breast cancer. • Radiation -- If you received radiation therapy as a child or young adult to treat cancer of the chest area, you have a significantly higher risk for developing breast cancer. The younger you started such radiation, the higher your risk -- especially if the radiation was given when a female was developing breasts.

From Rags to Shopping Bags By Azia De Moreree

Azia Dee Moreree was born in the small town of Joliet, IL. After moving from Joliet to Minneapolis, MN she excelled in her academics and ballet. At the tender age of 11 she joined a trio, Trinique, and began her journey as an R and B artist, although the group had much success in Minneapolis such as opening up for Lil’ Flip and singing the National Anthem at the And1 Mix tape Tour Basketball game, after 7 years together, the group split. Although Azia was on her own at an early age, and went through a lot trials and tribulations, she graduated high school with honors and furthered her education in a secondary program. Now at 22 and nearly done with her AA degree, Azia is branching off into the urban modeling world after being discovered by a photographer in the mall. “I was working at Macy’s at the time… and this local photographer was like you need to be in a video … you’re too cute…” From then on it seems her grind has been relentless. We know we will be seeing much of her in the years to come.

Katrina born in March is magnanimously known, as “Hurrikane” is an American singer, songwriter, model & businesswoman. Born in Massapequa Long Island and raised in Queens NY she enrolled in various performing arts schools and was first exposed to singing as a child in elementary school. She attended the Christian Academy in Brooklyn. She auditioned for their chorus and was made lead soloist. She received about 4 plaques for lead soloist for her commendable work in the chorus. In Junior High school she attended I.S.71 and auditioned to be in the band. There she studied how to play the sax & bass; in band her Band Director also made her lead soloist of the band. She also was in the schools fashion shows. She performed for many of the school’s shows and talent shows. When it was time for Katrina to go to high school she auditioned for Washington Irving High School. She auditioned to be in the chorus & was immediately accepted by a teacher that truly made a difference in her life Ms. Holt. In High School she performed with the chorus the chorus performed 7-8 times a year. Katrina was able to stand out once again when she was selected by her Chorus teacher to perform Bette Midler’s “The Wind Beneath my Wings.” Bette Midler is an American singer, actress and comedienne, also known (by her informal stage name) as The Divine Miss M “The Wind Beneath My Wings" was a famous soundtrack from the movie "Beaches". During her career, she has won four Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award, and has been nominated for two Academy Awards. She is noted as having sold over 100 million records worldwide. Bette Midler also sponsored the schools music program that Katrina was enrolled in. The audience gave Katrina a standing ovation, and Bette personally congratulated and told her how wonderful she did. She also performed at City Hall & earned a certificate for the great performance. By the time, college applications were do she already knew that fashion was her passion and was accepted to The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC known to everyone as F.I.T University. She studied Fashion Merchandising Management for 2 years. She also obtained her Real Estate License and became a certified Realtor for the Long Island Board of Realtors. From this she also went on to become a Property Manager as well as juggling Real Estate. After only being licensed for a month see sold her first Condo. She began pursuing modeling as a hobby but it something about what she exuded and felt with modeling that made her take it more seriously.

EARLY LIFE Katrina grew up in a single parent household & a military at that. Her mother was in the military and so was her father, which is where they met each other. Both her parents are of African American decent family history extending all the way from the south. When Katrina’s mother was 5 months pregnant she found that her father was in fact already married with 3 children (2sons & 1daughter). Never the less determined to keep her daughter close and give her the life she never had she was determined to take care of her daughter on her own. From her mother’s second marriage came her brother. Her mother's relationships and hardships showed and taught her a lot; it made her into the person that she is today determined and very independent. Katrina gets her talent from her mother who can sing as well as her Grandmother who was a dancer and Grandfather whom is very musically inclined and can play just about any instrument as well as read & write music which he taught himself. Katrina grew up listening to Anita Baker, Tina Turner, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson just to name a few.

HURRIKANE: UPCLOSE With modeling and music Katrina loves the thrill of being able to have an alter ego. She feels that with two you can role-play. You can be who ever you want to be in your lyrics or on a shoot. What you feel you can let out. As they say a picture can speak a thousand words & with music you can feel many emotions. Music and modeling teaches her about myself inside and out more than anything. One day she would like to own her own Modeling Agency & also her own Real Estate office. Katrina is down to earth, outgoing charismatic & talented. Katrina’s philosophy on art, music & modeling is inspired by the words of John Denver: "Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, Music proves: We are the same."~ John Denver CHECK HURRIKANE OUT AT: WEBSITE: WWW.HURRIKANEKAT.COM TWITTER: WWW.TWITER.COM/HURRIKANETRINA MYSPACE: WWW.MYSPACE.COM/HURRIKANEKAT EMAIL: HURRICANE.KAT.ENT@GMAIL.COM
