A bridge across Rte. 127 connects the park to the bike path leading to the Ethan Allen Homestead and the Intervale. WATERFRONT PARK & THE BOATHOUSE

In 1988, the City constructed the BURLINGTON COMMUNITY BOATHOUSE, designed by Marcel Beaudin and modeled after the 1887 Lake Champlain Yacht Club (which was located in the same place). At the time, it was the only true waterside public access on the northern waterfront. Construction of Waterfront Park and the Promenade followed in 1991. Waterfront park offers open space to play, take in the lakefront views along the boardwalk and access the Bike Path. The site is also host to many events throughout the year, making it Burlington’s premier outdoor venue.

BATTERY PARK

Battery Park, at the top of Battery Street, is a great place to relax, take in the view and bring the kids to the playground. Built as a military camp during the War of 1812, American gunners, successfully defended Battery Park against an attack by a British squadron in 1813. A decorative cannon in Battery Park commemorates this historic battle. Other noteworthy monuments within the park include a statue of Vermont’s famous civil war General William W. Wells and a red oak sculpture of “Greylock” after a renowned Abenaki Indian chief. Not only does the park offer some of the most spectacular waterfront views, the BAND SHELL, which is home to the Thursday night concert series for six weeks in the summer. The Burlington Concert Band, performs free Sunday Evening Concerts. For rentals and use of Battery Park, call 865-7247.

“A_DOG” SKATEPARK

The new world-class Skatepark opened in 2016. Located north of the Moran Building. There is parking available.

OFF-LEASH DOG AREAS

Dogs are allowed in all city parks but must be leashed at all times. Dogs are prohibited from designated beaches and picnic areas. Owners are always responsible for cleaning up after their pets! Help keep the parks and the lake clean. STARR FARM PARK This facility is located just west of the bike path at Starr Farm Park. Open from April 1 to Sept. 30 from 8A to 8P and from Oct. 1 to March 31 from 8A to 6P or dark, whichever occurs first. Throughout the year on Sundays, the park opens at 11:00A and closes at 6:00P or dark, whichever occurs first. Volunteers are needed to help monitor the sites, remove trash and inform users of park rules. Please call 865-7247 to help with this effort. WATERFRONT/URBAN RESERVE This facility is located north of the new Skatepark. The area is open from sunrise to sunset, year-round.

Bike Path Rehabilitation The 8-mile Burlington Greenway connects our parks and waterfront including North Beach, Leddy Park, the Urban Reserve, Waterfront Park, Perkins Pier, and Oakledge Park. The path is our largest multiuse recreational facility supporting cyclists, runners, walkers and beyond. BPRW has been hard at work this summer with Phase 2 construction. The project stretches from North Beach to the Winooski River. Work will continue through the fall and into the winter. The path remains closed in the northern sections and the detour routes onto North Avenue. The project will rehabilitate the path to the new modern standards, add many new pollinator plants, shrubs and trees, while addressing important drainage issues and street crossings. We’re building you a better Greenway, Burlington… we appreciate your patience! Project updates can be found on our website:

PARKS FOUNDATION OF BURLINGTON Philanthropy, Stewardship & Partnership: for the Love of Our Parks.

The Foundation is a separate entity, independent from the City of Burlington and the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department, formed as a tax-exempt non-profit charity governed by its board of directors. Its purpose is to seek opportunities to enhance parks assets and programs through specific initiatives. It is not designed to fill budgetary shortfalls in the Department’s operating expenses that would normally be the responsibility of the City. The Foundation seeks stewardship and philanthropic opportunities for self-sustaining support, including in-kind contributions that will not impose a burden on the City of Burlington’s Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department’s annual operating budget. The Foundation applies for grants for which government agencies are not eligible. It solicits and accepts planned gifts that provide support for future improvements to our city’s recreational resources. As an entity separate from the City, the Foundation invests and manages endowment funds.

To learn more and to make a tax-deductible donation, please visit: www.parksfoundationburlington.org e-mail info@parksfoundationburlington.org or call Board Chair John Bossange at 802.578.7468. Need a place to grow your own vegetables, flowers and herbs? Sign up to reserve a garden plot. We offer a range of sizes: • Full Plots (approx. 700 sq feet) for $60 • Half-sized plots (250-350 sq ft) for $37 • Quarter plots (100-200 sq ft) for $25 • Kitchen plot (under 90 sq ft) for $15 The seasonal fee includes all the benefits of BACG membership: the BACG eNews, water access, spring and fall site preparation, invitations to garden gatherings, and an opportunity to meet other gardeners in your area. Depending on the weather, plots open for planting in early May and close in mid-October.
